Dark Victory and War Games

Black Mask and Catwoman(if not Catwoman, than have Phantasm; Batman 3 will need at least one female, and it'll most likely be a villain, imo). And hints of the Flying Graysons coming to Gotham.

And also Tony Zucco. Just to clarify what's going to happen, just incase people still won't get it, lol.

I'd like that, I'd like a story influenced by Grant Morrison involving the aliens and stuff where he addressed the space monsters in the fifties, like in a movie Mad Hatter or Scarecrow or both do something to Batman to cause him to hallucinate and believe there are Space monsters and aliens fighting him

I say Dark Victory.. It can follow TDK perfectly. Two-Face isn't dead but he's locked up and the funeral was all just part of their plan to allow the people to keep hope, but the mob breaks him out.

In the chaos, Joker, Scarecrow, (maybe another villain), break out and you have the mob vs. the freaks war breaking out in Gotham.

You could even follow the hangman storyline in a way by having The Riddler leaving riddles/puzzles around the city trying to show the people what happened to their beloved Harvey Dent.

(A lot of incoherent thoughts in this post, but I'm just trying to say they should use elements of Dark Victory)

No. Robin.

I think that everyone who suggests The Long Halloween and Dark Victory hasnt read any other Batman comic books.
"HURPA DURP everyone is talking about these, they must be the best comics ever."
Overrated borefests. Both of them.

Its the same with Superman and Doomsday.
"Which villain do you want to see in the sequel?"
"DOOMSDAY man! Such a great villain."
Too bad he's a mindless monster that punches hard.

I never understood the wishful thinking that Two-Face is captured. I mean what kind of an hero Batman and James Gordon would be if they lock up a man and keep him a secret?

I voted "none above" because theres alot of comics that can be taken influence. They could go Dark Victory and show that the Freaks are the mob now, they can throw in some Morrison and have Batman face something thats possibly supernatural. (Oh and i'm not talking Morrison's modern work, just to clarify)

In the end Nolan has alot to choose. They can always keep the aspect of Batman believed to be a murderer and have the cops chase him, wheres Jim leaves clues and stuff behind for Batman.

Personally i'm in favor for something original which can be related to multiple comics, just like TDK was.

Your ignorance astounds me sometimes.
Ignorance? No, the word you re looking for is "opinion". I have read both of them and i find them overly long, boring and bland. Loeb's red herring antics in TKJ are stupid to say the least.
"HURPA DURP, crime drama batman story, it is by definition excellent."

No, it's ignorance. Opinion is you personally not liking the stories themselves. But insulting everyone else by saying you don't think they haven't read any other Batman comics just because they'd like TLH or DV to be used as a story influence is the height of ignorance.

Ok, fair point. But still, looking at this thread you'll notice the pattern. How come these two Batman stories get so many posts when they are mediocre at best? Its because they are overrated and most people havent read more than 5 other batman stories besides them.

Its the same thing with Doomsday as i explained above. He killed Superman in a big event, so he must be a great villain. But he's not.

i think theres plenty of stuff to mine from the 70s and 80s era stories (englehart, o'neil, etc)

Like DK they should go back to the early days of the Batman lore. And craft a story based on the old golden age books....with plenty of influence from the Batman books of today.

like the first Riddler book, or the Riddler's Non-Riddle crimes from the 60's where it shows the Riddler trying not to send clues of crimes, I'd go with Hush as well, these being if the Riddler is the villain.

If nto then I'd go with mixture of Dark Victory and War Games.

Well, the first Batman movie was meant to based on Englehart's book, he even wrote the script before redrafts by Sam Hamm.

I love that they were influenced by some pre-crisis comics for BB & TDK. For BB, they drew from the O'Neil/Adams Ra's al Ghul stuff. For TDK, they used the first two Joker stories from 1940. Not sure if they'll do it again though. I guess it depends on the villains. Some of the Riddler's earlier stories were enjoyable reads but I'm not sure they'll go with that characterization.

Bruce himself is framed for murder.

During the events before 3 begins,he stages a meeting with Yindel,as she was announced to be a member of The Task Force assigned to hunt Batman, should anymore trouble arise from him. Also because he is attracted to her,but she has that use as well. Ofcourse Riddler starts his mayhem and the team is forced into action to hunt both Batman and Riddler.

noooooooo!

boring

Dark Knight Returns

Mainly the Mutant Gang and the big power outage.

I think I remember Nolan saying something about looking at the script for TDK and realizing they hit hard on his first 2 appearances.

I think it was unintentional.

I LOVE TLH & DV I also am in love with Sales art though so it might make me slightly biassed wait... no it doesn't the stories are equally as good and they retain the mystery aspect to Batman stories. hush was great too. I love TLH & DV cause Batman is a loner in them and I love the Harvey Dent story stretching through them. I've read a lot of Batman stories more than 30 and those 2 are my favorites.

To me the over rated ones are year 1 & TDKR but its my opinion..

I hate the Catwoman prostitute angle as well...

No, they intentionally drew from his first appearances.

Jonathan Nolan and David Goyer are terrific writers and we really appreciated their time. Here’s what they had to tell us about their collaboration on “The Dark Knight”:

MoviesOnline: Not a lot of Killing Joke in this one.

DAVID GOYER: There’s a little bit of that dynamic between the Joker and Batman.

JONATHAN NOLAN: I think there’s a ton of it if you look at it from a slightly different perspective. What is the Joker trying to do in The Killing Joke? He’s trying to drive one of Batman’s allies crazy.

DAVID GOYER: Yeah, I think we definitely called that relationship from the Killing Joke.

MoviesOnline: What other comic books did you reference?

JONATHAN NOLAN: It’s easier to say what didn’t we reference? It felt like we read all of them. I grew up a Batman fan and David did too. So, there’s a lot of that already in there and when you embark on these things, DC sends you everything.

DAVID GOYER: Obviously there’s some of the Long Halloween in there. There’s some Miller stuff. I think in this one there’s less though than the first one. Some of the Denny O’Neil stuff. But it’s like yeah, we were looking at stuff from the 80s.

JONATHAN NOLAN: We got sort of midway through the process and went back and looked at the first appearance of the Joker in the books and found we had kind of wandered all the way back to it. There are a couple of moments in Batman 1 which are almost shot-for-shot moments that emerged in the film which felt very gratifying to have reverse engineered your way back to what felt like a starting point for the character.

DAVID GOYER: The truth is we read every single Joker and Two-Face appearance from all of them. Hundreds of them.

My bad I just remembered reading this article before TDK came out.. BUT and the way he answers makes it sound like he kind of unconsciously made that connection after going through so much reading then realized it after.

its a good interview though http://www.moviesonline.ca/movienews_15021.html

DAVID GOYER: The truth is we read every single Joker and Two-Face appearance from all of them. Hundreds of them.

And they ended up with Dent being Two-Face for....like....a day.

And then he died.

:O

Knightfall with Batman being physically broken, LH/DV style wise, Mask of the Phantasm characterization of Catwoman with Batman being blamed.

Just my two cents.

If you're asking me what I think should happen, I would say TDKR should be an outline. I like the idea of Batman going into hiding for some years, as not only does it open up some new story potential, but the passage of time will make for an easier transistion away from the lingering tragedy of TDK (real death of the Joker, on screen death of Harvey Dent).

But I don't think that's what will happen. I won't even try to predict. There have been the rumblings that Arkham Asylum itself will play a pivotal role, but that can't be anything but BS, as the Joker is locked away there, and it seems pretty clear that Nolan isn't interested in revisiting that character...what a shame.
