Haha are you talking about that one blog review? The one where the woman said it didn't follow the "books" (her words), but she's never actually read ANY of them. Her review made no sense. I've never read any GL so I won't watch GL and say it didn't follow the comics...

LOL, yeah. She's (apparently) posting in the open discussion forum defending her bizarre review. I'm not going to say that her opinions are wrong or stupid, but I do find it strange that someone who has never read the comics is somehow upset that the movie took some liberties and went in its own direction. I also don't understand the Independence Day stuff, since ID was a fairly derivative movie. And I love ID... but it's not particularly original.

Well MoS has space ships, and ID has space ships. Bam there you go.

I can't judge her for having an opinion and I myself have not seen the film, but the comments she made were.....beyond odd.

I agree. I don't mind a critical review, as long as it makes sense. Doesn't matter to me, I can ignore it. Of course the drama is coming now...

Another non-spoiler review: http://www.mdfchurch.com/index.php/keith-s-blog/entry/my-man-of-steel-movie-review

There were a few public screenings last night and he was at one. I actually go to one tomorrow. *giddy*

The author thinks the movies screenwriter is Joe Schuster, I stopped reading after that.

I do find it strange that someone who has never read the comics is somehow upset that the movie took some liberties and went in its own direction.
This is strange. I've never read the comics either and am only familiar with "pop culture Superman" but I'd never then go and say that this movie or any other comic book film took liberties with the source material.

Haven't heard much. ThePowerComic and Dajanksta's screening yesterday was apparently a 2D screening.

So I saw this yesterday, now I'm not sure if I put my review here or not but oh well. First off let me say that this is going to be a very brief and completely spoiler free review, I feel this movie is best seen not knowing as much there is just so many cool things that are happening during it that even just hearing a description ruins it a bit. Secondly, I'd like to say I hate Superman. Can't stand him, wasn't really a huge fan of the first Superman movie even though Reeve was ridiculously charismatic and entertaining to watch. Didn't like 2-4 nor Returns. They were all bad to me though I know people love 2.

The TDK trilogy are my favorite comic book movies easily, I find that no movie even comes close to touching those 3. Well I think we finally have a movie that comes close maybe even tops them. I walked out of this movie and the first thing out of my mouth was "wow" This movie blew my mind.

First off I need to talk about the story because it is star of this movie. Its very slow and deliberate, it takes its sweet time introducing to characters, themes, situations and it does it brilliantly. But once the action starts to ramp, man oh man woo it takes you for a wild ride. I guess what I'm saying is that the pace is perfect, you never feel bored. You're always really interested in these characters because they are all so fleshed out and you understand where they all are coming from even Zod. The acting in this movie is just phenomenal.

Holy crap Henry Cavill just delivers like Bale (who I think is the best Batman hands down) did for me in Batman Begin. He is just perfect, he brings the emotion when he needs to, he's crazy charismatic even more so than Reeve was. He is who people will think of when they think of Superman now. I thought for sure he'd be out shined by Shannon as Zod but thankfully he was not. That's not a knock on Shannon, no no just a huge compliment to Cavill. Shannon is terrifying as Zod, absolutely terrifying. The man is completely crazy but yet you perfectly understand where he is coming from. His motives make complete sense and while he's the villain, he doesn't really have evil motives.

The side characters are all very strong especially Lois Lane, Jor El, and the Kents. I dare anyone not to tear up a few times when we are with the Kents, holy every scene with them is just so emotional and Costner/Lane bring their A game. Russell Crowe just nails it as Jor El, he's a man who wants to do whats best and he is also very caring and wise. You believe this man has seen things and imbues all the wisdom he has to deliever to Superman but also that he could kick some ass when he needs to. I can't describe how much I hated Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane, wow she was bad. Thankfully Amy Adams does a 180 with the role and she is phenomenal, very strong powerful woman. I love that she is more of a hands on type reporter this time and the directions they take her character are really awesome.

Now the action/visuals. I don't know how to describe the action except to say its just jawdropping. You thought The Avengers was "epic" in scale (which I actually thought it really wasn't) hahaha no no that doesn't even begin to touch Man of Steel. Every action scene is huge and brutal, you can feel every punch ( yes there are punches in this movie), you can see every action scene perfectly but yet the camera makes you feel like you're there. Just amazing, I don't know how to describe it more vividly without spoiling stuff. This is definitely the first Superman movie where I believed Superman was actually flying, the flying is done perfectly. This movie already has the Oscar for visual effects, hands down. There will easily be no competition. Just the fact that the armor is all cg, wins it for them.

Few last little things, I realize this got a bit longer than brief but I can't stop thinking about this movie. The score is phenomenal, Superman's theme is so inspirational. I don't really have any complaints about the movie, it is the movie of the year so far and its going to be very very very hard to top.

Overall, this is going to be the event movie of the year, people are going to go see this again and again. Its going to be the event movie that TDK was which I feel was the last event movie we had, I realize Avengers made a kajillion dollars but it didn't feel like an event like TDK was. I'll probably see it 3 or 4 more times. Finally, we have a Superman movie worth seeing. It was amazing. 9/10

forgive me for not knowing this - did we get the answer as to how the dude shaves?

It's the only spoiler I want to know lol.

I know you are just being helpful but if you start putting spoiler tags in this thread doesn't that defeat the purpose of this thread? If people want to know specific things, then they need to go and look/ask in the spoiler thread.

Jacobed this is the right thread and thank you so much for your thoughts! Glad to see another Hype member has seen it early. :D

My SPOILER LIMITED review. I can include one with Spoilers or you can PM me for some.
This movie did it for me. I give it an 8.5/10 and the flaws that it did have seem like they will be addressed in the next film. Comparing this to the Nolan's Batman franchise it's better than Begins, and TDKR, imo. It's not better than TDK and this is coming from a Superman fan first. However, this is a reboot and it had to deal with origins which were pretty awesome to see. I don't think any comic reboot can be as good as TDK because Batman was already established when it came out and that's why I'm looking forward to a sequel for this film. My only problems or the "flaws" that I had with this film were lack of time to develop a deep relationship with Clark and Lois. They do have great chemistry but It was a lot harder to develop that without them [BLACKOUT]spending lots time together that they normally get from working the Daily Planet[/BLACKOUT]. I don't mean screen time either just time in general in the film. But I believe this will be solved since [BLACKOUT]he's working at the Daily Planet at the end of the film[/BLACKOUT]. That relationship should flourish even more than it already did. Their chemistry was GREAT. The only other flaw I had was there was some pretty noticeable CGI. I would of preferred that I didn't notice it but I'm nit picky. The film was beautiful visually and the parts I did notice didn't remove me from the experience I was having. It's not like it's during the entire movie either it's just in a few spots. I loved the pacing, flashbacks, Cavill was great as every persona and had his accent down perfectly, I loved the deep emotional feelings, I love how Superman [BLACKOUT]did have to make a choice and boy was it a big one but I agreed with it. It was a beautiful film and had quite a few Lexcorp nods from the building, a shipping type truck, and a tanker type truck from what I noticed. The Wayne enterprises satellite is shown very quickly and I nearly missed it.[/BLACKOUT] This film did exactly what a reboot needed to do and I'm so excited to see where they take it. There was so much to take it I need to see this again 2 possibly even 3 more times. Go buy a ticket this film is worth every penny.

Copied from general thread, sorry about that. Thanks for the other reviews guys. I'm about to explode.

WOW, your review makes me want to go do about a million pushups for every nice thing said about this film. This type of review by an admitted Supes hater (well, maybe not anymore?:cwink:) BAH GAWD, thank you for the words dude. SUPES IS BACK BABY!

Outstanding reviews, man. One of my biggest concerns would've been that the pacing might have been a little off, as I didn't see how the hell they were gonna fit Superman's origins, the origins/scenes of other characters, explosion of Krypton, etc, et into one 2 hour and forty something movie, but glad that doesn't seem to be a concern. Seeing this bad boy opening night and I hope I get the same feels that you guys seem to be getting...

Awesome stuff. Glad that you liked it and it's good to know that someone who isn't a fan of Superman really enjoyed it. This is why I'll defend the first two X-Men movies to the death; I hate Wolverine with a passion but those movies made me love the character.

Anyway, most of all, I'm glad to hear people saying Cavill nailed it as Superman. I've been a supporter of his since back in the Tudors days, and I know he's gotten a lot of flack, mostly by people who felt Blandon Routh's performance somehow wasn't wooden and dull. I can't wait for this movie. The suspense is killing me!

Is it possible for me to be any more impatient for this film? Great reviews and I appreciate the critical approach Dajanksta.

I'm nerding out right now and ready to go broke buying merchandise I don't need to satiate my thirst for this film. Oh, and I'm actually doing some push-ups after posting this. I need to look good in a super suit.

jacobed's review makes me so stoked, just for the fact that he hates Superman but still loved this movie. I mean if I find the movie just as good and adding to that my bias, the fact that Superman is my favorite fictional character and mythos ever, then lord be with me... :D

:pal: this, totally!

My wife's going to leave me if I don't stop talking about it. Wait until after the movie.

I completely forgot to talk about Snyder. The man delivers his trademark visuals and phenomenal action scenes but this time he finally gets a good script to a movie. There isn't any slow motion action scenes but they definitely play with speed in this movie as we've seen in tv spots, the kryptonians definitely use their super speed to their advantage. The man directed the crap out of this. He is able to get everyone to bring their A+ game to this movie and you can tell he's loving every second of it especially in the action scenes.

Glad to hear it. I really hope people give Snyder the credit he deserves for this movie.

Thanks for that. Kinda makes you wish Snyder would have included a cameo of himself.
