I will say though, the people who show up to an evening showing on a Thursday in spite of these critical reviews must really like these films for sure.

Honestly now that the First Class trilogy is over hopefully the focus shifts to a new group like how the original trilogy focus was on Wolverine, Professor X, Jean Grey, Rogue and Iceman(And slightly Storm, due to Halle influence to the Original Triilogy)

To me despite wanting more focus on the classic X-Men line up, but I understand why the characters who get focused on in this movie would be on Professor X, Magneto, Mystique and slightly Beast because they were the core since First Class this trilogy was centered around them, and it was setting up to the origin of the X-Men since First Class. But at the same time, even if they aren't going to be fully developed or even the main focus, I wish the Horsemen would at least had more presence in the movie(power wise, lines, etc) instead of just silent Horsemen (or if he did decide to do that, make them all silent walking displays of power protecting and killing for Apocalypse, instead of everyone but Magneto). I'm not going to compare it to the MCU because with all honesty, for the most part, Marvel movies and X-Men trilogy are 2 different animals. With Captain America, only 2 superheroes just got introduced to the MCU to be set up, but most of them were developed in 2-3 solo movies before, 9 total for all the heroes in the movie, with their relationship sets up so the Russo brothers can handle it. Whereas X-Men is an ensemble film handling multiple characters, but choosing certain characters to focus on with each trilogy. If anything, I would compare it to Guardians of the Galaxy, because Avengers had been set up with 5 different solo movies.

But now that that's, with the First Class trilogy is officially over, hopefully the focus in the next trilogy/future movies will be directed to the new trilogy will focus on those 5 members that Apocalypse set up (Cyclops, Jean, Nightcrawler, Storm and kind of Jubilee based on the deleted Mall scene),and this new universe that was birthed that from the First Class trilogy that is half Singerverse movie elements with more comic elements imbued in it. But If they should choose to focus/handle on someone handle from the previous FC trilogy to develop some more, I would love it to be Beast because his arc was kind of underutilized in the First Class, especially if it means it leads to a Beast who is a more classic comic Beast with some Kelsey Grammar Beast elements, if not bring Kelsey himself back.

Maybe the movies need a new director(but I wouldon't be happy if Bryan stays on for a producer/advisor role for future X-Men movies and the overall universe like he did with First Class), it definitely needs someone who isn't Simon Kinberg, because honestly the set up with Apocalypse is perfect, all it needs is the right people to take it farther and expand on the characters/new Singerverse X-Men, like the Russo brothers did with Captain America and now the Avengers, or Joss Wheddon did with each of the characters with the Avengers, etc.

I'd expect the plan is to move on with the newly introduced guys Cyclops, Jean, Storm and add in Beast for the long term core along with McAvoy's Xavier and Moira in the background. Then you have Nightcrawler and hopefully eventually the stragglers from this film Jubilee, Psylocke and Angel. Even if they don't start out as X-Men or even good guys. With the next decade jump they should catch up to Colossus, Kitty, Iceman and maybe a new origin for Rogue. And of course Wolverine is always out there. That's a lot of the key guys then in the current timeline at a reasonable age and plenty to work with, using whoever is required from that big overall roster.

Yeah, this franchise needs to start sticking to its guns a bit in terms of its main X-Men now that they have the opportunity to develop them, not try to have their cake and eat it too by trying to add more A-listers whilst simultaneously trying to develop those who haven't gotten their fair share. Scott, Jean, Kurt, Ororo, Jubilee, Hank, Betsy and Warren are a plenty good foundation to work with. They need to pick up the pieces from this film in the next one.

Ok guys just got back from my first official viewing of the movie in the theaters. Oscar Issac was absolutely slayworthy in this I'm sorry he really delivered throughout all the makeup I don't know why people aren't giving him his props. The movie was absolutely amazing I don't know what the critics were saying but I completely disagree it was such a fun movie with many emotional beats. The opening was EPIC and my only gripe is the Horseman just had no development after being recruited. Also the complete underuse of Storm and Jubilee but I'm sure after this movie they will pick up the slack with them. This movie can me very high hopes for what they can do with the franchise in the future, I still want Kinberg replaced though but im glad they finally gave us what we wanted in an XMen film and I couldn't be happier.

That article really angered me actually.

So now Bryan "regrets" shirking his directorial responsibilities by not finishing X-Men: The Last Stand? And now he wants to bring the original cast back together for another hurrah even though he wasted the opportunity he had with the actors in Days Of Future Past? :whatever::whatever::whatever:

I just wish he and Simon would go sit the hell down somewhere and stop touching things.

These people truly have no idea WHAT they're doing or where they want this franchise to go. There's no map, no plan. It's just a bunch of "Well, let's try this and see if they like it." They don't give a damn about continuity, or any kind of tonal consistency. FOX's X-Men films are made by people who don't actually care about the comics or characters. They are "executives" who just want ownership of a franchise but have no respect for the content.

It's gotten so silly now that the series has become a joke. Stop. Just...stop.

I don't want A-listers like Lawrence in B roles like Mystique which then distorts the balance of the film.

I meant A-list X-Men like Iceman, Kitty, Colossus etc haha. Not A-list actors but yes, we should be a bit more balanced.

Sinking suspicion solidified with this film.
Boot Kinberg from the writer's room.

Storm got some Orgins in this film and some backstory I mean looking at this film the new cast really didn't get delved into like the FC cast it was their conclusion to a trilogy and an introduction to the new ones. Seeing the movie for myself on the big screen I can see the focus will shift next film. All the friends I went with said it was a great film. It truly wasn't a bad film it just had some hiccups but this film gave me hope for the future.

Oh haha ok. I think they have to make sure everyone who was introduced in Apocalypse needs to get developed by the end of the sequel no matter who else they want to add.

Glad you liked it dude! I didn't expect to care about the future of these X-kids but I do.

Speak for yourself. :whatever:

So far two people, now three (me) want to see that happen versus two who don't. You can do a poll if you want, but chances are more would love to see it than those who don't if simply for nostalgic reasons.

Make it four! :ilv:

I want more movies with the best Cast ever(Original Cast). It's amazing on screen!

The only ones that I wouldn't want to see are Ian/Rebecca. They were amazing as Magneto/Mystique but a big part of me wanting to see the OT cast is to focus more on the X-Men especially now that Anna/Shawn/Ellen are older and Wolverine is done (unless a recast happens) so that could open for more role for Storm/Cyclops. I would also like to see Channing Tatum joins this cast! Like Rogue and Gambit finally in 1 film would just make me crazy! Make it happen Fox! :ilv:

I've never been one of the fans who needs the OT cast to return. Because I loved the FC-Apocalypse trilogy. But I think the biggest mistake fox made besides origins and last stand was making FC. Now I love FC but they boxed themselves in the moment they went into the past.

They really did.

And if Apocalypse doesn't even match DOFP box-office numbers... its time for Fox to rethink their plans if they really want the X-Men to just to stay in the 90s from now on.

I PRAY all you Americans (and Canadians?) going to see it for the first time enjoy it more than I did. As an X-Men lover I hated being disappointed so I hope nobody else has to go through that trauma :(

It wouldn't be a good day with Ruth and her Famke gif lmao. Always makes my day

Well sadly that won't be happening, no matter how bad people want this or try to make Apocalypse no numbers this movie does will make them do another ensemble movie with the OT cast though some people want it justs something that's not going to happen no matter how much say so it's just not going to happen though I would love to see a movie with the OT done right I'm very happy with what we have with these promising young stars. Regardless they are continuing forward with this new cast.

Yes I did quite enjoy it and I think the critics were blinding my judgment or me expecting it just to be something that's it's not. As I said I only had 2 big gripes about the movie, but the movie itself overall was great and everything I've asked for in an XMen film. I look forward to seeing the new cast shine on the next film and getting Jubilee as a full fledged member.

I saw it...

What a bizarre and wild ride with major highs and lows that made the trip quite bumpy but...

I have to say I really enjoyed it (possibly loved it? - I need to let it settle). It's nowhere near the storytelling of DOFP. Apocalypse has some major structural flaws. But honestly I don't care after what I just saw. I'll write a longer review eventually. I need to react and process first lol

High five, BeholdMe!

One last movie with the OT cast would be amazing, it was a huge draw for me seeing the OT cast in DoFP. If Apocalypse bombs they could continue with the OT cast, no complaints here.

I swear, I almost walked right back to the ticket counter to get a 9:45 show. I am ready to see this multiple times.

Same here I'm going back tomorrow though with the big crowds but I can't wait to see it again.

Yes they are a huge draw there the originals but even if the movie bombs which it won't they aren't gathering the OT back together for another movie sadly that ship has sailed.

I'm seeing it again Tuesday!

My theatre applauded at the end. Good vibes tonight.

I used to think Ruth was a troll, but now i can't imagine the boards without him?/her?

The strange thing about this movie is that the more I think about it intellectually after watching it, the more it drops in my rankings of X movies, but my frustrations just melt away when I watch it again.
