The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR General Discussion Thread - - - - - - - Part 156

Do you think Maggie Gyllenhaal would have better than Hathaway (and herself as Rachel) as Catwoman?

Pete Holmes is back with a vengeance with all of these Bat-canned skits. So freaking hilarious!

hahaha, you know, I liked Joker, but this is completely spot on. I do think the film was overall over hyped, despite the fantastic performance from Phoenix. It just doesn't feel like the Joker, but more like Philips wanted to make a film in the vein of tax driver but had to cover it up as a "comic book movie" for it to be made. I still like it, and i love the ending of the film due to the unreliable narrator stuff, but yeah.

ended up picking up actual film cells from Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Rises this past weekend at Rhode Island Comic Con. I'm probably gonna have to get one for The Dark Knight off their website.

Random thought: I kind of wish we got more 'courtroom' scenes if just to get more of Crane. I bet a lot of people have had this thought, but much as I like Scarecrow, I wish we got more of him as Scarecrow. The closest we got was him on the horse and letting out that high pitch scream when he got tasered at the end of Begins! That stuff was great, and it was nice of Nolan to bring Cillian Murphy back for brief bits in Dark Knight and Rises...but if we obviously couldn't get Joker, I would have loved more of Crane!

I still don't get tired of his proclamation of "Death.....by exile!"

The thing with these collector editions is that they unfortunately don't stay forever. I remember I really wanted a similar release for the first Hellboy movie and now I can't find it anywhere outside overpriced Ebay listings. The Dark Knight is already starting to become unavailable in most places and thus more expensive on the places you can actually find it. Maybe they'll make more copies, but there is a big possibility you won't be able to find them later on. I'm exactly like you, I already have the movies and didn't want to spend money on a re-purchase now, but I fast tracked the buy for fear of them being gone soon.

Bumping this discussion and shining the Bat-signal for @OnLeatherWings in case he sees this, cause I'd love some informed opinions.

So in case anyone is interested...the Ultimate Collector's Edition of Rises is on sale at Walmart for $40.

Begins is available too, for $61.

TDK is out of stock everywhere of course...(you were right @Filmfreak and I was a fool to wait)

My thing is I'm a bit OCD (lol), so I'm just wondering if I mixed and matched these from Walmart with some version of TDK that I find on Ebay, would they all match? Those European rating stickers bug me...I know some are removable, but I'm not sure if they all are.

Too bad you missed that. I hope there's a seller somewhere at some point with a decent price so that you can be able to purchase that. It's a very pretty edition.

I still haven't bought the Schumacher films that were released in the same editions, but I only want that because I'm a completionist. It's not that I care about the films much.

Somewhat of an update...

A site called Movies Unlimited has TDK listed as backordered but it still allows you to order it for $73, which is a much better price than you'll currently find on eBay. I'm trying to inquire to make sure that they'll be able to fill the order, but fingers crossed.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger on that Walmart deal for TDKR, so I'm just gonna try and find solid deals on the others to complete the set. TDK is definitely the hardest one to find so once I can secure that one I'll feel better.

Just reporting for anyone here who is also still looking to get this set. It's hard to justify spending over $100 on movies I've already bought 5x over at this point, but it's been gnawing at me knowing I don't own the best versions haha. Especially because I'm trying to consolidate/upgrade my collection across the board.

There's some strong story potential in the 8-year interim that doesn't have to contradict Rises in any way.
Sorry to reply to such an old post but i was rewatching the dark knight trilogy this week and thought the exact same thing. If we can never get a proper sequel to the dark knight rises, what about a Saw X-style midquel set between those 2 movies?

Saw X just did this very successfully IMO, and although the actors obviously looked older, they totally sold it and it worked as a perfect in between chapter. I would kill for another movie with Bale back as batman and this might be a cool way of doing it. They could pick a more low stakes villain like black mask or hugo strange and show batman working in the shadows to fit with Blake’s “the last confirmed sighting of the batman” line. I know it will probably never happen but i would love to see something else in the nolan verse someday. Maybe batman beyond in another 10-20 years!

According to the novelization of the Dark Knight Rises Heath Ledger Joker is still alive but he is locked up in Arkham or Blackgate how Bale Batman can retire in peace knowing this? and about John Blake he becomes the new Batman or Nightwing maybe? or is he just exploring the Bat Cave? the ending of the movie makes me believe that he becomes the successor of Bale Batman

Well, maybe unlike the comics, this version of Arkham may actually be properly secure.
And the ending is up for the viewer’s interpretation. There’s no definitive answer. Blake could become Nightwing or Batman or something entirely different. We will never know the “true” answer because there isn’t one.

Not in a million years. Hathaway could have played Rachel, but Gyllenhaal could never pull off Catwoman. She just doesn’t fit that bill. Not that she isn’t a superb actress, but she would feel incredibly wrong for the part.

Marion Cotillard on the other hand…. Part of me does still wish that happened (she was a popular fan cast for Selina back in the day), but I am happy Hathaway got the part. She fit perfectly in that world. She nailed it. I wish we got to see more of her.

If Ledger hadn't died, he absolutely would have been back for the third Nolan Batman movie. His death changed the course of that series because Nolan didn't want to recast The Joker.

Honestly, I think The Dark Knight gave us everything we needed to see from Ledger's Joker. Once you have him as the main villain in one movie, There's no real need to bring him back afterwards.

He definitely would not have been the main villain again and the movie would most likely still have been a conclusion with Nolan at the helm so I've never really seen the point of speculation.

This is just straight up beautiful

I just impulse bought the crap out of this! Thanks for posting man, I always miss these limited run sales and they always sell out fast. Been waiting to put something TDKT related on my wall cause I wanted it to be something special. This hits the spot!

No problem! I have posters for BB, TDK, and TDKR framed on my wall. Well TDKR one i had to take down but I'll have it back up soon. I'm tempted to buy this but I'm unsure if I should pull the trigger or not.

Threw in the 4k of Rises last night on my new OLED...

F*** me wow. It’s just stunning. I‘m on a big “support physical media” kick right now, so I also tried an A/B comparison with Rises on HBO Max vs the disc. I wanted to see how wide the gap in quality was on a display that could really show it. I actually laughed out loud when I saw it, it was THAT stark of a difference. It’s not that the stream looked ‘bad’. It just wasn’t even close to capturing the HDR pop, especially with the IMAX shots.

Arkham Asylum was in Batman Begins Scarecrow and Ra's al Ghul threw Arkham into chaos and freed all the captives is not really that secure

The Joker killed Rachel how is Bruce in peace with the Joker being alive? in my headcanon the Joker died due to natural causes before the events of the Dark Knight Rises and Bruce knew about this

Natural causes? Joker was a young man.

Bruce isn't the revenge seeking angry young man he was pre Batman training in Begins. If Bale's Bruce wanted Joker dead he would have let him fall to his death at the end of TDK.

Well, things could have easily changed after the events of Begins. Pretty simple explanation, really. Tightened security after such a large mishap.

i dont know stuff happens Jack Nicholson Joker died Heath Ledger Joker could also died Bale Batman he only spent one year active as Batman and had too many injuries as we see in the Dark Knight Rises maybe the same happen with Ledger Joker i dont know i want to give a little more realism in my headcanon about the fate of the Joker in the Nolanverse
