The Xbox One - Part 3

MS announcing all those policies and then backing down so soon goes down as the dumbest gaming related news of the year. Like why even try and go forward with that, only to do a complete turn round so fast? And to come across so arrogant as they took a firm stance ultimately for no reason. It was all a waste and they did so much damage to their reputation and brand that it will surely hurt them in the coming months. Hopefully for them people will forget and let it be a thing of the past

They should definitely have made this about turn before E3. They released that massive explanation of how everything would work but that was the time to change it. What they showed at E3 was fine & Sony really didn't show that much exlusive content so they could have come out with a positive reception. These issues and the way they've been handled have taken away the hype for the console. Sony definitely won this game of chess and reacted in the best way to the backlash they were seeing unlike Microsoft who wanted to bulldoze their way through it.

wow this thing by it's self. the cost the cost.

Xbox One Kinect for Windows SDK applications live now, cost $400

Windows Developers anxious to get their code onto Microsoft's next-gen Kinect can apply for a software development kit before its official public release in 2014. Microsoft is accepting applications now through July 31 at 9AM PT, and early kits cost $400. The program begins in November.

Early kits include an alpha sensor and the final sensor at launch, private support from the Kinect for Windows engineering team, access to the early SDK and any future updates, and private access to all API.

Microsoft will alert successful applicants in August.

and yes I'm aware it's for an SDK.

No headset means everyone will be able to hear everything going on in the room however.

We'll still have to pay but it's something. Especially for those that have expensive 3rd party headsets.

Good. I have the Astro A40 that the guy was asking about. It was wrong that 3rd party headsets wouldn't work.

I did not have a choice that my laptop, tablet and phone came with a camera. Or an NFC feature (which is potentially way more invasive). I didn't get to choose that these devices came with headphones even though I didn't want them. The only choices you usually get are how big of a drive you get. Why would a console be any different. When was it? The original kinect was an accessory now part of the console. Nobody says anything when all phones now have 2 cameras.

There was absolutely no demand for Kinect, whatsoever. Nobody wanted it, thats why they're pushing it with the console. Its Don Mattrick's baby and he'll be damned if there isn't one in every Xbox users home. Besides, you don't have to use your phone camera, or laptop camera at all. It basically is an accesory that is built into the system. The Kinect is integrated with the Xbox, its constantly listening to you even when its on and you have to use it for going through the menu.

My only point is that I don't see where the entitlement comes from. You get this nowhere else. Don't want a camera? You have a WiiU and a PS4 that don't. You don't have to buy this. It's almost a waste of time to yell at them to give you options when you have alternatives. Is this wrong? Does it mean that I wish there wasn't choices? No, but it's like ANY product.
So you want us to all just sit down and shut up? We're not allowed to give Microsoft feedback? Thats basically what the internet has been doing the entire time. I didn't want Xbox to fail, thats why it bothers me so much that they're doing this. I will criticize the console all I want, and I will not just talk the talk but I will walk the walk and give money to Microsoft's competitor so that they know they cannot just screw us over and expect to get away with it. Mandatory kinect is just the tip of the iceberg however, there are many problems that a Day one patch won't permanently fix.

Unfortunately that might be too little too late for some smaller developers. Several of them got burned over the last few years because of that policy.

If they'd make their game properly then they wouldn't have to update it

Every game gets updated, from AAA to indie games. That's the reality we live in now. Testing can only go so far. Having 50 people hammering at your game is nothing compared to thousands.

^ Sometimes it's unavoidable, especially when Microsoft forces the release dates on these developers. Them nor their indie publishers can't choose.

Thats a very shortsighted and inaccurate statement. Not every patch is about "fixing" a game. Developers do also release patches to add additional content. Burnout Paradise for example released several patches early on which added bikes, new races and game modes. MK released patches which gave free costumes whenever a DLC character dropped. And of course all MP games releases patches which help balance gameplay.

Besides what is wrong with patching a game up? Before this gen, if a game went out with issues, that was it and you were screwed. I appreciate now the fact that developers can change and fix things post-release. Its overall better for the gamer

Gonna trade in my ipod touch for a Ryse bundle some time this weekend. Should knock it down to $400. Then trading in the 360 after I beat GTA5 in September. My body is ready.

I find comments sections on gaming sites to be a complete waste of time nowadays (apart from the jokes which can at times be quite good). There doesn't seem to be anyone neutral who is capable of giving a balanced comment (thought the multi-console owners might weigh in). Whatever the content of the news...one side sees the good side only & the other the bad only every time. For eg a story like this where MS used to have a super-crap policy on charging a fortune for patches that has now been ditched. There's an obvious good and bad side to the story to a non-biased person but you know what response you are going to get just by looking at that user's last few comments before. Just seems like a propaganda war.

People love to choose sides and be "right"
I mean I don't want to be wrong in terms of the console I'm playing on to die prematurely like happened with my Dreamcast but it seems everyone is acting like they are part of a wartime propaganda machine where they filter only the parts of an article that support their cause and are incapable of giving praise to the other side even when they do obviously good things and equally incapable of criticising their chosen machine.

It's so evident how good the existence of both Sony & Microsoft have been for consumers forcing each to rein themselves in when their practises start getting less favourable for the consumer. The PS3 wouldn't have needed to drop from its exorbitant price without the 360 and the PS4 wouldn't have been $399 without the XB1. The XB1 would have kept all the online requirements, anti-used game policies and region locks were it not for the PS4. Campaign to get one killed off and you'll see all the negative policies and price points on one console in the gen after this.

Great points Ice. I'm sure people see me as a Microsoft loyalist/apologist but I'm just choosing the console that appeals to my tastes. I think people are gonna love their PS4s, it's just not for me. I'm glad Sony is in the game to push MS, that's for sure.

Damn, got $230 in store credit for my ipod touch. Way more than I expected. Ryse completely paid for and 160 towards the console. Sweet deal.

Ryse looks terrible gameplay wise. Choose a better game like Titanfall. :oldrazz:

Gamestop. And I'm not ready to judge a whole game based on 7 minutes of footage. I'm excited for it. Definitely gonna get Titanfall next spring though.
