TMOS Reviews Thread - Non Spoiler Review and Discussion - Part 7

Personally, the ideal guy to be the producer of this Superman movie should be Paul Dini.

Nolan is the wrong guy for this project in my opinion.

That said, i have no doubt that this movie will be a financial success for WB, and the start of a new franchise, so Dini being the producer of future DC movies is just a wishful thinking on my part.

Just watched it. I have mixed feelings about it. The beginning was excellent,Krypton is gorgeous but scary at the same time. Crowe is great as Jor - El and Shannon was an awesome villain. But then , the movie becomes an editing mess that could or can confuse the GA.

Pros:
- Visual effects
- Krypton
- Crowe, Costner are awesome as Superman's dads

Cons:
- Editing
- Cavill ( Physically the man is impressive, the biggest Superman by far, but IMO Reeve and Routh were better )
- Fighting scenes are a huge mess and quite tiresome
- The music score didn't impress me at all.

For me:

STM: 9
S2: 7
S2DC: 9
S3: 4
S4: 2
SR: 8
MOS: 6

MOS is not awful, but it could've bee so much better, maybe next time guys.

not sure if serious ? u honestly think brandon routh made a better superman then cavill ? lol surely taking the piss, a plank of wood with a red towel attached to its back would of been a more entertaining superman then routh

The movie is still 12 days away from me, premieres on the 26th here in Stockholm.

I have a couple of questions for you guys/girls who have already seen it. Non-spoiler answers please :yay:

1. As a Superman fan, will i get shivers during the movie? Meaning, are there any special moments in the movie when you go like !Oh man, this is freaking Superman!"?

2. Is the transformation Clark/Superman well done? This is one of the most important things for me. On a scale from 1 to 10, how epic is this part?

As strange as it may sound, the thing that has pumped me up the most is the clips (from trailers etc) of him walking out of the FOS, cape swirling, walking out on the snow, to the ledge etc...

Thank you!

Dini is currently working on a Spiderman animated show and has no experience as a film producer. Dini has worked only in animation, comics, and video games. As much as I like his work, he'd need a lot of help to be ready to do a film of any kind. Plus it is very different to write a script for a half hour show compared to a two hour film.

Dini is more of a Batman savant anyway. Bruce Timm would be the one if you were going for someone in that realm.

Again, I think the most common rational critique is that there was a 'hollowness' to the movie...like something was missing that kept it from resonating. I share that opinion on it.

And that's ultimately subjective; what resonates with people varies. It resonated quite well with me.

But any film is judged subjectively. Some have greater diversity of opinion, others have less.

It's currently sitting at 82% on RT with fans based on those who have rated it 3.5 or better.

so you listen to the negative reviews? and you wont go...

why dont you listen to the positive reviews and go?

do whatever you want but WOW :woot:

and yes even most of the negative reviews say "Yeah it was cool, but it wasn't mind blowing" thats why they give a 3/5 or B-. but still choose to give it a rotten, which makes them look like.....

Sure there are some that said it "sucked" but thats the minority.

Most of the people loved it and the general audience LOVED the movie. Just look in the "Crowd report thread" on this forum.

Good points,in fact if look at audience rating for the superman 1 and 2 they are rated higher by the critics but lower by the masses. So far most folks like the new one better .

A little disappointed. Really pleased with Cavill and Shannon. Lots of action and we really get to see the power of Supes and how cool flying must be.

But something was missing that I can't quite put my finger on. Maybe too much story caused the movie to have to rush through things too much. I found the action to feel empty...I was not emotionally invested like I would like to be. Maybe Goyer and Nolan should stick to writing Batman stories. They seem to want to "transcend the comic book genre" and that won't work with Superman. He embodies comic books. I would love to see a Superman movie written by Joss Whedon....he loves comic books.

So...6/10 for me. My girlfriend actually hated it. (She loves comic book movies too)

Someone said it was like the other side of the coin of SR. What you liked and disliked in SR was opposite in MOS.

so mark waid hated this movie apparently

He didn't hate it. He has a very clear stance on Superman (he has to if he's a writer) and this movie violated things he held sacred. I think his points are valid. I'm not as invested as he is with the character, as most of the GA as well.

Probably. There are quite a few classic Superman moments. Some subtle, some not so much.

2. Is the transformation Clark/Superman well done? This is one of the most important things for me. On a scale from 1 to 10, how epic is this part?

It felt a bit rushed, in my opinion, but not painfully so. The reveal is pretty epic, but it doesn't quite go the way you might expect - which I really appreciated.

[BLACKOUT]it seems he took zod killing really personal and it really made him dislike the movie because he said he really first 3rd of the film[/BLACKOUT]

my friend just posted on facebook how his crowd went absolutely ballistic (in a bad way) because the theater showed a bunch of old trailers in his showing…including the man of steel trailer itself.

Then when it went dark and the movie started?

…it was star trek: Into darkness. :o

hahahahaha wtf

Saw this finally... Don't know what the hate is with the critics but i for one love this movie. Words cannot discribe how amazing and epic this movie is. Finally we see a superman not afraid to make choices and is not perfect. His choices were not easy but it help make him a better person. This is by far the best action movie I have ever seen. It got me teary mulitple times. Cannot wait for the sequel. 10/10.

By the way the crowed at my theater cheer, clap, and love it at the end of the film...

If this is by far the best action movie you've ever seen, my friend, you need to watch Terminator 2 :p

This is a 7 for me. There's some great stuff here, but an uneven pacing, some horrible exposition dialogue, and an exhaustion of people getting smashed into buildings, brings down the overall experience.

I loved the cast though, and found it interesting how they managed to keep Jor-El present throughout almost the entire film.

What did you get teary eyed for? The tornado? Meh.

Guys,

Trust me. This movie has serious pacing issues. As a movie it is not good. Think of a classic movie like Jaws or even the most recent Lincoln. Although those movies fall in a different genre they have great pacing, and drama. Remember the tension building in jaws? Remember the smooth and restrained story telling of Lincoln. That is what made the movies good. Watchmen had much much better pacing than MOS. Every scene in MOS is rushed!!!!!WTH Hollywood!!!!! Slow down! Let the scenes breathe!

MOS did not have enough AWE! Only a few people reacted to the arrival of aliens on the planet, and their overall reaction was like luke warm. "Oh, wow, there is an alien called Zod asking for an alien among us. Oh, well back to work."

Mark Kermode disappointed by the film (along with his co-host Mayo). :csad:

Well Jaws is one of my most hated films so we'll see tonight how I feel about the pacing. It can't be any worse than TDK....

Just saw it again with my mate! Man! I still love it. Change my mind on the score now and its an 9/10 and the same level as TDK for me.

Really the action and acting was awesome. It reminded me alot of birthright, secret origin and TAS combined.

Loved krypton and jorel riding that dragon creature. Also the climax was badASS. I felt it was too fast paced!lol! Very enjoyable overall. Ending was wicked with clark in the daily planet.

This blows every superman movie out the way. Soz but the original movies are long, boring and dated.

NEW RANKING:

1: TDK 9/10
2: MOS 9/10
3: SPIDERMAN 2 9/10
4: IRONMAN 1 9/10
5: THE AVENGERS 9/10

Bollocks to everyone! the only main critic should be you and if you loved mos it awesome.
