TDK marketing was insane. It wasn't just an excitement for a trailer, you actually had to work for it.

I've never experienced a buzz quite like the TDK marketing. Even on these forums alone it was magic. Like practically everyone, even some of the Mods were getting involved in it. It was epic. Words cannot describe.

I don't think we'll ever experience anything quite like it again with a CBM.

The marketing was perfect buildup to the film. The I Believe In Harvey Dent truck, if I remember correctly, actually came to my local town. The whole thing was pretty much a perfect storm. You couldn't ask for a better build up of hype and excitement for a film and it actually paying off like that. I remember when people were able to decipher the Harvey dent image early to reveal our first look at Ledgers Joker. Was so special.

That whole marketing campaign was what brought me to this site in the first place. I was on the IMDb forums a lot back in the day (RIP sort of) but migrated here because this was where all the clues and games and such were being solved first. It was really a special time, and I think the secret weapon of TDK's box office success.

It was shocking. Nolan/Ledger were so brave, no one was expecting a dark take on Joker like this.

I must admit, after Rises I was Nolan'd out. I loved Begins, I struggled with TDK and I liked Rises. I loved Bale but hated the voice and suit. I wanted something more "comic accurate" in every sense.

After being thoroughly disappointed with the Snyder fare I found myself on youtube watching clip after clip of the trilogy and my god, you really don't know how good something is until it's gone. I still don't love TDK, it's no contrarion rubbish or anything, I can objectively see and agree with all things it gets praised for, I just don't connect with it like I do the other 2, but if you gave me a choice between the bvs warehouse scene or the Prewitt siege, it's prewitt every day of the week, it's pure Batman, it's like something straight out of a comic, that thing I thought I wanted, I already had. Even something like Batman's first night back in TDKR, the bike chase, the lights going out, that score.... just magnificent.

Prewitt scene is so good. Great escalation of stakes and obstacles being thrown at Batman throughout, a great payoff with him figuring out a badass (and non-lethal way) out of a jam. Classic Batman stuff. Love the score during that whole section too. I'd easily take it over the warehouse scene any day.

The perfect Batman moment in the entire trilogy, IMO, and that's a hard choice.

Agreed! Absolutely adore that scene.

I watched TDKR for the first time in years the other night and couldn't help but compare it to what we know of so far regarding the new film coming next year. With The Batman's marketing campaign about to get dialled up a notch as it's release date is fast approaching, I couldn't help but wonder why Nolan opted for Bane as the film's primary antagonist, rather than The Riddler.

TDKR partly deals with the fallout from Harvey Dent's actions in the previous film. Matt Revees seems to be using The Riddler to expose a dark secret that's being kept from the general public of Gotham. I think The Riddler could have easily been used in TDKR to expose the cover up for Dent's crimes, being a more natural fit for TDKR than Bane.

From the looks of it, Paul Dano's Riddler is the closest we'll get to a Nolanverse Riddler.
