We are lucky "Man of Steel" was shown in Manila on 12 June 2013 ahead of the other countries. Super like it! The best film about superheroes, the best comic movie of all time, so far. Watch it again this weekend. Thanks to Director Zack Snyder, his wife producer Debbie, producer Chris Nolan, screenwriter David Goyer. Please do write, produce and direct more Man of Steel, and Justice League... bravo!
I'm warning people here. This is a NON-Spoiler review.
However I got flamed out the ying yang the other day for asking a Superman shaving question. That being said my non-spoiler review is in spoiler tags for the pureists.
If you have to quote it to respond please make sure you put it in spoiler tags as well.

Come to think of it I'm not suprised about the 60% if you look at Synder and Goyer (sole screenplay) record. There a lot of fans in this board don't understand the difference story and screenplay. A lot fans thought Nolan wrote the film but thats not the case because the film is being credited GOYER AS THE SOLE SCREENPLAY WRITER. So thats means the dialog plot/character devlopment and struture are goyers responibility not Nolans (he was fully focused on TDKR being the director).
Lets look at goyers screenplay record on RT without Nolan co-writing (which is much much more important than just being involved with story).
ghost rider 2 - 17%
The invisible- 21%
The unborn - 11%
Jumper- 16%
Blade trinity- 26%
Blade 2 - 59%
Zigzag - 44%
Dark city - 74%
Blade - 55%
The puppet master - 26%
Wow no suprise were lucky MOS being 59% IMOH would have been better if the film been release next year so that WB can wait for Nolan to finish so then he can concentrate on the screenplay and do some rewrites . Is WB afraid they're going to lose the rights to superman ?
Now lets look at syndes record on RT.
Sucker punch - 23%
Legend of the guardians - 60%
Watchmen - 64%
300 - 60%
Dawn of the dead - 75%
I was shocked people were expecting MOS to be at the 90% some even said this will be better than dark knight when the all the evidence point to the contrary.
I think it's the matter of taste at this point. Atleast in '89 Batman-Batman Returns with Keaton, the Dark messages were still there that left people unpleasant, especially the weirdness and darkness of B'Returns. The DKTrilogly still fell in the same realm as Batman to most. Still dark, but that's BATMAN.
Most fans think Reeve when they think Superman and they're in for a HELLUVA treat to see a more edgier take on the character. I believe that to be a difference and why the BO will show a more young crowd jumping on board with MOS in the world of computer graphics and CGI. It's a Superman for a modern-era. This is what makes Superman the King Daddy.
Doesn't Peter Travers love everything...?

Christ, man! Why don't you go make a movie yourself and do better?! Who the hell are you to say these things? Critics sit in their armchair and judge others who create art. They create nothing. They're human wastes of space who couldn't make a movie half as good as the worst director in Hollywood! 99% of them are pretentious, faux-intellectuals who are entirely out of touch with the taste of actual people. Yet they feel they have the right to throw around words like "hack." Really, Rex Reed? What movies have YOU directed? As a filmmaker, I'm insulted!
Sorry. Just found this review offensive as an artist.
More positive to lighten up this forum...

Shut it down!![]()
I'll never understand how goyer not only maintains his status in Hollywood, but consistently elevates it. I've always been a vocal critic of his mediocrity.
Makes sense.Rex Reed's main claim to fame in recent years was getting caught shoplifting at Tower Records in New York. He's been past his prime since the early eighties. His reviews are a cry for attention, that's why he makes them so outrageous.

What makes you think that? A lot of people say this but never give reasons for why this is so.Well, yes. Snyder is great with visuals but no so much about the rest.
Oh, no!I actually saw a screening of MOS on Tuesday night and feel like the critics aren't being fair. They are actually giving this movie more leeway because it is Superman. If this was a lesser character with less history in the mainstream it would be more harshly criticized. As you can tell I was sorely disappointed. This wasn't the the Superman I thought we were going to get, just a steroid induced version of it. No character development and tons of action maketh not a good comic book movie. It's transferring the collective pages of that characters history and translating it to screen in a respectable manner that creates something worth watching. Nolan and Whedon succeeded in both regards. Though TA and TDKR have their faults, they're head and shoulders above this. MOS would be more comparable to say Green Lantern, the first HULK and Ghostrider (more style over substance). Whomever did the casting, great job! Whoever did the editing, my god!
Here's to hoping Goyer isn't busy on a JLA script.
