The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR General Discussion Thread - - - - - - - Part 156

I of course wish ledger never died but I am glad we didn’t get joker as the main villain again. If we did I wouldn’t have gotten my favorite villain ever in bane. Now if joker had a small part like the scarecrow bit I’d be happy with that since it wouldn’t change much of tdkr and it would have him back

Also, I don’t think I would have cared for Heath’s Joker without makeup, tied up in Arkham. That’s probably what Nolan would have given us. Not a big role but important and stripped down is my guess.

Heath would be one of the people I’d go back and save if I was granted a few wishes. But there’s something about his exit in TDK that feels like the classic George Constanza “go out on the high note”. You weren’t going to get better than that final laugh, image or the moment it cuts.

True that’s as good a joker exit you could have other than Batman snapping and killing him. I’ve always thought if you could save heath it would be like saving Kurt cobain you’d have to get them psychological help and a support system so they don’t overdose on drugs or try suicide. it would be a Lot more complex than just saving them which is sad

Heath was not suicidal. He just mixed the wrong meds.

Wasn’t he depressed.? I don’t think it was intended as suicide but he seemed to be dealing with something

That’s tragic in a different Way then if it was a complete accident.

He had a blast playing the Joker and I think he was quoted as saying it was the most fun he's ever had. He did have sleeping issues, and I think he averaged 2 hours a night for a bit.

It does seem like anyone who plays joker has a fun time doing it from movies to tv. Maybe a little bit to much in Jared leto case

I'll really never understand why some people hate this movie.

Hans Zimmer's score, Hardy's Bane and some great scenes should atleast make it a good and watchable film.

I think it's flawed but a solid trilogy ending, the best in CBMs and I'd take this by a hair over Civil War, it wasn't going to top TDK and it would be hard to write the story like BB so I’m okay with what we got.

Still watch it a few times a year, and it's still a pretty good film, a bit of patience and it becomes very enjoyable because there's a lot of great scenes

I'd even go a step father and call this a great ending for the Nolan trilogy not just a good one, especially that ending which I still get chills from to this very day. I've never gotten the hate for it either even going back to the IMDB days after if first came out and there was nothing but backlash and toxicity surrounding it.

Its not a perfect film by any means, but it does have some great moments in it like the opening sequence or the sewer fight and one thing I can definitely say about Hardy's Bane is that he had a scary, menacing presence in almost every scene he was in even if his voice did sound a bit ridiculous at times.

Hans Zimmer's score is also as epic as ever and just watching this on tv yesterday I was reminded how just how beautiful the cinematography in this film is, especially those shots of Gotham covered in snow. Nolan made sure the budget was onscreen and it showed and its just refreshing watching a big, blockbuster comic-book/superhero film like this again that doesn't rely heavily on CGI alien armies or skybeams and is more reliant on good old fashioned practical effects and incredible looking set pieces.

I don't think that It was toxic, just some people saw that it wasn't as good as his predecessor.

First two were better tbh, the thing is that this film had a longer plot with more characters (Bruce was in the pit)

It's a solid and great ending, I would rate the movie with a solid 8/10, it has very high highs that made me forget about it's flaws.

I agree that BB and TDK are much better films overall and I can understand if people were dissapointed by it when it first came out, but this movie doesn't deserve to get dragged through the mud nearly as much as it still does today. I'd actually put on par with most of the top tier MCU films including CW, EG and TWS which were all pretty much loved by the critics and the fans and yet this movie just doesn't get that kind of love at all.

Tdkr actually gets loved a lot more than those films except for tdk. Here this guy made a list based on 13 different rating sites around the world.https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwis-umP9tXrAhWMHM0KHbadDsoQFjAAegQIAhAB&url=https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbookmovies/comments/g1abfw/i_made_a_ranking_of_59_live_action_superhero/&usg=AOvVaw3BGKDU_h7R5oEELKJYBrU7
Tdkr averaged out as third of all time

It simply wasn't as good as his predecessors and Inception and the story wasn't as good as those. I'd put it slightly above Civil War and far above EG but TWS is far better, it's the best Marvel film and my 2nd favorite CBM.

yeah, I know but every Rises poll gets a bit divisive, even aganist Batman Returns, TFA is Age of Ultron smh.

I agree that TDKR gets far too much hate. No it's not perfect and BB and TDK are better, but I find TDKR more entertaining than most CBM. It's got plot holes, but it's also got so many memorable things. Bane, in particular, is such a memorable villain. The emotional beats are super emotional too and the pay off works so well. Lots of things about TDKR that I love help me overlook any flaws that it has. I mean, most recent CBM don't even have an opening as intense as TDKR.

Yeah, this.

I’d only put WW, IW, Joker and TWS above TDKR in movies released after 2012.

TDKR also features one of the best movie fights ever. I've heard the criticism that Nolan can't direct action, and while BB had lousy fight scenes which improved tremendously with TDK, the first Bane/Batman fight in the sewer was amazing. Wide angles, continuous framing without quick cuts, no OTT dramatic/intense music, smooth-flowing choreography…just perfect.

That sewer fight is still one of my favorites ever. It's filled with tension which makes it quite clear that Batman is up against someone he can't beat. An incredibly brutal and intense fight

TDKR is better than any MCU or DCEU movie.
