The Dark Knight Rises Tom Hardy as Bane

At a certain size, fighting become impractical.

His current size combined with various kinds of movie magic should work very well me thinks.

They don't need movie magic. Hardy is in fantastic shape. I think the rest of his strength is gonna be his intellect, his cunning, his brain. He's gonna track down Bruce/Batman relentlessly, hence the name, BANE. No CGI needed here, folks.

Word of warning, again! Don't post CBM links or hot link to that site

This reminds me of the time when publicity stills for Batman Begins were first released, and my friend--who's a massive fanboy---kept whining on about how Nolan was getting things all wrong. "That's not the batmobile! It's a freakin' ugly truck/tank!," he would say. "Ras al Ghul has to be Arab and have a nice tan, and wear a green cape, and say 'Detective!' every two seconds. Liam Neeson is not Ras al Ghul! The Scarecrow is an old, crazy man! Not some baby-faced, blu-eyed, young guy!"

This Bane discussion reminds me of my friend. "He has to be big, like really big-- like the Hulk! And he has to have Venom, and he has to wear a Mexican wrestling mask! Otherwise it's not Bane! Hardy is too small!":doh::doh::doh::doh:

*WARNING* TO ALL DELUSIONAL FANBOYS. This is A REALISTIC take on Bane, "A New interpretation." So PLEASE stop with the whining about Hardy being too small. It's such nonsense. This is Nolan's universe. He's not gonna have a 7 foot tall action figure running around Gotham. Get real.
I like how you call everybody "delusional fanboys" because they dared to not like what you obviously do.

Please remember kids, to NOT expect Hardy's version of Bane to look like a big azz steroided up monstrous freak.

Hardy will be ripped and bulked up, but he won't look like some bodybuilding juiced up freak of nature like what has been depicted in the comics and animated shows.

Bale better be ripped and bulked up also!

yes, if you expect bane to be muscly like the comics you're a delusional psychopathic nutjob

trust in nolan or kill yourself

Hardy is not monstrous but he looks passable for a live action version of the Bane character. The illustrations in the comics are meant to exaggerate. For example, Batman looks to be 6'5 and 290 pounds yet he's only 6'2, 210. This is the reason I'm not really expecting him to look cartoonish. Schumacher was lucky to find that guy who wrestled for World Class with the legendary Von Erichs for the role although his face was covered the entire time and he didn't really have any lines.

What Im wondering is if Nolan will even bother trying to make Bane look huge. Who knows if he'll just leave Hardy as-is without camera tricks and such.

Is this a new photo of Hardy or no?

I really don't think Nolan is going to go the Venom route in this.

I seriously think I've been watching different movies. Nolan isn't 'realistic', that isn't what 'realism' is. What 'realism' means is the movie takes place in a world that appears similar to our own. Notice the word 'APPEARS', it's very important.

Is Venom really that far fetched? Scarecrow had 'fear toxin'. There is no such thing as 'fear toxin', and even if such a weaponized hallucinagen was used you couldn't produce a concept as vague as fear. Hallucinations can vary based on the mood and temperment of the person having the hallucination. It's why some people talk to Scooby-Doo while on acid, and the rest freak out while being chased by the monsters. Scarecrow could no more control the reactions of his victims, than I could control someone else's dreams.

Microwave emitters, also a crock of sh**, and probably less realistic than a super-steroid. At least the concept of Venom can be boiled down to an understandible substance: "a really fast acting steroid compound", as opposed to a microwave emitter that doesn't effect people standing right next to it.

Consider within two films we've had fear toxin, a 'magnetic grapple gun', a magical non-burning eye, a microwave emitter and a Joker who is nigh-omniscent, I don't think it's out of the question that'll he'll include Venom.

Wow. Well done, sir. Perfectly stated .

Actually, from my experience in Bodybuilding, particularly helping people prep for shows, a lot of people swear that shaving your head makes you appear bigger on stage and on camera.

I think its true. Im not surprised he has a shaved head for Bane.

Too bad there isn't a rep option on the SuperHero Hype forums. You nailed it.

I think the Venom in the movie might not actually be used to make him get bigger and "hulk out" like it does in the comics.

But more of an adrenaline boost kinda thing? Make him faster, more durable. Maybe make him go into a kinda, blood lust.

Honestly, people expecting him to be like 300 pounds, or even 250 pounds of pure muscle are kidding themselves. Hardy is a short guy, he'd never get to that weight and still look like he could lift his arms above his head. He needs to be big, sure. But also believable as an actual fighter.

Him being quite short will add to the "hench" effect anyway.

Steroids do much more than increase muscles. It gives you more energy, helps your body to recover quicker, helps you to sleep better, makes you faster, etc. lack of hormones is what makes people old. Think of how it's like to have extra of that. The venom could provide literally everything to make him physically stronger (beyond strength), kind of like steroids.

Wow, first post! I have been following the threads a lot and decided to get in the action. Totally excited for this upcoming film!

The "Hello, I'm Ben" stuff has been hilarious too. Ha... "Ben."

Hardy is going to rock as Bane. I was a huge fan of Knightfall when I was younger...thus, excited that a real director, Nolan, will give the "Bane" character some much needed respect. I have a feeling that they will show an origin to his being locked in jail since his youth as well: Thus, why they are bringing young Ra's back in flashbacks (I think Bane's gangster father is the one that killed Ra's "great love" aka his wife. Ra's gets his "revenge" by killing Bane's father....and somehow doesn't think that this punishment is enough....then he somehow incarcerates the young Bane for added punishment towards their family.) I don't know...just some thoughts I had on how they could tie in for the early storyline- thoughts?

Yes i understand that. What i mean is, I wouldn't be expecting Bane to "hulk out" in this movie like in the comics or cartoons or whatever.

I don't expect to see any actual physical change with the Venom use.
