The Dark Knight Rises Tom Hardy as Bane IX

^LOL, I'm not blind. Of course he doesn't look like that in the comics. I just feel his look isn't gonna define who he is in the movie.

There are certain characteristics of Bane's character that establish who he is. His height and mask are two very important characteristics. Without those two characteristics, he is just another random thug.

Thank you. At least you can admit to that.

I don't think anyone's suggesting he looks like the Bane of the comics. I already said when these set pics started coming in that it's quite clear this is a Bane who is visually distinct from his comics counterpart. But it's still a compelling look in its own right, and based on what we can glean from the plot thus far from the various set reports and images, it seems that in terms of the character he is very much sticking true to what Bane is all about at his thematic core.

So you'd rather have him look like that POS from Batman and Robin?!:dry::dry:

LOL, wow.

At no point in the history of this forum have I EVER implied, suggested, or said something like that.

Yes his height and stature is part of him being that imposing figure. But its very hard to tell that from just set pics, from the teaser the way Bane was shot with Batman backing up sold that to me. It appears his mask is mostly a face guard this time but that works for me, but its subjective.

When I think of who Bane is, I think of him as the anti-Batman, the man who has spent his life honing his mind and body like Bruce Wayne, only in the service of crime rather than justice. And yes, I think of him as a physical powerhouse, someone capable of physically dismantling Batman. But that doesn't necessarily mean that when I think Bane, I think, "The guy who is 6 foot 5."

And this is where the TDK Joker parallels come in. How lengthy and endless the debates were that this would be JINO, that it was no longer recognisable as The Joker. And people who said they could totally still capture the essence of the character were dismissed as apologists and Nolanites, much like is happening now. And we know how that turned out.

As I said before, whether The Dark Knight Rises is great or terrible, Bane's height is going to have about as much impact on the film's quality as Heath Ledger's neckline had on The Dark Knight.

Although I was not a member here in '07, I clearly remember all the discontent and disapproval the Joker's costume and war paint was getting (mostly from the purists).

[Four years later] Surprise, surprise, surprise... here we go again.

Let me ask you purists a question: Did you honestly think that Christopher Nolan would bring to life the same Bane from the comics? Seriously, if you gave yourself that idea then it's your own damn fault for the letdown.

This purist mentality is filled with bulls**t. I mean, I'm a cynic, but even you purists are bringing me down.

Purists hated the fact that Ra's al Ghul was not immortal and that he did not have his iconic white streaks in his hair. Then came the Joker and Two-Face in TDK. By the Joker not having bleached skin and Two-Face not 'appearing' like Two-Face, the characters were labeled as disappointments. However, after the release of the films, the attitude and tone seem to have changed with the critics.

Will these opinions change, and be nothing but a distant memory in 2012? Probably.

Will you purists ever be satisfied? No. I swear, you ladies and gentlemen remind me of hopeless romantics.

The Nolanverse is its own distinct world with its own aesthetic, like a Batman Elseworlds story. It should be expected that the characters may be altered on a surface level to fit within that aesthetic. And I'm okay with that, so long as the characters remain true at their core.

Ledger's performance as the Joker was capturing lightning in a bottle. It's not something that happens very often. He was the only Nolan villain to be nominated for an Oscar for a reason.

As I've now said several times, the Joker argument does not hold up. The Joker still looked like the Joker. His hair was green. His face was white. His lips were red. His suit was purple. This Bane looks nothing like Bane.

I just wanna say that the Bane from Batman & Robin actually looked pretty ****in cool and extremely similar to his comic book counterpart. Having said that, he also lacked the complete essence of the character (aside from Venom).

I'll take Nolan's version any day. Let's remember Nolan's Joker didn't exactly look totally familiar to us, but he WAS the Joker.

Bane's worn that jacket and those pants in the comics. The mask looks similar (the white parts substituted for skin of course).

Yet again you are trying to dismiss me as a purist even though you know that I am not and enjoyed the other Nolan villains. :nono:

When did a luchador mask and a tank top become this iconic design to begin with. Now, don't get me wrong, Nolan's costume isn't the most asethically appealing design but to me bane's design was nothing to write home about anyways. I'll wait to see how it looks in the movie.

Hey, at least they're respecting the mythos of Bane's coat. Coat purists can rest at ease.

He wears a trench-coat very similar to that in "Vengence Of Bane".
I was curious so I made a little collage thing. Looks fairly similar imo.

It holds up, because we can say it looks like The Joker now, but back then there were plenty of people saying it was absolutely unrecogisable as The Joker. "If you showed me this picture out of context, I'd think it was The Crow, not The Joker." And many similar such pics.

But yes, Heath Ledger looked more like The Joker than Tom Hardy looks like Bane. But The Joker has a much more iconic look than Bane. Ra's al Ghul's green cloak is his only recognisable piece of wardrobe in the comic, and the world didn't end when it wasn't carried over into the movie. And Jonathan Crane didn't need to dress up in a full-blown Scarecrow costume to be Scarecrow.

Nah. You're not so bad. I've seen alot worse. Some 'fans' even had the audacity to state that they were not going to see the film because the film left Chicago.

I'm fully aware that Bane has worn a trenchcoat before in the comics. That is not my issue.

Good lord I hope not. I really dont think Nolan would add something physically impossible into the realistic universe he has created.

A dude dressing up as a bat and fighting crime? Crazy but could happen.
But a real person couldn't glide the way that Batman does with that wing area.

A psychologist creating a fear toxin that causes hallucinations? I could see that.

A man who takes a substance that makes his body physically grow instantly in size? Nah.

I feel that same way about the Lazarus pit. Dont want to see it.
No less believable than a vehicle driving over rooftops or a microwave emitter that only boils water in pipes but not in human bodies or anything else with water in it, really.

physical features aren't characteristics. Bane's defining characteristics are his tactical brilliance and his strength/savagery, which according everything we've seen and heard so far are intact. No "random thug" has broken Batman's spirit and body, only Bane has done that. Him wearing a different mask and a coat doesn't really change that for me.

Actually, they are. Are you going to tell me that if Two-Face wasn't half-burned, that it would still be him? Or if the Joker had a different colored face, that it would still be him? That's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. Physical appearance has everything to do with a character.

^Well yes he looks nothing like Bane, but how Bane looks isn't what makes his character interesting. I get that all we have to go on right now is set pics but the teaser showed us that Bane is gonna be that imposing force.

Dude...seriously...stop making so much sense! It isnt welcomed round these parts! Hell if you aint down with blind cynical fanboy rage then you can just GGGIIITTT OOOOOOOUUUUUUUTTTT!!!
