While I won't waste too much time on Devin, he does tend to make some decent points (and a whole bunch of crap ones) but I can't take him seriously as someone who knows anything about film, because of his terrible elitist abrasive attitude. It just seems like someone who acts a certain way in order to come off as someone he thinks he should be.

Nailed it so much it hurts.

I posted here last night offering a few thoughts from an advance screening I attended in Houston. Here's my non spoiler review at Comics and Cosplay.

I don't bash Devin because his opinions scare me or are different than mine. I just plain dislike him, and I have little respect for him because he is unable or unwilling to acknowledge that there are other valid ways to do superhero films besides his preferred tone.

I also get the impression that he gets off on being contrarian and getting people riled up. He's just got a snarky way about him that is bound to rub people the wrong way.

Freaking BINGO!!! I respect opinions. But that's what they are. Faraci states them as irrefutable facts.

I agree with YOU and so does the majority. ST:ID is this year's movie to beat at the moment.
It's not my favorite movie of the year so far, maybe the number 2 spot, but as for a blockbuster it definitely is the number 1 movie to beat right now. Im sure MOS will crunch it though. :woot:

 Thanks! Great review, and I'm happy to hear another positive reaction to the film.

How would you rank the film among other superhero films? In other words, what are your favorite superhero movies, and how does Man of Steel compare to them?

Great review! Although I gotta admit, hearing how good Shannon's Zod is, and how good the action is, I can't help but be a bit sad at the thought of the movie overshadowing Superman II and Stamp's Zod and making them seem campier than ever now. Lol

My favorite superhero films in order prior to Man of Steel:

1. The Dark Knight
2. Avengers
3. Batman Begins
4. The Dark Knight Rises
5. Iron Man 1
6. X-Men 2
7. Watchmen
8. Captain America: TFA
9. X-Men: First Class
10. Spider-Man 2

Where does Man of Steel fit in? Definitely somewhere in the top 5. I'm tempted to put it at #2. I just can't put it above The Dark Knight because of Ledger's performance and the fact that I grew up more of a Batman fan than Superman.

This is how his review might go:

Faraci: This is no fantasy... no careless product of wild imagination. No, my good friends. These indictments that I have brought you today...specific charges listed herein against Snyder/Nolan...their acts of treason, their ultimate aim of realism and plausibility in CBM's. These are matters of undeniable fact.

I ask you now to pronounce judgment on those accused: and on this - this mindless aberration of a movie, whose only means of expression are wanton violence and destruction; whose perversions and unreasoning hatred of all camp in CBM's have threatened even the children of the GA.

Finally, WB - once trusted by the fanbase, charged with maintaining the defense of this genre itself - chief architect of this intended revolution, and author of this insidious plot, to establish a "New Order" amongst Superhero films - with Nolan as absolute ruler! You have heard the evidence.

The decision of the Faraci the Great contrarian will now be heard:..... Awesome movie A+ MOS FTW!

Thanks for the review. Which theater in the Houston area?

It was the Edwards Marq'E theater. I've been there a few times to see advance showings: the last Harry Potter, Transformers 3, Green Lantern. Last night, there was also a screening for The Internship there.

Was it the IMAX screen?

Yeah... sadly, I think that's gonna happen. It's just a product of time and the enhanced special effects available now. Stamp and Reeve couldn't duke it out while flying through buildings lol.

Snyder does what he can with the Nolan/Goyer story and just about manages to make it somewhat thrilling and exciting yet we cannot help but think what could have been if it were not this somber a tale

This is what i expect Devin Faraci's review to say
