I like my Bane around this size. :word:

Ideally, Bane would look very similar to this in live-action:

Maybe in 20 years time, when he could possibly make his cinematic return. I'm sure tech would be far advanced enough that enhancing any fairly built actor to that size and proportion is standard.

^ holy ****! I was just about to post that gif!
THAT'S what I want bane to look like.

That's how I picture Bane's size in a movie as well.

How many people of that size are actually high quility actors though? From what I remember of the days when this build was especially popular the Arnold Schwarzenegger's and Dolph Lundgren's couldn't act to save themselfs. Sylvester Stallone (in super specific roles) seemed to be the exception.

You all would sacrifice acting for a massive stand-in-celebrity?

Awesome.

Yet another person who is cherry picking comments to prove a misguided point. Not one person in this forum has said that they would sacrifice acting for size. It's not impossible to want both.

I don't believe they implied anything of the sort. They were simply referring to his size/muscle mass.

I guess by "camera trickery" they meant baggy pants and long sleeve shirt?:oldrazz::oldrazz::oldrazz:

Name me one actor who fits the bill then.

Perhaps you two missed a tidbit in my post. I'll make it a bit clearer:

I don't like the coat. It reminds me of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, where Liev Schreiber as Victor Creed actually did get big and muscular, but then spent the entire movie walking around in this black trenchcoat where you couldn't even tell how much muscles he had under it.

(disclaimer: no I'm not comparing TDKR to Wolverine, or assuming Bane is gonna wear the coat the whole movie, since we see him sleeveless in the teaser trailer)

Hardy is definitely wearing heeled boots, and it seems to me that he looks taller than he actually is in those pics. Also, the comment about the camera angles makes me wonder if they're just filming him from below to make him appear taller. I guess the final test will be when he and Bale are in the same shot and an equivalent distance from the camera.

I generally completely agree with those who say that capturing a character's personality is more important than looking exactly like him. I really don't care that Michael Caine's Alfred doesn't have a moustache, or that Harvey Dent was blond, because whether Alfred does or doesn't have a moustache and the color of Dent's hair are not essential parts of their character. I was nonplussed when I found out The Joker had a Chelsea grin and makeup instead of permawhite, but the end result was still an approximation of his appearance from the comics. He wore a purple suit, he had a white face, and he had green hair. Ledger's performance was perfect.

But I can't agree with those who say Bane's muscles don't matter, only his personality does. Let's not kid ourselves that Ledger's Joker would have felt like The Joker if he had a normal face and blond hair and ran around in a T-shirt and jeans, even if he acted like The Joker. The Joker's white face and green hair are iconic aspects of the character, and so is Bane being big and muscular.

A Bane who is shorter than Batman just would not look right, to me. There's no way around it. From what we've seen of Hardy so far, he's no more built than Bale is as Batman, maybe less.

It's snowing............ Bane needs to keep himself warm............ :awesome:

*imagine big Batman fight between himself and Bane in an overly large Snuggie dragging across the floor*

Sure, but the reality of it is you can't get somebody who is BANE-SIZED in real life to fit the bill. Nolan isn't going to cast a WWE guy just because he "looks" the part and sacrifice all of the acting talent that truly drives the story.

We might still get lucky and get a couple segments of an injected-CGI-Bane but that's going to be the extent of it outside of camera angles.

UPDATE:

Just saw that new pic when I refreshed the page....I finally got the real test I was waiting for, and Bane looks smaller than Batman...

I do like that they're fighting in the snow though.

Exactly.

I know it's probably an unpopular opinion...But id honestly rather have somebody with a body like that..and have a good actor do a voice.
Because of the mask,Hardy will definitely have to deliver most of his performance through a voice over anyway.
And his mouth is covered.
Same thing pretty much...
