The Xbox One - Part 3

So are we, in the US, not getting a free game?

Nope. MS is adding these incentives for the EU market because:
A) EU is paying more for the console than the US is.
B) Microsoft isn't doing as well in the EU market.

Every X1 in the USA is going to sell out, they have no reason to throw in free **** here.

^ What he said!

So...what are they going to do in Asia?

The whole thing is free with 25 games plus a PS4. And still noone's going to buy it!

I wouldn't be surprised if they skipped the entire Japanese market altogether. Japan absolutely rejected the Xbox even as Microsoft made some serious attempts to court the market. And with the features that the Xbox One is implementing, it just really wouldn't work in Japan considering how embarrassingly low tech Japanese culture is.

Yeah it did terribly being eventually pulled from retailers despite a commendable effort on JRPGs. Maybe the costs don't justify it. Can you expand on the low tech culture thing?

Not to mention their Otaku culture is just a hard nut to crack. XBOX brand is just seen as lame and redundant. They need to pump up Microsoft in general as a brand to buy. If Apple can make it big, so can Microsoft.

Well we can't say they didn't try. This was their most recent attempt during the summer .

Xbox 360 Consoles Are Way Cheaper In Japan. August 7, 2013 . 12:04am

Microsoft is having a summer sale where you can pick up an Xbox 360 with a 250 GB hard drive for 19,800 yen. That’s about $204, roughly the same price as a 4 GB console in North America.

The Xbox 360 had a decent run in Japan, but console sales and the number of titles for Japan have steadily declined. So, if you’ve been thinking about importing an Xbox 360 to play some shoot ‘em ups like Caladrius or want to play the Japan-only Kinect dancing game Love Tore now’s a good time to pick up an Xbox 360.

guess they were testing the water with the 360 to see if things have changed

My respect for them has elevated somewhat...

I'm going to try playing a dual-gen release like AC4 on both 360 & XB1 at the same time on 2 TVs so I can make a direct comparison.

Someone just uploaded a video of him using the Xbox One at home...

Yeah, that kid is going to get his Microsoft employee parent in so much trouble. Hope it was worth it.

was that kid even using Kinect with the X1??

it was hard to tell if he had Kinect hooked up, but it looked like he was using the controller to navigate......

You can turn Kinect off, you don't need it to navigate.

I know that.

but I was just curious if that kid even had a Kinect hooked up.

cuz if he didn't, it would be kind of ironic considering how much MS has been pushing Kinect.

You still need Kinect plugged in in order for the X1 to work, as far as I know they haven't changed that stance. Having Kinect plugged in and not used is probably how the vast majority of people will use their X1.

Japan is a culture that thinks that things like fax machines are still relevant in today's day and age, businesses and schools are filled with computers that look like they came from the 1990's, and many don't like e-mails. The best way to characterize Japan is that it's essentially a country with a high-tech image thanks to things like the bullet train and companies like Panasonic and Sony, but a low tech reality thanks to their aging population that doesn't really like to branch out into the modern world.

I thought MS recently confirmed that you do NOT need Kinect to be plugged in for the X1 to work??

It was in one of those IGN Q+A articles.

Very interesting. Had no idea.

Most likely cause most of us view them as more accepting of tech (and a few other things) than most of the world. And in some ways that is the case that may be why. But there's a lot we don't always see unless you're there for an extended time.

Maybe someone can answer this, but can someone explain how the snap feature will work with XB1? Like can i be in the ESPN app watching MNF, then snap directly to a game then go back, with out having to close the app and game?

I can't confirm but that's what it looks like from the dashboard leak. You should be able to minimise the app or the game and be in the dashboard to choose a new application. And then minimise again and revert to what you were doing. That was without Kinect and I'd imagine the voice controls on Kinect would make the change more direct and even smoother.
