TMOS Reviews Thread - Non Spoiler Review and Discussion - Part 7

For me this is a solid 10/10 film, the first film I'd give that rating since Looper.

Astounded that geeks / fans here are nonplussed.

To be honest, I think some started digging a hole of negativity and spouting as to why this movie is going to fail, (financially it is of to a pretty good start) and now they just can't stop digging. Obviously there are some that genuinely don't or won't like it, but there is also a contingent (and some of those are likely trolls) that aren't happy unless they are tearing something down. Just my two cents. Oh, and I'll be watching it again in 1 hour!

My 3rd time in 2hrs!:word:

Damn, that's one backhanded sentence.

:funny:

I think Snyder was the right director. I don't think Goyer was the right writer, but he's a good ideas man. He needs another hand to help him out. He needs to do the ideas and let someone else write the script.

And Snyder needs to get better at telling his stories within his time constraints. I wonder what was cut that would've enhanced the story, or even fix a few of the problems.

Agreed. I think Snyder was a great choice. He is a very visual director and I've always felt Superman is a very visual character. Snyder just needs someone to rope him in.

Agreed. For the sequel, if we hopefully get one, Goyer should either just write the story or be a consultant. Hire someone else to write the screenplay.

i hope to God this happens.

I dont think Goyer is a bad writer though. I mean i liked the script for BB, but here idk what happened to him here

i was fighting back tears a couple of times ( when i cry, i don't like anyone to be around xD) even heard a couple of dudes crying.

The more I think about the more I'm surprised that WB/Nolan gave Goyer such freedom in terms of the script, when history has showed us that couldn't possibly be a good idea.

Just got back and I must say that amid the negative critic reviews, my expectations were pretty low. But the movie was great. Cavill was excellent as Supes. The ONLY time I sorta rolled my eyes was when kid Clark was in the closet at school and ma was talking to him. Otherwise I think the story, action, everything was fantastic. 7-8/10 for me.

Yeah I'd maintain that Cavill was great, bar the cringey "nooooooo!" moments. Wouldn't blame him on that though, even the best of actors would have trouble conveying such ropey parts of the script.

Cavill was great no doubt about that. Really glad after all these years that he got his chance to shine

Aye, read an interview with him during the week, it's actually ridiculous the amount of near misses he's had.

I'm just disappointed that its not a masterpiece that I was hoping for.

Here's how it ranks in the top 10 superhero movies

1. Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy
2. The Avengers
3. Spider-Man 1 and 2
4. The Watchmen
5. X-men 1 and 2
6. 1978 Superman and 1989 Batman
7. Ironman
8. Thor
9. Man of Steel
10. Captain America

Well my mom saw it before me :ninja:, I'm going tonight. She thought it was good but LOTS of fighting and action. :hehe:

Me too. Though
Pa Kent's demise was one of the worst parts of the film
Most of it was very good, and the weaker elements can be built upon for a sequel.

I just saw MOS again and it is even better the second time. IDK but the first time the beginning was irritating, but this time everything just seemed to flow better. I also saw it in 2D yesterday and 3D today so that may have had something to do with it. After a second viewing I am upping my score from an 8.8/10 to a 9.5/10. :woot:

Man of Steel: Rotten Tomatoes Editor Shocked At Low Critic Rating

By: Russ Burlingame on June 14, 2013

We’ve talked a lot the last few days about the disparity between Man of Steel‘s incredible word-of-mouth, its strong audience appeal and the fairly mediocre rating it scores among critics on the popular review-aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes.

Apparently nobody was caught more off-guard by that last part than Rotten Tomatoes Senior Editor Gray Drake, who appeared on Fox Business News and called the Superman reboot “definitely the film to see, because finally Superman is back and he’s going to do big business.”

Asked why the freshness scale score was so low for that film, Drake admitted, “As much as I love and respect our critics at Rotten Tomatoes, I’ve got to say I am shocked. Listen, the movie’s not perfect but…I just cannot fathom it. It was a good movie, you guys.”

Cue the how much did WB pay him to say that herpy derp comments. I may have been slightly disappointed, but its absolutely no where near where the RT has it.

I feel like Goyer's dialog tends to be unrealistic and a bit ham-fisted. I actually didn't mind it for MOS, but I think the sequels could benefit from more subtle writing.

Just came back from the film. From the bad reviews here, RT, and elsewhere, to the issues of pacing and and writing of Goyer, and directing of Snyder with the complaint of too much action, I went to the film so nervous. I was ready to find the faults. I was ready to rate this movie a 7.

I watched a really great movie today. It felt refreshing. I felt I was taken to another side of Superman lore. Yes it was Sci Fi . But Supes an alien. I love that they explored that part.

I'm not ready to give it a score because I don't want to overrate the film. But I enjoyed this film as much as TDK and Avengers. But I hold those films in high esteem. I can't just yet.

My brother who never likes watching movies twice in a theater plans on going again.
