Sometimes I wonder, with all these CBM's how would they be recieved if they weren't adapted from comic books? and critics just went in without their own preconceptions of how each character should be? Would the higher ones be rated lower? some of the lowers ones be rated higher? It's an interesting thought.

You know, i'm starting to get less and less worried the more I read, because I think the reasons critics don't like this film may very well be the reasons I am going to love it.

I mean, one of the things I love the most about Superman and the DC universe in general, is that you have completely over the top level of threats, huge action, huge super powers etc... combined with deep mythologies, serious stories and complicated moral characters. It's not making light of the genre, being 'kiddie' with it as though that's all comics can be.

I don't want a Superman film that's more 'fun' like Avengers.

I don't want a Superman film that's more 'grounded' like TDK.

I want something that is, from the sounds of things, exactly what we've got.

That's my feeling/hope.

As long as I feel like it isn't cold and emotionless when I go out of the theater, I'll agree.

To me I think the problem with this movie was how much hype was around it. There are few movies that have lived up to as much hype as MOS was getting. I think most people will leave the theaters being entertained. Yet I don't think people are going to be leaving the theater like they did after they saw TDK. The reviews just means people need to lower their exceptions a little and make then more realistic.

Back to 61 :)

As for the hype, the great tv spots and Trailer 2+3 did NO favors whatsover :word:

A thousand times this.

I've lowered my expectations accordingly, and hopefully I'll enjoy it at least. I'm just not expecting it to me a mind blowing movie in it's own right anymore, like I was when trailer 3 hit.

I love the SuperCafe. Especially when Supes said to the Avengers, "I would be jealous if I weren't all of you combined." :woot:

"If I could'nt fly, shoot lazers, catch missles, smash through buildings, wear red and blue..." They're all just swimming in his wake baby!

Trailer 3's the best Superhero short of all time :D

If Loki and the Chitauri showed in Metropolis, Superman would be like, "It took a whole team of heroes to beat you. You gotta be ****in' kidding. It'll take me all of 2 seconds to kick your ***** arses off my ****in' planet."

From the latest review:

Much of this review is pretty harsh, and it's because Superman is an icon and there's a lot to tear apart in a film that doesn't get it perfectly right.

Sounds about right.

Yep it doesn't help that Chris Nolan's name was bandied around this film so much, you'd think we'd be getting the next TDK, but when TASM was in production...half the people doomed that film from the start, so it felt like the people who hated it were just validated in what they thought, and the people who liked it were just surprised it wasn't a disaster. This film was definitely a victim of it's own hype as far as critics go.

This is what I'm thinking also. If I get anymore excited in anticipation of seeing it tomorrow I'll catch fire! I care what the average GA member or CBM fan thinks a lot more than the more notable reviewers. In many cases they are just not into this kind of film, so it's not reasonable for us to think they'll give it a high score. It would be nice though if they did reviews based on objectivity rather than subjectivity, eg. "Will the fans/GA like this?" It can still be a good/great film for it's intended audience even if it's not the reviewers cup of tea.

WILL SOMEONE WHO HAS SEEN THIS MOVIE TALK ME OFF THE LEDGE???

But seriously, I am still super hyped for this movie. I think it will be the exact movie I wanted, but I am less thrilled about how my wife will like it (she isn't a big sci-fi/action fan, but loved Nolan's Batman movies). My early hope was that this would be a game changing Superman and everyone would love it, but it seems I was a bit roped in by the hype. I can't wait to see this thing tomorrow, but I am dreading my wife's reaction...maybe I should go by myself...LOL.

Then he gets tricked and enslaved, so he can return to his earliest origins as a villain. ;)

If my wife doesn't like it, it's because I won't stop taking about the film. She likes the genre, but she literally said to me, "I don't know if ai want to see it anymore. You've been such an annoying fanboy that you'll be all that I think about it when I watch it.
