^ Well, TA had a warm and humorous quality to it. I'm not sure about MOS. Looks pretty straight-laced to me.
Lots of reviews saying its not fun. Wtf does that mean? Was TDK "fun"?
We're not far removed from TDKR and regardless of whatever issues it had it was a success among the critics. I don't think it's about the mood in itself, it's how it works within a given movie.Yeah don't get it, it seems that lighthearted superhero movies are more appreciated now btw The Avengers, Iron Man 3. That's what I love about all the trailers, footage, it looks serious, dark, and hopeful too in a way.
Reasonably high rewatchability for sure. I found it to be a lot of fun and engaging, especially in the second half. The tone I would say is much closer to the Marvel movies than to Nolan's Batman films, but with some of the gravity and the seriousness of said Nolan films.
I find the criticism of the "transformey" action a bit strange. Didn't all of these critics love The Avengers? The last 40 minutes or so were quite transformey to me.

Not to put words in your mouth or anything but it sounds like a somber early half akin to a BATMAN BEGINS and a snappier AVENGERS (sans the witty banter) like home stretch. Is that at all close?
There were a lot of preconceptions about TASM as well, same thing happening here. It should have come first![]()
Yeah, I'd say that's pretty accurate. The mixture of Begins and Avengers tones is slightly more evenly spread out than that, but overall, you hit the nail on the head.

I wonder what the reception would have been like if this had come out in December as first planned...

It kind of makes you wonder if MOS would have fared better with the critics at least if it had come out in 2006 as opposed to SR instead, since what SR had working for it (despite the flaws in that film as well), is that it was the first superman film in 20 years and it was channeling a lot of the elements from the beloved Donner film that people had adored at first. Not to mention, we didn't have as many groundbreaking Comic book films released before then as we do now.
Probably WORSE. If critics aren't ready for a heavy Superman now, what makes you think they'll accept one several years ago?
