The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR General Discussion Thread - - - - - - - Part 156

(Sigh) Someone on Youtube made another video about how the TDK Trilogy "ruined the modern perception of Batman".

Fans who rag on the trilogy have a really superficial view of what constitutes as a "good Batman movie"
I watched that in good faith, and I made it really far. I personally was not vibing with it, though. I do agree that The Dark Knight Trilogy did warp some people's ideas of what Batman could and should be, though.

But I found most of his observations to be poor reads of the films and it came across as bad faith, in some aspects.

I'm also so tired of any discussion of this series being 'The two good movies and that bad one'.

It is tiring seeing certain websites push this narrative of 2 good when one bad when all critical and audience consensus says there all great and any one could be the best for anybody. I don’t think there really is a weakest just one that comes up last and that’s begins but still an amazing film

I feel even more confident that TDKR was meant to be in two parts and part 1 was gonna end with this:

If it led to a better climax/ending for Bane, I would’ve been all for it.

I also imagine that two parts would’ve fleshed out Bruce’s journey back to Gotham, rather than see him getting back about five minutes after escaping the prison.

The score to this film is my favourite of the trilogy. It's likely my 2nd favourite score for a Batman film, after Batman Returns.

It's so drenched in melancholy with a slight bit of hope.

Aside from that, this is the film that keeps drawing me back to these films. Bruce's story/journey, his depression and his redemption is just so compelling and meaningful, to me.

Rises is the glue that holds these films together. It has the most heart out of the 3. Without this film tying it all together, it wouldn't hold the same meaning.

It's such an unfair bummer how hated this film is.

There's nothing to suggest its hated. No user ratings on any movie website would indicate its extremely disliked or even got a lukewarm reception with audiences. Its just a loud vocal minority that create the illusion of it.

The Big Guy came in yesterday. Wasn't my plan to get it considering the new silicone body, which may or may not break down the road, but it looks too good to pass up and fortunately one store on the other side of Canada still had it for a pretty good price. Considered one of the best HT releases of 2024.

Can't wait to pick up the new Joker in the coming weeks.

Please post a pic of the Joker one when you get it.

You bet! I pre-ordered the non-artisan edition though (sculpted hair) because I don't think the wool hair is worth the $200+ difference.

It’s not really hated as joker has said. It’s even regarded as the 2nd best in the trilogy it’s just the dark knight came before it

I just found out that rises grossed 30 million this year from its re release and its now at 1.1 billion.i think it recovered all the money it would have lost from the shooting

Nice of Cotillard to assume blame. But ultimately, the buck stops with the director

I hope she knows that critics praised her and she was nominated for multiple awards for this film and made multiple best female movie villains lists

Its humble of her to assume blame, but honestly its on Nolan for that one. An actor can do a bad take, but the director should say lets do that again.

It is weird that multiple actors have come out and said they had bad performances in Nolan movies from guy Pearce to gary oldman and Christian bale

When did they say that? And about which movies? I've seen Oldman criticize his own performances in other movies like Harry Potter.

You were right about Gary

People are often prone to looking at themselves and their work in a more critical light than outside perspectives and I think when you're working with people who bring their A game and are highly praised for it, it can add to a mounting sense of pressure that maybe you just weren't on their level.

Yeah reading their comments just sounds like a whole load of self doubt.

Like Pearce thinks he's never worked with Nolan again because he was bad in Memento. There's lots of good actors who gave solid performances in Nolan movies whom Nolan's never worked with again. Liam Neeson, Aaron Eckhart, Hugh Jackman, Matthew McConaughey etc. It doesn't mean you were bad.

I can’t think of any main actor in a Nolan movie who gave a bad performance. Even Katie Holmes I think was fine
