The Dark Knight Rises You Have My Permission To Lounge - Part 3

I am enjoying this trainwreck very much. This is what happens when you put Zack Snyder in charge of running your major, multi-year tentpole strategy. Between Snyder's mediocrity and his baffling behavior, plus the annoying nature of the more zealous Snyder fanboys, I am quite pleased at this outcome. It should be a humbling experience for Snyder and some of the fans, but I doubt it. Oh, well.

I hate admitting it but there is a certain schendereude. It is every negative idea you assumed about Snyder and this movie has come to pass as a reality.

I won't lie that I'm enjoying it too. I think it shows we reached a point where the GA won't eat products up on novelty alone (as far as superhero films are concerned), and that Snyder is unlikely to touch another comic book movie after JL. Those two things are already a win in the long run IMO. Now if WB would learn something from this too then it's a triple win, but that's unlikely IMO :csad:.

Unless Justice League somehow does great, then we're in for at least one more Snyder. Or will they cut him loose anyhow?

I would die laughing if he gets cut, goes on to direct The Fountainhead, and that gets hideous ratings on Rotten Tomatoes.

There's no way they can cut him loose this late in the game. They tool a gamble, put all their eggs in one basket and now they're stuck with him.

Also, the chances of JL being successful are now lower than the chances ASM3 had of getting the franchise back on track. WB has the exact same issues to deal with as Sony did with Spider-Man in 2014, only now it's far worse. They'll be lucky if JL makes about as much as BvS (and I'm assuming they'll cut budget on JL).

Oh God. Everytime I talk about JL I can't help but to be reminded of MovieBob's words on how JL feels like a threat. It really does feel like the fans are being punished on some level. I still don't think people realize what could happen to the genre if WB consistently puts out bad films.

I'd say it's a pretty safe bet that, no matter what happens with JL, Snyder's gone after that and won't be on JL2 other than as a producer -- even if JL1 somehow turns out to be a widely-acclaimed smash hit.

Not only will WB be desperate to cut ties with him as soon as they possibly can, but I feel like Snyder will have had enough by then (if he hasn't already after the BvS situation).

Good. He can make his own movies in his little bubble and I won't feel forced to check them out, like I do with these DC characters.

It is a shame how things have turned out, as these characters have so much potential and it is being wasted because they are in the wrong hands.

I was Team Cap all the way. Never switched sides. I could understand Stark's point of view, and there's one really hard hitting scene early in the movie that sets Tony on his path to thinking the way he does in this. But still Cap had the right idea. Heroes are not perfect, they can sometimes make mistakes, but they do far more good and the world is much safer with them being free to act when needed.

Yeah, I'm Team Cap as well. I asked because I've seen reviewers talk about how they went in rooting for one team, only to switch at certain points of the film.

That's why it's so entertaining for me. Fanboys ragging on you and other people for being cynical over Snyder's ability to get the job done. Snyder making increasing ignorant and arrogant statements. Then, not only does he justify your skepticism, he makes a movie even that's even worse than what you thought it'd be.

And to top it all off, the competition, the same one Snyder has been taken shots at, has a similar film to BvS, but that film is getting all the love and glory. LOL. I am feeling the schadenfreude for sure.

Do you think Josh Brollin should've been Batman? I liked Affleck, but I'm not sure I totally buy him as cynical and world weary. The gray hairpiece and stubble doesn't hide his rather youthful face. One look at Brolin and you can tell 'this guy has been through ****'. Brolin can effortlessly play someone teetering on the edge of losing it. I think I would actually buy murderman if Brolin was in the role.

Of course. He will always be my first choice for this type of version. Affleck even has a more traditional look to him.

Josh Brolin having been considered for Batman is kind of surprising giving how Snyder, Roven, and Deborah Snyder kept mentioning wanting their Batman to be a really big.

Nope, I don't think I like his voice for Batman.
Affleck's voice works for me, when it's not robotic.

I'd like to have your opinions:
Which cover do you like more?

It is not the reason that I like the cover, but it just occurred to me that there are probably some die-hard fans going crazy over Speedy Gonzalez and Road Runner beating the Flash in a race.

Brolin would've probably been the ideal Dark Knight Returns Batman, but I'd say Affleck is the better choice for Justice League Batman and can pass as young enough to play in his prime Batman in flashbacks too.

I will agree that I think Brolin is another good actor. I really liked Affleck in the one scene where he is dressing Clark Kent down and calls him "boy" or something to that effect. Brolin could sell that easier.

I am as not as enamored with Affleck as some around here. He was solid. Quite fine, which in a movie as awful as this is an accomplishment and something for fans to hang their hats on. But he did not really own the role, and there remains a lack of light in his eyes that Keaton and Bale had. I still see Ben Affleck when I look at him, but I can appreciate that he is doing certain things fans like better (feeling more at home in his Batsuit than a tuxedo, being more world weary and cynical of everyone). But there is still something missing for me.

"Don't believe everything you hear son" doesn't quite work as well with Affleck as it does Brolin. Ben looks 40 even with the grey hair. Clark is supposed to be like 35, I guess he looks younger. But Brolin does look like he's in his late 40s,

I never wanted Brolin for the role and still don't. I also never wanted Affleck prior to his casting, but I'm ultimately glad he got the role.

Nolan/WB made two mistakes.

1) Not casting Amy Adams as Rachel, for both films, when they had the chance. She helped with the Bale testing. Obviously the studio didn't see Amy as a good choice at the time but f**k them. Amy and Christians chemistry is undeniable. Would have saved her from two lesser films.

2) Not casting Bob Hoskins when they had the chance, as Oswald Cobblepot.

Rachel was a mistake in and off itself. Shoulda been Dent from the beginning.

Yes. Since they still needed a love interest they should have just made Bats and Dent gay.

Amy would have been a good Rachel, but Holmes and Gyllenhaal did a good enough job, IMO.
