Again to mention, since no one saw before...

I went to see the film and it was just wow. Seriousness, I don't see the rason to fear. I think many of these reviewers of course are entitled to their opinions but many of them have really pretty silly reasons. Others have more legitimate reasons which can be debated but go into spoiler territory.

That said, the film is supreme to me... Exactly what I wanted Singer to do with Superman Returns. This film has balls, like it or not, they bring Superman to be a kick ass warrior protector of Earth. It's just awesome to see him in that journey into that role. Yes are there hiccups? Yes could Aranofsky done a better job arguably? Probably but Snyder has easily delivered his best film and personally my favorite Superman film. The visuals and story to me are just amazing.
got standing ovation?
:D

Watchmen 64% on RT
300 60% on RT

And I thought those movies were amazing. Critics are just playah hating on Snyder.

I was just about to point this out. Zack Snyder hasn't been popular with critics. I'm sorry but 300 and Watchmen were practically near perfect translations from the comic versions. If you didn't like the movie versions, especially 300, then I am assuming you didn't read the graphic novel versions and in that case you wouldn't like those either. It's going to be sad if it gets a lower score compared to that steaming pile called Superman Returns...it can't be worse than that film.

Are there any hardcore Superman fans here that have seen this film and felt they screwed up adapting the character?

Wait till you see the movie. Those points can be directly correlated to specific scenes. I can easily visualize what they are referring to and it's not a Donner movie.

Point taken. :)

Man of Steel is just another Superman movie with a real estate scheme as its central conflict. Doesn't get much more unoriginal than that.
Well, not really. The
terraforming
subplot is just that, a subplot. The grand plot was about the
preservation of the culture and people of Krypton
.

Here's just a snippet.

- There are some things that Superman simply does not do – “leave innocents in peril” being a pretty big one – and that conflicts with Snyder’s love of carnage. Though the carnage happens largely off-screen, the body count in Man Of Steel is in the tens of thousands; worse, there are stretches where Superman seems indifferent to the deaths of people around him.

- Where is Superman? The one I've known and loved for more than 50 years is nowhere to be found, replaced by a plastic, uncharismatic Superdude, who'd make a great fashion model, but is a horrid Man of Steel.

- Superman keeps neglecting to ask people how they are. When he does ask that kind of question, it's as characteristic a Superman moment as seeing him punch Zod through several city blocks of skyscrapers. He doesn't ask Lois how she's healing after he cauterizes her wound with heat vision. He doesn't even check to see if his mother has any broken ribs.

It's this kind of writing which screams of people thinking they know what Superman is suppose to be, maybe not consciously, but for a character like Superman who's been in the public eye for 75 years it's hard not to have a general idea of what he's 'suppose' to be. If they didn't like the film that's fine, if they're not liking it because it's not 'their' Superman, then frankly they're no better than whiny fanboys.

I haven't seen movie, but these are legitimate writing flaws...perhaps a better director could fix..

I can't see how this would be worse than Superman Returns....a man abandons his pregnant girlfriend without saying good bye? Superman of all people....how can Poni_boy find that credible, relatable?

Whoa, just wanna apologize for inadvertently posting spoilers. Totally unintentionally on my part. People quoting that post of mine please edit it in spoiler tags.

The thing that gets me is the ones that are stuck with in the S:TM zone. That movie came out 35 years ago. It would be like someone going into Batman Begins complaining that it didn't have the same Wham! Bam! Kapow! of the Adam West Batman. Don't get me wrong, I'm going to be my own judge on this but it's crap like this that ticks me off. Let Reeve go...

Some really can't and explains why SR was liked much more by critics than MOS. It was just essentially a retelling of S:TM with the main actor trying to do an impersonation of Reeve and complete with using exact dialogue and lines. I'm just glad Snyder and Co. stopped the ballwashing of the Donner movies and had the guts to move on and give us a new interpretation.

Damn....all that off the top of your head....

Yeah. After giving it some thought I'd say treatment of supporting characters, music choices and pacing are also better in the other two films.

Spoilers much?

Nothing is funnier...or sadder....than someone complaining that someone else posted a spoiler by quoting it for even more people to see.

Yeah. A sci-fi real estate scheme.

Sorry C.Lee, wasn't intentional, didn't read the quotes properly.

I gave it a 6.5/10 the first time I watched MOS, because I went in thinking it would have a complex, mature, and rich in character development story and I did not get that.

I gave it an 8/10 after the 2nd viewing because I went in knowing it's more of a popcorn action adventure movie.

I went in expecting something like TDK (a crime drama with a lot of themes and depth mixed with some cool superhero action) and got the Avengers (action adventure movie with some dramatic moments), 2 movies I gave 9/10 for different reasons.

The reason I gave MOS only 8/10 is because some of the dramatic scenes were awkward and too melodramatic. It also lacked wit, charm, and a sense of humor.

But if we're talking about action adventure science fiction spectacle, it's the biggest one Ive seen in my life. It's so re-watchable because of how epic and awesome the action is.

Go to this movie expecting Death of Superman or Superman Earth One
instead of the cleverer ones like All Star Superman, For all Seasons, or even Alan Moore's stuff.

Well in SR's case, Superman didn't know that she was pregnant, something that people keep forgetting about whenever they bash the film about it.

But yeah, one thing's for sure, I'm definitely debating if I should even see the film in theaters and just wait to see the film on DVD or Netflix since most of the reviewers here (most of whom I agree with on a lot of levels) are having a lot of issues with the film.

He knew Lois was pregnant  first time I've heard that

I was just about to say the same thing. I seem to recall he was pretty surprised to learn he was a father.

That scene when he speaks to Jason while he's asleep is one of my favorite parts of the film.

Still, shouldn't you tell someone that you would be gone for potentially a very long time that you have been in an intimate relationship with? It is Superman of all people, someone that is held to an even higher standard. Or was he just sleeping with her and didn't care about her feelings?

Very helpful comment. I was getting an Earth One vibe from what I've seen.

After watching a review video, heres something I have a problem with that is in the movie.

Clark lets his father go back to get the family dog during a tornado and what is worse is jonathan tells him to back off when his about to die? I cannot believe clark will let his father die so that he can keep his secret a secret. This is something I believe clark will never do

can't wait for tonite!!! yes, bring it on!!!

stop the SR discussion. if critics love it and hate MOS. let it be.

Superman man hit it and quit it. Then he made a rooftop booty call when he got back in town.

He knew Lois was pregnant  first time I've heard that

whether he knew or not for certainty...seriously....can you really excuse a grown man for missing out on first 5 years of his son's life?

wouldn't a grown man at least confront his girlfriend before abandoning her...what he did is abandonment. He couldn't tell her because she'll say no and make him feel bad...this is the Superman, Man of Steel?

Especially after Superman II where he promised the President he'll always be around? But this is a pseudo-sequel to that movie?

Didn't he leave suddenly, looking for remnants of Krypton? It wasn't that he didn't care about her, he was looking for home. He never left to intentionally hurt her.
