And what about a positive review for MOS that called it "totally f**king awesome"?

Would you question the integrity of the critic then?

If it's a critic yes, if it's a regular movie goer no :yay:

Would you balk at calling Michael Bay's Transformers movies "totally stupid"?

I certainly would, as true as it is, a Critic is supposed to analyze a film, not make a remark that you'd expect to hear from a 13 year old.

While I concede that one is given a bit more journalistic freedom when writing an editorial (which a critique essentially is), there are still better ways of phrasing it. To me, when you have a very well composed sentence such as:

"STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS falls apart as it goes, raining debris as it implodes like a building being demolished," beginning it with "A totally stupid movie" does kind of take away from it. As I said, better ways to say it. If you MUST make such a simplistic remark, make it personal to break it up before saying something like that, then continue with your review. For example:

"STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS falls apart as it goes, raining debris as it implodes like a building being demolished. If I were having a drink with a friend who inquired what I thought of the movie, the best way I could describe it would be to call it a totally stupid movie. [new paragraph, continue review]"

Granted, that's simply the journalist in me being a bit nit-picky, but I see where the original detractor is coming from.

Saying the movie will only get 70% RT because of Zack Snyder is like saying the Avengers would only get 80% because of Joss Whedon ;)

At moments(mainly in the beginning on Krypton during the talk with the Elders) the camera can be a little too shakey.

I feel that some things weren't explained thoroughly enough, and some weren't explained at all.

Some characters weren't as fleshed out as they needed to be. But the overall acting was commendable. Great jobs all around.

The action does indeed blow TA out of the water imo. It is truly brutal. It's like watching a dc animated show/movie fight live-action. And you know how hardcore those fights can be.

Certain scenes that I expected to be in the movie weren't, but it wasn't a huge deal. I actually liked that Snyder didn't do the movie adhering to my expectations, but at the same time, reached my expectations beautifully. There are also certain scenes that should have been expanded on.

The Kryptonians weren't really fleshed out, but I understood the reasoning for it and think it's a slick way to do it. They aren't designed to go through emotional and personal changes like, say, Superman. They were engineered with a purpose. That's not to say the other Kryptonians didn't show any emotion, because they did. Zod is the main Kryptonian that went through the most emotions, though(excluding Supes).

8.5/10 for me. Loved it.

What would you rate TDK?

Good point. I think critics don't think as much about prestige as we think we do, though I feel that if Bay made a truly excellent film it would probably get 68 percent fresh ;)

Not quiet sure what you were going for with this post but Whedon is generally loved and has a following while people see Snyder as the second coming of Michael Bay.

By that logic, this movie will get bad reviews and a ton of money.

Not saying it will, but that's how M Bay movies turn out.

^ Snyder HAD a significant following. Then he made Sucker Punch :/
Hopefully this redeems him among his former fans.

I could understand why some people will think TDK is the better movie. But for me, personally, MOS had the most of what I've been waiting for in a cbm. That is why I rate it higher.

I didn't really understand the movie SP as I was watching it (I went on wikipedia after) but I was distracted by the visuals the whole time :D

True. But the general vile he had for that film has yet to be matched. Not to mention - while it's easy to be on the "Twilight Sucks" bandwagon these days - it was a touchy topic at first, you risked being trampled by millions of deluded, unbalanced obese women and 12 year old girls.

He had the balls to say what needed to be said when very few did.

I tend to disagree with the man most of the time - but sometimes he's right. And when he is - it's about as perfect as right can be.

Nah, sorry, a huge segment of female YA readers deconstructed Twilight and created the hate bandwagon long before the film came out. Believe me, it was popular to rip Twilight to elegant shreds before Devin even knew what it was. As a connoisseur of YA fiction (I read The Hunger Games the month it was published in 2008), trust me: I was there. ;) For every guy who hates the franchise now, I can introduce you to dozens more women who hated it with the fire of a thousand suns back in the day.
