TMOS Reviews Thread - Non Spoiler Review and Discussion - Part 7

If it does major B.O. OW I want to see headlines like "The Amazing Snyder-Man, turns Steel into Gold" or " Steel beats Iron":yay:

It was just.... Eh.
I wanted to love this movie, I really did. Superman, while admittedly not a favorite of mine, is just so dang iconic that I've been dying to see a great superman movie for a while now. I remember being in middle school and being super pumped about Returns and the disappointment I felt after that; this isn't quite on that level but it's comparable.
Really and truly there just wasn't anything there really to like or dislike. It was nice to look at and all (Henry Cavill is a beautiful man, and I say that as a heterosexual male) but I just didn't feel anything while watching this movie, the only reaction it got from me was when I cringed from the dialogue. Man were there some poor lines.
I'd give it a 6 out of 10 if I'm being generous. I'll see it again to get my thoughts together but a 6 is what I'm sticking with for now.

Hey, at least you plan on seeing it again!

In short I give this a 6.5-7/10

agreed....it had potential to be great..but instead just good enough. The important plot points and ideas were there on paper...but somewhere in directing or screenwriting, something got lost.

Jor- El was great..stole the movie.

That's actually surprising you'd consider seeing what you consider a 6 a second time at the theater.

For me anything under an 8 i wouldn't see twice. No need to spend money twice on 2 potential disappointments.

I'm sure some friends of mine will be wanting to go within the next week, as I've heard a lot of people talking about it. It's not GL level bad where I couldn't sit through it again but I can't say I'm chomping at the bit for a second viewing. Like I said though, we'll see. I hope I change my mind.

Not about, 'seeing it again'I hope lol.

i think someone on here described it as something like this: It's like a kid saw the movie and was describing to a friend. That's how I felt.

The movie had good build-up for a great action 'first contact' mysterious alien sci-fi thriller. The mood and tone was set right in that regard.

The problem is how they
depict Superman. Really, the movie could have been great if they had more scenes of him being humble, showing love and compassion, bonding with his parents. He was too much of a jerk....yeah he hugs his mother here and there but even around her there are parts he seems cold and too arrogant. If they showed why he loved the world in spite of the taunting and alienation...the movie could have been fixed. People want a superher movie, not just an alien sci-fi...that's what's wrong with the movie. Snyder failed in that regard. I hope he's replaced as director in sequel.

Well I see most movies for free anyways, my best friend is the manager at a theatre and I know a lot of the employees so I kinda just walk in haha. It comes in handy considering how many movies I see.
Plus it's a superhero movie, I see pretty much every Marvel/DC movie in theatres at least twice. The exception being GL, and the ghost rider/punisher movies.
Not about, 'seeing it again'I hope lol.
Hahaha, no no no, definitely plan on seeing it again.

I saw it again tonight, twice...paid attention to the details...it felt better this go around as I made sense of the scenes...I think Snyder probably had seen it so many times that the editing flows better after you understand the transition. Def see it again, repeated viewings will help.

Have no issues with some not liking the movie.
Also its way better then IM3...my score jumped from 7.5 to 8.5

Mostly because we expect it as a superman film. It isn't. It is just a prequel.
We will see how the world react only in the sequel. :D

I have a question. For all of those that didn't like Man of Steel...be honest. Did any of you see 300 or Watchmen in theaters and did you have similar feelings about those films?

Yes. and I felt the same exact way about TASM.
The sequels are really going to set how i feel about these film series

Never saw 300 in theaters but when I saw it I was underwhelmed. I think all my friends had built it up to be so much more than it was, and I just didn't really enjoy it.
Watchmen, though, I liked. Wasn't perfect, haven't seen it in a couple years, but I enjoyed it.

Saw 300 in theatres..it was entertaining, not a great movie by any stretch.

Saw the directors cut of Watchmen, i appreciate the ambition but i still felt like they missed the mark on that.

Yeah because Watchmen and 300 both are in the 60's on Rotten Tomatoes and I own and have watched both films multiple times...love them both. That is what is keeping my hopes up hearing a lot of these negative reviews.

I'd have to see Watchmen again to gage how I feel about it now but like I said, I remember really liking it apart from that weird sex scene. Almost positive I saw it two days in a row in theaters. Just never got around to buying it on DVD, which now that I'm thinking about it I should do since it's probably pretty cheap...

Well if you didn't like 300 that really wasn't the fault of Zack Snyder. It was practically a shot for shot adaptation of the graphic novel.

I remember a couple years ago I had time to kill and started to read 300 and put it down real quick cause I got real bored, so you're probably right. Never been a big Frank Miller fan.

300 was ok, nothing special but when I catch it on cable sometimes I'll watch it for awhile before getting tired of it. Didn't like Watchmen. Snyder's best for me is still Dawn of the Dead.

And as played out as Snyder's slo-mo shots are after seeing MOS I wouldn't have minded a bit of his trademark slo-mo in that movie lol. It's like he did a 180 and made the fight scenes too damn fast. I know he wanted to show how fast the Kryptonians move but don't do it every damn scene. It was jarring the way they were hopping around all over the place. Slow it down just a LITTLE so I can take in what's going on.

Just got back from seeing and...meh. I was hyped for this movie but it just didn't click for me.

I did not see 300 in theaters because I was beginning to really sour on Frank Miller. I saw it at home though and was bored enough to leave the room and busy myself doing other things.

I LOVED Watchmen. Thought it improved on elements of the book (which is a classic, of course). I prefer Watchmen over Man of Steel, and it isn't even close.

Fans and the GA are raving about this movie. Lots of positive twitter feedback and metacritic user score is 8.8, imdb is 8.4, and RT user score is 4.2/5. This is truly a movie people are loving and seeing it over and over again
