I wasn't really expecting a lot of depth and complexity from Zod in this movie anyway. And in fact some of the best superhero, scifi, and action movie villains have been the most straightforwardly evil-- Vader, Joker, Khan, Hans Gruber from Die Hard, the original Zod...

Shannon's Zod certainly seems scary and menacing enough from the trailers, which is more than enough for me.

HAHA.. sorry about that.. my english isn't very good.. i can ramble on and not make much sense...

I am not sure if i even know how to say what i want to say here because it's a complex thing...

Ok, I'll try again... maybe with an example..

From what we know, MOS is about mainly Superman, his self discovery, what people think of him when he's discovered, where he came from, etc.. now, that really just translate to a 'documentary'...

In order for people to 'care', you need to insert 'love'... which is human's greatest desire... so, for example, instead of all that 'origin', or concentrating on so many different characters, the entire story, if written in such a way as a love story between Lois and Clark, and there's a danger to their relationship... and everything else is just the backdrop (the cgi, the special effects, the backstory, etc), then that would capture the heart of all audiences... that's why Cameron's movies (thought have simple scripts) appeal to so many across the board.. becuase all of them are actually, if you break them down, just a love story... from Terminator to Titanic to Avatar...

So, here's some examples..

Instead of a scene of young clark being bullied, why not a young clark being picked on, and a younger Lois coming to his rescue.. and throughout his journey into adulthood, the two lives are inter-mingled, but neither one of them know how important they'll be to each other.. maybe, start from a scene where the kents brought a 1.5 year old clark shopping, and there was a robbery, and baby clark foil the robbery, and inadvertently saved a baby lois.. etc.. all the way thru to his adulthood... that way, when they actually meet later in life, they'll have a whole 'destiny, love' believable love angle... etc...
No thanks... It's an origin story about Kal-El becoming Superman. I do not want to watch a superman origin movie to see love drama on how Louse and Superman are destine to love each other. I rather that be explore more in the sequel.

I gotta strongly disagree with you. I find the idea that love not only needs to be in the movie but the major plot point is... well... flawed. Plenty of great films don't have any "love" in them and are still great. As for MoS, the love story should be secondary; the development of Clark to Superman is far more important that the love story between Lois and Supes.

Great film, yes... but the biggest blockbuster, no.. no one will say avatar is a 'great film', most would agree it's only 'average nad simple', yet, see how many people are irristably drawn to it???

I am pointing out the difference between appealing to everyone and appealing to a segment of the market.. when you combine 'love' and 'action', you have 'greatness'...

Anyways, to each his own...

LaineyGossip review is a positive one just in case anyone was wondering, lol. says Henry Cavill as Superman is a PERFECT Cast :)
you can look it up if you are interested. I didn't want to read it just in case or post it.

lol ^ That would be super funny, The bashing he would receive from that would be fun to watch.

I would place my bet on Rex Reed, I don't think he has given a positive review for a Nolan movie yet (I know MoS is Snyder, but the Nolan name is also prominent)

I don't think Rex Reed has ever given a positive review to a comic-book movie with the exception of Superman: The Movie. And that was probably because he was in it. :oldrazz:

I should really be impressed by Shannon in this since I've only really seen him in Let's Go To Prison (What a delightful force of nature, serendipity). Not exactly a role that required Oscar caliber acting.

For me, it was "Take Shelter" his acting in that is what sold me for him being chosen as Zod.

Hey guys, I'm seeing the movie tonight! I'll let you guys know what I think. Although keep in mind, my first impressions tonight will be coming from Compi716 the Superman fan, the purist, the man who lives and breaths comicbooks. I'll only be able to formulate a serious critical analysis after I see MOS for the second time Thursday night.

Hold on to your butts.

btw: Love between a man/women is just one thing.. that's just an example... in Aliens, it's about Ripley and the Little Girl... that's powerful too... there needs to be powerful connection between people that tugs at the heartstring... it could be brothers, father and son, family, etc...

And my main point is 'Snyder is not great with that sort of thing'...
I completely agree with you.

I enjoy action and superhero movies very much. I have a good time watching them. However, if the sentimental angle is lacking, I will most probably forget all about them soon after.
Now, if the love story within is good, then I get this sense of 'magic' that makes it special in my mind, and I often find myself watching the movie over and over again.

As for MOS, we know the action is good, which means I will like it. The only thing that's left for me to know is whether the romantic aspect of the movie is good enough for me to love it.

By the way, I love your idea of the whole 'love and destiny' angle you described :yay: (I'm corny that way :woot:)

Any review listed on RT has a likely chance of containing spoilers. The first review does have spoilers so proceed with caution unless you've already seen the film or don't care to be spoiled :)

Well in that case I should be blown away, because the only movie I've seen Shannon in was Pearl Harbour, and he was in that for about 5 mins lol

Good God. :funny:

I remember the absolute s**t show that was last year's Dark Knight Rises RottenTomatoes vigil.

People were going absolutely (forgive me) bats**t that it was probably going to sit at an 87%. . .when an 87% is actually quite exceptional of a score.
