I will be going Scorpio and pc only after the next year or so. That Play Anywhere thing is huge for me.

I wonder when the S launches if MS and/or the retailers do those promos where they include a free game or a gift card.

that would certainly sweeten the deal.

Even if not at launch it won't be long before it happens.

2tb Xbox One S
Gears of War 4 Ultimate Edition (with season pass)
Special themed console and controllers

$449. Outside of this, the S comes out in August. Expect deals a few months later around Black Friday and beyond

yeah, we'll have to see what promos, if any, are available when the base white S launches next month.

I don't have interest in the GOW S bundle.....too much red......lol.

Still hoping Sony releases something official about the Neo, and Nintendo with the NX.

I kind of would like to get some concrete info about those consoles before deciding to get the S.

So August 2nd is just around the corner, not long at all. Look forward to hearing about how the S is from some of you (or anywhere else).

August 2nd. nice!!

but, I'm also seeing rumors that the Neo might be launching in October.

I was at Best Buy the other day and took a look at the 4K HDR tvs. Now, perhaps they were optimized for the showroom, but the displays really popped with color and clarity. I was impressed.

Without owning a 4K tv, I won't be able to get the full benefit of the S ( HDR, 4K video, 4K upscaling, etc. ).

Some leaked info about the Neo popped up the other day, and in those slides, Sony did make a point that even non 4K tv owners could see performance benefits from the Neo ( better framerates, etc. ). I'm assuming the Scorpio will offer that as well with its extra power.

So, even if I don't own a 4K tv, I'll be able to get some performance benefit from the Neo and Scorpio it seems.

The S, however, doesn't offer that power upgrade that I as a non 4K tv owner can benefit from. I would really love to see reviews and spec analysis for the S to find out just how much more powerful it is over the base X1, if any.

Otherwise, with the Neo possibly coming out in October, the NX out next March, and the Scorpio out Holiday 2017, the S is quickly going to be outclassed power wise.

So, I'm less inclined to rush out and get the S at this point. I'll either go all in and get the Neo and a 4K tv this fall, or else wait for the more powerful Scorpio next year. I also want to play the new Zelda on the NX.

So, I'm not sure where the S will fit in.

It's not in the same league as the others. It will probably win only on price. If you're happy to pay the launch price for any of the others they will be better. The S is the budget version which also provides up to date media possibilities like 4k video. I'd probably get it if I didn't already own a 4k blu-ray player and wasn't also getting the Scorpio later. 2 4k players is enough for now lol.

yeah.

that's why, the more I think about it practically, the harder it is to justify getting the S. It would have been nice if it had specs equivalent to the Neo. But if it did, MS would have been touting that.

So, as it stands now, I just have a hard time justifying buying the S. I'd rather wait and spend more money for consoles that are more powerful and more "future proof."

It's a shame, though, cuz I really do love the look and design of the S. The S should have been the console MS launched back in 2013. Or else, they should have released it last year or the beginning of this year. Or, they should have given the S a spec bump like the Neo.

If I don't trade in my PS4 for the Neo this year, then I can get at least one more good year out of it before trading it for the Scorpio next year.

Indeed, depending on the Neo's final specs and actual release date, I may well just wait and save up for the Scorpio.

So I have my Xbox One S pre ordered through Bestbuy.

How do I go about getting the free Kinect adapter ?

Also, because I have never tried.

Is it possible to have both my Xbox's functional. Meaning Could I put my old one up stairs and log onto my profile and have access to my games and such (as long as the slim is not logged into my profile in the living room). Basically can I run more than one Xbox in my house.

I have mine pre ordered at game stop and I like that I can make payments on it before it hits. I sold my 500 gig fat One and getting the 1TB S model. I have 160 paid off with 190 more to go I am sure I will have it paid off before the system hits next month.

I figured out the Kinect adaptor question (register old xbox, Kinect and new Xbox and I can apply for the adaptor on Microsoft's website)

Still need info on my other question though

Yes, this is exactly what I do now. The 2nd box is just so I don't have to move boxes twice every day. Of course you need all your games you want to play downloaded to both boxes and can only be signed into one of them at a time.

Excellent, thank you for the reply.

I read that X1 sales are dropping due to these S & Scorpio announcements/release.
Excellent, thank you for the reply.
No prob.

so, when do you think we will be getting our first hands-on reviews/impressions and actual spec analysis of the S?

think it will happen before August 2nd??

500 GB and 1 TB S bundles go on sale August 23.

a 1TB Madden 17 bundle and a 500 GB Halo (MCC + Halo 5) bundle.

http://news.xbox.com/2016/07/26/xbox-one-s-options-this-august/

It's a shame the 2 TB bundle doesn't come with a game. but I'd rather pay for the extra internal storage than a game I can buy on its own ( plus I don't like digital games ).

edit: looks like a 1 TB Halo bundle will also be available but only at select Microsoft stores and at microsoftstore.com.

so, has anyone here downloaded the latest Summer update for the X1 ( the one with Cortana )?

I hear it includes improvements to the Store.

can you now purchase 360 titles and 360 Avatar items using the MS money in your account?

or does it still say you need a credit card?

Still can't do that for some reason and that sucks but the update is still pretty cool

^ ah. that sucks to hear. :(

hopefully they fix that soon now that the big update is out.

anyways, the reviews and analysis of the S are starting to come int.

This site has an indepth look at the technical improvements of the S, with links to a review as well.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2016-inside-xbox-one-s-tech-interview

It looks like there ARE slight improvements to the GPU and eSRAM!

GPU clock increase from 853MHz to 914 MHz.

Compute Performance increase from 1.31TF to 1.4TF.

eSRAM bandwidth 204 GB/s to 219 GB/s.

and it looks like the extra power is available to all titles, not just HDR enabled titles. Mainly helps with keeping steadier framerates.

it does seem like the S a tad louder than the original X1, but it uses less power.

So are you getting it or still debating between this and the scorpio?

Still debating. Very tempted to get the S now, though, and wait several years for the Scorpio.

However, Neo is looming, possibly in releasing in the next few months, as well as the PS4 firmware 4.0 update. So that throws a wrench in things.

But the S is very tempting. And it's nice to hear that it does offer a slight boost in performance. It's just that, it would have been nice if it had received a Neo level boost in power. THAT would have instantly sealed the deal for me. But alas that's not the case.
