The Xbox One

right now, I only have the budget for 1. maybe 2, if/when I trade in my PS4. The 2nd console will probably be the NX.

If I get the Slim now, I won't be getting the Neo. I may still get the NX next year. Then in 2 or 3 years or so, I'll trade in the Slim and PS4 for the Scorpio.

so at most, only 2 consoles - MS and Nintendo or Sony and Nintendo. but not all 3 and not both MS and Sony.

quick question and I mean no offense, but are you OCD with other forms of tech you get or is it just gaming?

OCD??

I don't buy much tech anyways. I try to be budget conscious on whatever I buy.

I also like to analyze and weigh the pros and cons........and I supposed that extends to other areas too.......lol.

These consoles aren't cheap and I can't afford to buy all of them.

OCD really isn't the right term, but I get what Havok is saying. I really don't understand a lot of your decision with your consoles, and it seems like you analyses things to an extreme degree a lot. You have a very back and forth back and forth back and forth thing going on a lot.

yeah I probably didnt use the right term but you explained it. Most people when they buy something big, they tend to be set with that decision but you do alot of back and forth after the fact. Thats not a criticism on you. I just wanted to know if its like that with other tech, like I dont know, phone, TV, etc...?

It's like the scene in Tangled, when Rapunzel goes back and forth on whether it was a good idea to leave her tower.

that's me..........:o :oldrazz:

You need to do a diagram for this. :woot:

I get what Havok was saying. You do have a...unique logic process to these things haha. But now with so many options coming up I think others will find it much more complicated than usual too. At the moment it's standard with 3 current leading consoles from the 3 big guns. But with hearing about the NX all this time we were prepared for one of them to release mid-gen. Now with these early unprecedented updates from the other 2 (2 staggered ones in the case of Xbox) plus the prospect of whatever comes after a few years later (actual new gen consoles if they happen) it's a tougher time to be certain, especially for those who are open to buying from all the companies and can't afford everything.

Now I want to see the scene, I like that film lol.

XboxLabs seems cool, I may consider a navy blue or metallic green controller with my name or gamer tag on it.

Tangled is awesome. Probably my 2nd fav Disney film after Beauty and the Beast. And Rapunzel is right up there with Belle as my fav princess.

and yeah, this console gen is going to get quite messy and muddled with the mid gen upgrades, VR, etc.

Like, is Scorpio considered a new generation ( it certainly sounds powerful enough )? What gen is NX part of?

Will there still be a PS5 or Xbox 2?

Will the concept of generation go away entirely?

y'know, I wonder if at some point they will extend that concept to the console itself or to other accessories.

You want a flaming fuchsia colored console adorned with your pet cat on it?? You go it!!

Iv designed no less than 7 versions. I don't know which one to preorder. Think I'ma go with a light grey/neon green combo.

Lol and I'm the one who has been saying that all along. I don't know how many times you've talked about getting/selling a particular console just for you to end up right back at the exact same spot. Iv known about every console decision you've ever made before you've made it. A year or so ago after your umpteenth back and forth with the X1, I knew you'd be here, at this moment pondering your future with Xbox.

It's true. All of it. You were right. You were right about me. :o :oldrazz:

though to be fair, I had no idea we would be talking about a mid cycle console upgrade from both Sony and MS this soon.

I stuck to my decision to not buy the X1 again in its current form. So.....there's that at least. :cwink:

Debating if I wanna get the slim. I have a 4K tv but it's not HDR. Definitely getting the Scorpio and it's made me reconsider upgrading to a 4K capable PC.

I think I'll wait it out for the Scorpio now rather than going for Slim or Neo. If you're looking to upgrade your pc the GTX 1080 card is looking really good and much better value than the Titan was. I will probably upgrade at the same time I get Scorpio and I hope they are really on top of all this ecosystem stuff they are working on by then.

So, wouldn't 4K games have an even bigger install size than the current games?

Scorpio better have a replaceable/upgradeable hdd, and it better come with 2TB by default.

If they do full on 4k games then yeah much bigger. Putting on your own hard drive would be much better.

ah, thanks.

yeah, they do need to let us replace and upgrade the hdd in the Scorpio.

and with the bigger installs for 4K games, I don't think they can go lower than 1TB as the default hdd. And if the S can do 2TB at $400, I think the Scorpio can at least match that.

or maybe the Scorpio will do what the Elite did and go for a 1TB hybrid drive.

With the Scorpio being so much more powerful, its not going to be the same price as the S. I bet it starts at $400 for the base 500gb model but even thats a bit low.

so, here's a critical article about the S and Scorpio reveal and MS' overall "muddled" message about the future of the Xbox One.

I agree with some of the points, and I think it also extends somewhat to the PS4 Neo ( which in some ways is even less clear now since they haven't even officially revealed the Neo an its specs/purpose ).

It goes back to what Iceman and I were discussing a few posts above about how this point in the generational cycle is particularly confusing to consumers.

Which makes it even more difficult for someone like me who loves to overanalyze and internally debate this stuff.........:o

Despite my prior bad experiences with the X1, I'm looking to get back into the Xbox family. I want to get back into the Xbox family, as I think I "align" more with the MS/Xbox brand. And the S is a very attractive option ( literally ). But then.......Scorpio.

As a PS4 owner, I'm happy with my PS4 ( though not enthused ). I haven't had any major problems with it. And I wasn't looking to upgrade anytime soon. But then..........Neo.

Both MS and Sony are wading into uncharted territory, and we will have to see what that means for all of us as gamers and as consumers.

Storage space will become exponentially more of an issue every time they move up a standard like this. Luckily for me I don't play quite as many different games as I did in the 360 days. I have an 8TB drive for X1 just in case though. ;)

I didn't mean Scorpio match the $400 price of the S.

I meant, the Scorpio match the S in terms coming with a 2TB hdd ( at a premium price to the S ).

and with the premium focus of Scorpio, I just think 500gb is out of the question - especially with 4K games. Even with the games now, 500gb is pitifully small.

$400 would be a super-competitive price for what we're getting. That is surely the absolute minimum.

I don't think it's muddled for those who are going for Scorpio at launch. But more confusing for those who are thinking of getting the S but also might be looking for the Scorpio later. For me it's become very clear and I don't think I'll be getting S or Neo or NX any more (although will be trying to persuade 2 of my PS4 friends to upgrade to Neo. Wish I had a hardcore Nintendo friend who lived close :woot:).

definitely. MS would be losing money on the console but they would probably need to take a hit if they want it to adopt fast, especially since they are so far behind the PS4

thats primarily an issue though for those who download their games. Hopefully the new specs allow the install/delete process from disc to be faster, like the PS4 so space is less of an issue. I think they might stick to having at least 2 SKUs so they are able to sell the thing at a lower price point. At the very least a 1tb will be minimum but Im not sure we'll see a sole model for 2tb
