I know. He was really looking forward to it too.![]()
Where can I listen or see his thoughts?
59% on RT. I just hope wom will get more positive critics and we can get this movie in the fresh column like it deserves
A user RT % in the low 80's is thoroughly unimpressive. Lost of mediocre movies end up with that, and for a movie like this its sort of the bottom of the barrel. A CinemaScore below a B or a RT user score in the 70's would signify a total disaster for a tentpole superhero film like MoS. Stop grasping. It a sign of desperation.
Anyway, the movie will likely make a ton of money, and will probably satisfy every boy under the age of 15 - they will make it a classic, regardless of the various issues with the movie. Despite all my misgivings, im still planning to see this tomorrow, as are tens of millions of other people. Sequel virtually guaranteed.
And despite the announcement that Snyder would return for the sequel, that is DEFINITELY subject to change. Same with Goyer.
OK, saw it last night. I'm pretty tired and having to make it through work today, but here are my basic thoughts. Ultimately, it works, and reintroduces the characters and they can move forward. However the movie is severely flawed by sloppy editing, bad directing, and dialogue that at times is embarrassingly bad, and tedious action scenes that go on and on.
What's sad is that there are elements of this story that absolutely work perfectly. The casting is excellent (aside from Michael Shannon which I will speak about later), but the great acting and casting is offset by a director who didn't know what he was doing and Goyer who's dialogue is just terrible.
This is probably coming off as overly negative. If you're a Superman fan, you'll like the film, this is at least good groundwork for the next one, even if to some it might be a letdown. This is not Green Lantern bad, or Fantastic Four bad, but it's not as good as it could have been, and just very sloppy.
I have a couple of major problems with spoilery things Superman does. I'll get into that later, I blame this on the poor writing. Let me just put it this way, how does Goyer get away with Batman refusing to run down Joker on the Bat pod, when he's gunning down innocent people left and rightperhaps Nolan had more of a leash on Goyer than Snyder had.but it's OK for Superman to break Zod's neck to protect innocent people?
Like I say this is probably sounding overly negative. If it is, it's only because within the failed execution might have been one of the best Superhero movies of all time. It's sort of like watching your favorite football team throw for 500 yds, and run for 200 and fail to get the ball in the endzone.
For the good. I liked Cavil's performance. I'll be more curious what he'll do in the next one, the way they set things up at the end. Amy Adams was good but underutilized IMO. Kevin Costner is back to the old Kevin Costner of the 80's. You know where he was actually charming and a good actor? Pre-Waterworld and The Postman, and bad accent Robin Hood. Faora was awesome, and IMO it's too bad she wasn't the main villain. I found her much more intriguing than Zod. And Russel Crowe, did great justice to Jor-EL.
Now for my big gripe. Sorry but Michael Shannon playing Zod with a Chicago accent, just didn't work. This was a total miscast IMO. There are scenes where I just feel he's not in the same movie as everyone else. sorry I just didn't care for his interpretation of Zod. I think a lot of the critics gripes might be around this.
Minor gripe. The Kryptonian armor effects and such didn't work. The helmets looked like something out of G.I Joe the rise of cobra, and I just didn't find any of the effects very compelling. I think rather than have Superman's costume be the underarmor if that was the actual battle suit, the way that it is in the new 52.
I'm not going to give the movie a rating at this point, I feel I need to see it again where I'm watching it more for enjoyment than sitting there trying to analyze what the critics were or weren't seeing. But I'll end with this, woud I recommend this to someone else? If they're a comic book fan, or comic book movie fan? yes But for the general audience, I'm not sure what their reaction would be. This movie lacked a lot of humor IMO.
Batman knew thats what the Joker would want him to do. So he didn't let Joker get his way. BATMAN was fine with letting Bane die and he had no problems not saving Ra's.
HAS EVERYONE FORGOTTEN WHAT NON-SPOILER MEANS!? Tag or conceal the dramatic plot points!

I tagged the one thing that I thought was spoilery. I tried to be as generic as possible, if there's something else you think was spoilery, I'd be glad to mark it, not trying to spoil the movie.
The Phantasm and S3p3rman DIDN'T, though![]()
