The Xbox One

Take this all with a grain of salt.

Over the weekend it was rumored that we would be seeing a reveal for Project Scorpio and Forza 7 at some point in the next week. Prior to that rumor, another two rumors were making rounds, one suggesting the games Microsoft would be showing off for Scorpio and another detailing that the upcoming console was already in the hands of developers.
Working off of these rumors, another rumor has made its way to the light. The rumor has detailed that this week's reveal will come from Eurogamer's Digital Foundry on Thursday and will be the console's specifications. It will be interesting to see if there's a rundown of how the console is performing, especially considering that a power and performance enhancing update will be hitting Project Scorpio's developer kit in June.
A run down of the console's performance in its current state would seem pretty negligible since it doesn't have all the power.
Another rumor is claiming that Project Scorpio's final name is Xbox One X. Next to the Xbox One S, the 'X' fits into the family of Xbox One devices, however, it could be slightly confusing for some consumers ('X' and 'S' sound pretty similar, especially over the phone!).
Without confirmation, take all of this with a ton of salt - it's a rumor after all.

X......as in X for "Xtreme"??

I could live with it.

If that's true it's not bad but I don't know why they don't just keep the provisional names if they are already cool. What was wrong with Scorpio? Same as the PS4 Pro which name I really don't like while PS4K was fine and (automatically implied that the console was a mid-gen versioon between the 4 and 5 and was capable of 4k).

Anyway really looking forward to getting info on this thing in a couple of days.

It's really hard to give a **** about this when they've already confirmed there won't be any exclusives for this upgrade.

Scorpio always felt more like a codename instead of an actual model name, imo.

so, I kind of don't want it to be called Scorpio officially.

if X1 Elite weren't already used, that would have been perfect.

though, personally, I think they should just call it "Xbox." just go back to that, drop the "One."

A good codename though. They should keep good codenames if the replacement isn't better. When the final name is better go ahead and change it. Maybe they can call the next gen Xbox the Scorpio instead, although the name is probably just wasted for good now.

I'm not sure if there will be a next gen Xbox, frankly.

I think we are seeing the start of the end of console generations as we know it.

there will be another Xbox, but it might just be an iterative version of this new console, instead of a clean leap to another generation of consoles as in the past.

I don't mind either way if they can make things work. Would be nice if it means that all future games (on all platforms) were backward compatible.

yeah. total BC would be nice for all games on all Xbox platforms ( original Xbox, 360, X1 ).

in fact, it would be nice if all 360 games were BC on the X1.

there are still some that I'd like to see that they haven't added yet.

but it should be all 360 games available for BC.

hopefully, maybe Scorpio or X1 X or whatever it's called can make that possible.

I think we might get that with whatever is planned after the end of the reign of the current consoles, whether that is considered an new generation or not. They are putting a lot into making these old 360 games BC and I don't think they'd bother if it was an initiative that would die out after a few years.

agreed.

it's a shame the PS4 lacks BC ( aside from PS Now ). there are tons of classic PS1 and PS2 games, as well as some PS3 games, that I'd like to play again.

it would be nice if one system could play all the games from the family of consoles.

MS is at least making the effort.

Yeah, well Sony definitely should try as the PS1 and PS2 are much more of a treasure trove (to me at least) than the original Xbox.

I think they might just prefer to keep PS Now for stuff like this though.

yeah. like I've been wanting to play the classic FF games again.

it would be nice if they made PS1 classic games in the PS Store playable on PS4.

they released digital FF 7 for the PS4, I don't see why they can't do the same for the other PS1 FF games, or for other digital PS1 classic games in general.

otherwise, I'd have to buy a PS3 if I want to play PS1 and PS3 games, but then the PS3 doesn't play PS2 games.......lol.

I want one system to play all the games!!

I think many gamers do, and I don't know about others but I'd be ok with rebuying all my favourites digitally (one more time, no more than that) so there's some money to be made too.

^ yeah, I'd prefer physical BC.

but digital would be fine, too, especially if that's the most convenient option to buy an older game ( some are rare or very hard to find ).

I think it would be easier to implement too. Plus it would give them more of an incentive to do it if digital so they could make some cash out of it.

The Forza stream special guest was Tanner Foust.... nothing was announced. (Though I won a Foust signed poster to go up next to the Ken Block signed poster I won a few months back via the stream)

kind of the theme of today with EPN.tv's question of the day

Great question from Nate Slayer22! Does Victor Lucas prefer Physical or Digital Media? Vic breaks it down

one thing I hope we get confirmed this Thursday is whether Scorpio will include a 4K blu-ray player.

Would be very weird if it didn't. Haha, the mid-mid-gen S would be the only console to have it.

^^ yeah, it would be weird.......lol.

a good Forbes article about what the Scorpio needs to get right to succeed.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/insert...otix&partner=yahootix&yptr=yahoo#1f5b6a26208c

I don't always agree with Forbes articles about gaming, but for the most part, I agree with this one.

MS doesn't have very much room for error.

It's like gymnastics or figure skating at the Olympics, and you are going into the final round or rotation.

Sony is sitting pretty in 1st place and is the clear favorite for gold.

MS is in a somewhat distant second - with gold just seemingly out of reach.

Nintendo is in 3rd, but a potential darkhorse. while it may not win gold, it has a shot of challenging MS for 2nd place.

For MS to have a shot at retaking the lead and winning gold, it needs to have a perfect routine. It needs to be on point on everything, stick every landing, no fumbles or stumbles. It needs to bring out the "big moves" and execute them flawlessly. And yes, Sony and/or Nintendo need to make some stumbles in their routines.

If all those align, as the article says, then MS has a shot of reclaiming the lead. but, it is a very narrow path to victory with very little margin for error.
