I seriously think I've been watching different movies. Nolan isn't 'realistic', that isn't what 'realism' is. What 'realism' means is the movie takes place in a world that appears similar to our own. Notice the word 'APPEARS', it's very important.
Is Venom really that far fetched? Scarecrow had 'fear toxin'. There is no such thing as 'fear toxin', and even if such a weaponized hallucinagen was used you couldn't produce a concept as vague as fear. Hallucinations can vary based on the mood and temperment of the person having the hallucination. It's why some people talk to Scooby-Doo while on acid, and the rest freak out while being chased by the monsters. Scarecrow could no more control the reactions of his victims, than I could control someone else's dreams.
Microwave emitters, also a crock of sh**, and probably less realistic than a super-steroid. At least the concept of Venom can be boiled down to an understandible substance: "a really fast acting steroid compound", as opposed to a microwave emitter that doesn't effect people standing right next to it.
Consider within two films we've had fear toxin, a 'magnetic grapple gun', a magical non-burning eye, a microwave emitter and a Joker who is nigh-omniscent, I don't think it's out of the question that'll he'll include Venom.
