The Xbox One - Part 9

^ I wouldn't be surprised if VR and hologram technology merge into one device.

right now, though, it's still not the console for me.

Its the only console for you, based on what you talk about are important features, the media features nonsense and the whole all in one thing. You just don't seem to want to accept it for whatever reason. I mean im not saying you have to have an Xbox, its just funny as hell when you talk about all the features that you like in a console, which the Xbox has then say, but its not the console for me. Haha thats pretty funny.

Microsoft killing it again. I'm glad that Spencer is the one who is handling almost everything about Xbox/Windows, he knows what we want.

I'm still surprised by how badly the suits managed to handle the X1 launch. These are top jobs with huge salaries, you'd think the execs if they didn't have an understanding of their market and consumer base would do what it takes till they knew it better than any of us. I've never been more confident with Xbox than with Spencer at the helm. Once you have his level of understanding and you get a good enough budget the obstacles to success are far fewer.

which is the cruel irony.........lol.

if I didn't already have the PS4, and I was looking to get my first new gen console, I'd probably lean towards the X1, cuz it does have more of the media features that I want and I do like the future MS "ecosystem."

That being said, hearing a game like Street Fighter V being PS4 exclusive would give me reason to lean towards the PS4. And right now, there is no equivalent "big name" franchise I want to play that's X1 exclusive.

and since I already have a PS4, there's less of a need to have both systems ( as you have pointed out before, too, lol ).

and right now, the biggest issue with the X1 for me is the long install times. it might not sound like a big deal, but when you have to wait close to 4 hours for a game like WWE 2K15 to be "ready to play," and when it installs on the PS4 and is ready to play in 2-4 minutes ( just like pretty much every other PS4 game ), that's a HUGE DIFFERENCE.

DAI was more reasonable at around 15 minutes before being ready to play. but, still, that's about 5 times longer than the PS4 install time. and since there seemed to be no uniformity for game install times ( unlike the PS4 ), who knows how long other games will take to install.....

And that was probably the single biggest reason why I opted to just return my noisy X1 instead of exchanging it for another one. Why keep a "less efficient" machine when I already have a "more efficient" one?

It's like, you're comparing two printing machines. One machine has more robust features and more functionality, but it takes forever to print out a document. The other machine has less features, but it prints out that document lightning fast. If, at the end of the day, you mainly use the machine to print stuff, then you're going to go with the one that can print faster, even if it lacks the other features.

That was my reasoning. May not make sense to others, but it made sense to me.......lol.

So, the main issue they have to address before I even can consider the X1 again is to fix and shorten those install times. Until I hear that "hurdle" is cleared, then the X1 is not something I want right now.

and, of course, if the PS4 ever does add more robust media features, then I'd have even less need to get an X1.

Hah that might be the first time Iv heard u mention the gaming side of these macHines. The install times are one of the reasons I went digital. I can access my games earlier than I ever have been able to as I'm now able to play my games the minute they go on sale.

hah. yeah, for as much as I talked about media features, media features, media features, once I got the X1 and started playing games on it like DAI, I found myself rarely even touching the media features.......lol.

so, that helped me realize my priority was on the gaming side moreso the media features.

and right now, the PS4 wins in that category for me in terms of gaming "power" and "efficiency" and games I want to play.

You know, I keep hearing about these godawful Xbone install times, but I have yet to encounter anything close to what you describe. Now, in truth, I haven't bought a lot of games, but I feel like this must've been patched or something at some point.

Yea wwe 2k15 is one of the very few physical games I have and that game didn't take 4 hours to instsll, not even remotely close.

The only time Iv had an install or download force me to say "whoa, this is taking way too long" was the Master Chief collection which was like a 60 GB install while Live was going through some issues.

well, you're lucky then.............:o

I only had experience with 2 games, DAI and WWE 2K15, so those are the only 2 that I can comment on firsthand.

as I said, DAI was reasonable at around 15 minutes. If every game had install times like that, I could live with that, even if it's longer than the PS4's 2-4 minutes.

That's what I wanted to test when I installed WWE 2K15. I stuck it in around 11:00 AM before heading off to have Thanksgiving lunch. I sat there for the first 15 minutes, to see if I could start playing like DAI. No such luck.

Went off to lunch, then did some Thanksgiving house cleaning. Check backed periodically, the game was still installing but didn't say ready to play or let me start.

By the time I was done cleaning, it had been installing for close to 3 1/2 hours. Still wouldn't let me play. At around 98% installed, I FINALLY got the signal "ready to play."

so, I started the game, and when I went to the roster select screen, only 6 wrestlers or so were available. the rest were all greyed out.

I had to wait another 5 minutes or so for it to fully install, and then the whole game and initial roster were accessible.

so, by that time, it was probably close to 4 hours from the time I stuck the disc in. needless to say, I was not too pleased with that experience.

When I got WWE 2K15 for the PS4, I stuck it in to install. and like every other PS4 game that I've tried, it took about 2-4 minutes before it was ready to play. and when I went to the roster screen, the whole initial roster was accessible unlike what it was on the X1.

that's........a big difference in experience.

whether or not other X1 games would have taken that long, who knows? but that's what happened to me.

really?? :csad:

if that's the case, then that just goes to my point. that there doesn't seem to be "uniformity" or consistency amongst install times for different games or even different users.

for whatever reason, something on my end caused my WWE 2K15 to take forever to install, whereas yours installed much faster.

Conflicting reports

^yeah, and it's kind of disheartening to hear. :(

so if it wasn't the game, it was something on my end on my machine?? :(

Pat, do you remember roughly how long it took you to install WWE 2K15??

One thing that bugs me with the Xone is that there's still jaggies (aliasing) in the game that I've played, like in Inquisition and Unity. After the whole "Next Gen Power" thing, I was expecting these issues to be fixed with the new hardware.

Besides that, the Xbox One is being a great console for me, just some minor things that bothers me.

That's on the developer. Stuff like that will become more rare once these devs learn the machines

hey, thanks man!! I really appreciate that!!

I'm interested to see what you report back.

Ok so from initial boot up of the disc to the "Ready to Play" notification was 2 minutes and 27 seconds.

Full install was 18 minutes 44 seconds. Granted that was without the 4 GB update, but just from start to finish, 18 min with the game being ready to "play" in 2

thanks for doing this, Pat!!

wow!! just......wow!! that's a HUGE difference from what I experienced. :csad: :cmad:

if that had been my experience, I would have just exchanged my noisy X1 for another one. I'd still own an X1 right now. :csad:

so, CLEARLY, something caused my install to drag to 4 hours. I guess it was the update??

but, again, thanks for letting me know about this.

Yea I'm not sure man. The update at launch wasn't as big as this most recent update I didn't think, but I can't remember.

well. something went wrong with my install......lol.

how did you install it without the update?

I've also heard some people say they disconnect from the internet before installing to shorten the time. did you have to do that?

I just declined the update. I havent played the game since the new patch so when I uninstalled it then reinstalled the game it asked me for the update but I declined for the time being and let the game install.

Nah, I just put the disc in and installed it. Didn't disconnect or anything.

ah, ok. thanks.

I'll remember to decline updates during the initial install should I ever venture into X1 territory again........lol.

thanks, again, Pat!!
