The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR General Discussion Thread - - - - - - - Part 156

She always posted photos on instagram related to bat girl. From a statue she got, or just comics and stuff like that. she was a big fan, and it's a shame that she doesn't even get the honor of having the world see what she did with the character,
I do feel bad for her but it’s her second movie and it’s a good lesson about the industry she’s working in. I’m sure she’ll bounce back and she may even get another opportunity to play Babs again.

The silver lining here could be this: maybe the worst thing that could have happened to her career was this movie being released and totally bombing. She doesn't get asked to return to the role, most ppl don't see it, bad reviews, the folks who see it go "eh she was alright. Nothing memorable though". That has an effect on her career. Now let's see the bright side where we fast forward a couple years and let's say she's in a whole new Batgirl theatrical project (either solo or team up). Maybe she's meant to star in a better film under better circumstances. A better first impression. Her career takes off.

Batman and Robin led us to Batman Begins :funny:

Black clouds...and silver linings :)

I’d rather see her as Batgirl for the first time where she’s already active as Batgirl. No flashback scenes of Keaton’s Batman saving Simmons’ Gordon from a gang to establish their friendship (why is that needed? Instead there should have been a scene where they’re just chatting, catching up). Yeah...who cares about spoilers because it will never be released right?

Change it from the stupid crap of “she dressed as Batman at some Halloween party and so now she takes the costume and takes it to the streets” to something like Keaton trained her. Or just ditch Keaton? Just make a Batgirl movie. Or a Black Canary/Batgirl flick with a new villain. I love you Brendan Fraser but maybe your destiny is to play Bullock for Reeves instead!

Of all the L's DC has taken, this feels like it might be the worst yet.

Batman Begins once, which is due in part that i was 12 when it came out, TDK 4 times (and many more with cam rips as i waited for the blu ray haha), and I honestly forgot how many for TDKR. probably 3 or 4.

BB twice, but it was kinda blurry because I worked in a movie theater that summer and I would pop into showings throughout the day and catch bits and pieces of it.

TDK...Eight times. Two of those being more recent re-releases in 2018/2019. Five total in IMAX.

TDKR, four times, with three of those IMAX. Would love to see it again on the big screen some day.

I was 13 when Begins came out so I saw that once.

I was 16 when The Dark Knight came out and saw it four times. Twice in IMAX, and twice in a standard theatre. However, I regret not having a car at that time. I would’ve seen it in IMAX a lot more if I had a vehicle.

When Rises came out I was working at a movie theatre which was part of the same company as our local IMAX. Meaning that I could see movies for free as long as I called ahead. So I think I saw Rises in IMAX 8-10 times. Part of that was because I didn’t want the same feeling of regret that I had with The Dark Knight.

I did fly out to LA in 2018 when they were doing the tenth anniversary IMAX screenings for The Dark Knight and saw it three more times. Then in 2019 I went to the IMAX trilogy marathon.

The Dark Knight and Rises are great showcases for IMAX. If they’re ever playing near me in those formats I’ll try to see it.

I've only seen Batman Begins once in theaters. I'll admit that while I had a good time watching it, my attention that summer was more focused on... girls, booze and bass guitar. :funny:
But the next year I bought the DVD and it really reawakened my love for the character that had been a bit dormant since the early 2000s.

I was then super excited for TDK. Like nothing else before. I saw the movie 5 times in theaters, including 3 times on opening day but I have an explanation for this excess... :D

Finally, for Rises, instinctively I would say 3 times. But actually, I can only remember 2 viewings...
That would make sense as I've always had reservations about this film. However, I did listen to the soundtrack quite a lot, just like the two previous films.

How many times did you guys see each of the trilogy movies in theaters? I saw Begins four times. TDK around eight times. TDKR I believe was around five or six.

Batman Begins: Twice

The Dark Knight: Three times in one day

The Dark Knight Rises: Five times, Three of those on opening Friday, then once the monday after, and then one more time in IMAX.

Stumbled on this a little while ago, wasn't sure if it was worth sharing here but I figure eh what the hell! For anyone interested, these guys analyze movies from a psychological standpoint and break down some of lessons and truths to be found there. One is a licensed therapist and the other one is a filmmaker. It's a bit of a long watch, but I think they are able to nicely articulate some of the reasons these movies resonate so strongly with a lot of people.

Begins- twice (My average when I really like a movie)

TDK- 4 times, which is more times than I've ever seen any movie in theaters ever

TDKR- once.

I remember when this was one of the first fan posters for TDK I saw shortly after Batman Begins came out. back before any casting or knowing that the Joker wouldn't be perma-white. I actually did think we'd get something closer to The Man Who Laughs. This was such a simple manip, but it had gotten me excited for what was to come.

I never saw Begins in theaters. Wasn’t a big movie guy until 2007. That’s when I discovered it in DVD.

TDK 8 times. The whole summer of 08 was me going back to see it over and over.

Rises only once. The mass shooting dampened my hype at the time.

'Batman Begins' - 3 Times in 2005
'The Dark Knight' - 7 Times in 2008
'The Dark Knight Rises' - 4 Times in 2012

I added another viewing for the first two at the midnight-marathon in 2012, though.

Batman Fandom (2008-2022) - "We love and prefer the TDK/TDKR suit!
Me (2008-2022) - "I kinda don't like that one, I prefer the BB suit..."

Me Now - "You know, I really dig the TDK/TDKR suit, at least as much as the BB suit!"
Batman Fandom Now - "We hate TDK/TDKR suit now."

That shooting made that whole summer a blur. I remember seeing TDKR more than once, but the rest of the summer was a complete blur. I don't even remember going into the theater to see the movie, just bits and pieces of how I felt during certain scenes, not even before or after. I feel like that was the mood for lots of people.

I was in the same time zone as the shooting - and my friend, who I was with that night, got a message from her family letting her know what happened and she showed me the message.

It was during the first Bane/Batman fight, near the end of the fight when we found out.

We wondered if we should leave for awhile. We had no way of knowing if it was random or coordinated. You just don't know.

I had already seen the movie. I honestly don’t remember when I heard the news about the shootings. That weekend I guess? Did it happen opening night? I live in Canada and I was 23 years old probably just chalking it up to “ugh America again with their mass shootings. It’ll never stop”. Which btw, here in Montreal we’ve had shootings. My friends were in the middle of a school shooting while it was going down in 2006. I literally saw a friend run as fast as he could down the street on the news that morning. Another friend saw the shooter go up the stairs as he was looking down and got the hell out of there without being seen. So it’s not like there’s no panic around here. But for some reason this one didn’t stop me from seeing the movie. I personally don’t let horrible things like that stop me from living. The shows were packed here too so I guess at the time ppl were just assuming that it was a crazy thing in the states that wouldn’t be duplicated elsewhere.

So I remember my experiences with all three movies very well. Knight’s opening night was the most fun. Begins was the overall better summer experience though since I was 16 going to see it over and over with my buddies with no care in the world.

Yeah, it was opening night that it happened. I remember very clearly, cause my friends and I had just gotten out of the midnight showing, so it was about 3am. I was on a total high from the ending, which basically was the emotional equivalent feeling of a game-winning goal with seconds left on the clock to me. We went to a 24 hour diner to unwind and chat. As we were getting ready to leave the diner one of my friends saw the news on his phone. Totally took the wind out of my sails. It really disturbed me that other fans just like us were horribly murdered on what should've been a happy night of celebration and fun like we were lucky enough to be enjoying. Felt like it could have been any of us. Ended up watching the news coverage until the sun came up. It definitely cast a bit of a pall over the movie for me. The fact that the guy thought of himself as The Joker definitely made it a little too creepy. I thought it was great that Bale went to go visit the hospital in Colorado and meet some of the survivors though. When I saw Zimmer live in concert a few years back (AMAZING, 10/10 recommend if you ever have the chance) he makes a little dedication to the victims of Aurora during the TDKT section of his show.

And wow shauner that's crazy. I try not to let these things stop me from living either, but a mass shooting is definitely one of those things that you pray that not you or anyone you care about ever has to experience.
