The Dark Knight Rises Tom Hardy as Bane IX

Hardy's double is at least three inches bigger, and he's also wearing boots.
Are there pics with both side-by-side to confirm this? That is a staggering difference.

Now add this with camera angles and trickery and you've got a big bad mofo.
We've seen them shooting Batman/Bane fighting head-to-head. Bane is still shorter and Batman's hits are not accounting for any size discrepancy. There is a clear shot of Bats elbowing and punching Bane in the face, and the latter reacts accordingly. Should they have planned to enhance Hardy, it would not make sense for him to stagger his head backwards from a hit that would conceivably land on his chest.

I can only speak for myself, but the footage captured today almost seals the deal that Nolan won't be doing any special work for Hardy's size. At least -- not for this fight scene.

Are you familiar with Bane's character at all? I'm not trying to be rude but Bane is not Batman's size. Bane does not look Batman in the eye. He doesn't look up to him. He's not slimmer than Batman. He is a physical presence that looks down on Batman.

Nolan has dismissed two very important aspects of Bane's character and I just cannot wrap my head around it. It's a problem when Batman looks more of a threat than Bane does. (Like the set picture today suggests.)

Again, you're making assumptions based on spy pics. You have yet to see the finished product and you're judging the director like there's no tomorrow.

BUT you're basing this on spy pics.

Hardy's double is at least two inches bigger, and he's also wearing boots. Now add this with camera angles and trickery and you've got a big bad mofo.
But you're basing this whole "camera trickery" idea on wishful thinking. We don't know if Nolan will do that.

He already made the mask look nothing like Bane, why would he be worried about his height, as well?

Are you familiar with the first two Batman movies by Nolan? This is not a comic book, its Nolan's universe. This will not be some ridiculously big monster. Its the same people that were complaining about Heath's look, with the scars and the makeup, I heard not just on the internet, "that's not the joker". Nolan got the best actor possible and this is how he sees Bane, so its fine.

You know...I'm actually very familiar with Nolan's first two Batman movies. I stood in line to get tickets for them both and I joined this forum specifically because of The Dark Knight. I have enjoyed Nolan's other Batman movies and I have said (time and again) that I am not writing this movie off because of Bane's horrible appearance. I will be seeing this one just as I have every other Batman movie that has hit theaters.

I'm really tired of this whole default back to the Joker argument. That argument holds absolutely no weight. If the Joker had looked like a regular guy running around in a clown t-shirt you'd have a point. The Joker still looked like the Joker. Plain and simple. He had the white face, green hair, red lips, purple suit, etc.

Well, Buster Reeves is around 6'2, and Hardy's stunt double was an inch smaller. So I'm making an educated guess.

I understand but what if this is just a practice run? Perhaps Nolan is doing a dress rehearsal?

Again, you're making assumptions based on spy pics. You have yet to see the finished product and you're judging the director like there's no tomorrow.

And you're making excuses for the director like there's no tomorrow.

Two important aspects of Bane's character are his physical size (which Hardy is not) and his mask (which was radically redone).

If he's involved with the League of Shadows, as the set pics seem to indicate, I'd assume he's a very skilled fighter like Bruce and Ra's.

One thing I am unclear on...exactly what in the set pictures indicates his involvement in the League of Shadows? With so much info coming out so quickly, I haven't been able to keep up with everything. Is it just the fact that he has numerous henchmen?

True, but camera trickery at least holds a foundation because of what we witnessed in the teaser trailer, and based on what Hardy stated in interviews. Why would he lie?

Bane's muscular, imposing and has a face mask that appears to be designed to deliver venom into his system.

Ummm, I have every right to defend the director considering the film isn't finished.

At this point, you're being troll-ish.

I'd wait and see for more tangible evidence.

If it was rehearsal, they would logically rehearse the same exact moves that needed to be filmed. Again, if there any plans to work on Bane in post, there would be prep work involved to ensure there are no conflicts in the actual footage. This is especially true for choreography, and ones involving the engagement of the principal character.

that I am not writing this movie off because of Bane's horrible appearance.

Again that is just your opinion, I think he looks better now than he does in the comic. Where he does look like a pro wrestler.

And on the joker thing, you may have liked his look, but alot of people were saying that exactly what you are saying, in that the joker was supposed to look a certain way, and he didn't.

I actually don't think so. The teaser was just following the fight with Bane and Batman. The camera was following behind Bane, and they were walking up steps, so it's just natural to have your camera angled up, but just because we saw that in the teaser, doesn't mean we will get that with every scene with Bane.

I knew they should have released an official promo image for Bane (full body), Batman (new suit) and Catwoman before these spy pics got out...

What makes you think Batman is getting a new suit? :cwink:

To be fair, the first pics of Ledger from the set made him look like the Crow and there was a ton of discussion/complaints about it. It wasn't even evident at the time that he had red lips or a purple suit. You're comparing the final product in TDK to set pics of TDKR. I will say the set pics for TDKR are a ton better than the early stuff we got from TDK, but it still isn't the final product.

I've also grown tired of anyone who speaks less than favorable of anything Nolan being called a troll. I am a huge batman fan and have every right to debate and discuss these topics. (Whether my opinion lines up with yours or not.)

My being a moderator doesn't mean that I'm not allowed to have an opinion.

What is this I don't even..
He's not trolling at all.

He's nitpicking at everything. I certainly believe that is a little troll-ish -- especially considering the film isn't close to being finished yet.

I say just wait for the next trailer to judge Bane's size.

Are you guys ****ing kidding me? Did you completely forget about the teaser? In the teaser, the only OFFICIAL footage released, Bane looks ****ing massive at the end.

Jesus Christ this is amazing spider man all over again except it's not the costume, it's the freaking villain. WAIT UNTIL MORE FOOTAGE IS RELEASED UNTIL YOU CALL BANE PUNY.

People judging movies by set pics are stupid as hell. Pathetic

Yeah, remember we got this first:

Heath-Ledger-DarkKnight-Joker.jpg

Even I didn't like it. Then we got this:

Then all was well with the world.
