The Dark Knight Rises You Have My Permission To Lounge - Part 3

There are deep, fundamental problems with the film that more R-rated content is not going to solve. It could make for a better movie but the bar is already set so low that it doesn't really matter. It's similar to the extended cut of Snyder's Watchmen, which while not good is better than BVS.

The extended edition of BvS trailer left me feeling empty.
I guess that's better than feeling enraged.

Enraged inspired me to come back to the board after being away for many months and enjoy commiserating with you fine people about my disappointment.

Empty might be worse, because I feel like I have nothing left to say about that dumpster fire of a movie. ;)

Nope.

Well, with that, there goes the one thing tempting me to take a look at the extended cut any time soon.

Just wow. I did not catch that in the trailer. Yep, I agree with everyone else. Before my interest was zero, but I planned to look up the Barbara Gordon scene on YouTube. That just saved me a search.

I was REEEEEALLY hoping for her to be Babs.

but you know how the saying goes...

( PS : I miss Californication. Ya know, the good Californication from season 1 to season 4. What's with showtime's pattern of making 4 great seasons of shows and the rest being stinky dog turd ? I still stuck around cause Hank Moody / David Duchovny is mah boi , but still... )

Well, Snyder's failure was a blessing in disguise. :D

as far as I'm concerned, season 4 is where it all ended. At least thats where I chose to stop watching and I consider it one of the best decisions I've ever made. I learned my lesson with Dexter.

Yeah, season 4 for both shows ended on kind of a perfect note.

You can't really end Dexter after season 4. You can stop watching it after that, because that was the height of the show, and you can use your imagination. But to me, that series should have ended with a sixth season. Not eight. They watered it down. The original showrunner left. It still had entertaining moments from season 5 to 8 but overall it was a mess. They didn't know how to end it. So they didn't really give it an ending, incase they can make money off of more seasons or spin-offs down the road. Everytime they had something in season 6 or 7, they abandoned it out of nowhere and cut it short for no reason other than...they couldn't write their way out of a paper bag.

Season 5 was filler once the first episode was over with. What they should have done was this:

Go right into the Brother Sam (Mos Def) storyline from season 6. You know, the one that showed character growth and gave Dexter a dilemma. They abandoned that halfway through season 6 and i say it should have been spread throughout season 5 until the last couple of episodes. They had Dexter's brother become Dexter's dark passenger but after that amazing reveal at the end of the episode where Brother Sam was killed, they only used him for one episode and played it for laughs. It should have lasted at least a few episodes, taking the fathers place in that role. It should have led to Dexter going evil, killing LaGuerta in the season 5 (not 6) finale. And THAT is when Debra finds out who Dexter really is. Not with that predictable, cliche, see it from a mile away twist that involved Tom Hanks' son. The villains in seasons 5, 6 and 7 were so random. They needed to make Dexter the villain with his dead brother in his ear. There's no way to top Trinity, so don't try. Get away from the formula.

I would have sprinkled this season with Hannah in a similar way to season 7 but the idea would be to have Dexter torn between the dark side (Hannah who understands that side of him) and Brother Sam (who is trying to save Dexter's soul). Sam is murdered by somebody connected to Hannah. Dex learns that Hannah's not actually behind it but proceeds to go on a rampage with the Ice Truck Killer constantly telling him what he wants to hear. Quinn and LaGuerta would be suspicious of Dexter. It leads to them investigating the death of Brother Sam and the dude Dex drowned that night. Quinn backs out last second because of Deb but loses her anyway. This leads to LaGuerta's death like i said, when she doesn't back down from trying to arrest him. Deb walks in on the scene of the crime. Cliffhanger (pretty close to what actually happened. Maybe it still takes place in a church).

This would have set up the final season. This is so simple and logical. How do you screw this up!? The final season (season 6) should have been the hunt for Dexter with Debra torn between helping Dexter get away and turning him in/executing her brother. Batista, Masuka, everyone should have found out and picked sides. Every character is put in a bad position. Dexter begins to fall in love with Hannah, and sees who she truly is, which is one of the only things they were doing right in the final two seasons. She helps him get rid of his dark passenger completely.

The finale would be what the original showrunner intended. Dexter on a table this time. Lethal injection. Cameos with all of his past victims (Doaks, Lila, Miguel, Trinity and more such as Rita/Brother Sam) all returning. Hannah leaves with Harrison beforehand to live a happier life.

Exactly! :sly:

Seriously though, I am unaware of any other movie's most ardent critics and defenders sticking around in a lounge here 4 years later.... must be further proof TDKR is great. :oldrazz:

At least this lounge is.

Thank Snyder for that. We need a place to vent our shared dismay.

this thread is like a safe haven for people of sound mind

it feels good to know there are still people who won't blindly accept what WB is currently selling

It's so funny to me how people go out of their way to convince themselves that they want more of this Batman. Or that this one in BvS was acceptable. They're okay with him being a moron who attacks his own tracker instead of patiently waiting for those thugs to bring the kryptonite to their destination. They want him to be pigheaded, and sadistic. The argument comes down to "it's okay dude, he'll go back to classic Batman in the next one." which might be true but it reeks of "It's no big deal! This is a Superman who's figuring things out! He'll be fully formed in the next one!". Sound familiar doesn't it? Blind faith.

Will they be saying the same thing after Justice League? "Wait until THE BATMAN!"

We know Suicide Squad will probably have Bats operating in a way that feels familiar to us. But is that because of his limited screen-time, or because he's saving Harley Quinn in a flashback before Superman arrived/Jason Todd was killed? Will Snyder contradict everything even if Ayer shows Batman as a changed man in present day?

I feel like those posters over in that forum are like the Arkham Asylum of this website, and we're Jim Gordon or Batman always trying to stay away from that god forsaken nuthouse. But we do stick our heads in there every once in a while to see if anything has changed or because a new rumor about one of the crazies (one of Snyders movies) has been lurking around.

Now they're posting memes about Snyder being a god of film-making. I seriously question the mental health and age of some of those folks. Maybe that sounds snooty of me to say, but it's quite baffling when some of those guys defend Luthor, defend Batman's behavior, celebrate Snyder's impulse to act like a teenager and defend Cavill's acting as if THAT version of Superman should be allowed to lead his own film. There are good posters in there but some of the crazies really shine.

It's because their identity is tied to these movies. When people attack them, they are attacking their very identities. Hence the lashing out, tinfoil hat conspiracies and delusion.

Season 5 should've also ended with deb actually catching dexter instead of that behind-the-curtain bs

Superman will appear in Supergirl. Looks like we may finally have Superman as he should be.

Aw, don't blame Routh for a questionable script and Singer's overly nostalgic vision.

Fact is, Routh was a decent actor, pretty charismatic and effective in the role. Plus, when he bulks up in size, he looks even better for the part.

I would have happily taken a Routh sequel around 2009/2010.
