He praised Snyder too, for being a "fanboy" in one interview I saw. But who knows what he really thought of the movie. Maybe Jett :oldrazz:
Yeah. A fanboy who doesn't read normal comic books. Only those with sex and violence. A fanboy who has a band of comic book 'dorks' that pleaded him to make Batman shoot a guy in the head.

I was just watching chunks of the flick and something just hit me: what if Luthor didn't force Superman to face Batman? Was Bats gonna stand there with the batsignal on all night long? Because Supes wasn't interested in facing him otherwise.

How awkward would that have been.

Honestly, the idea of that going on for 2 hours would be PHENOMENAL! The funniest goddamn superhero movie ever. Shot from different angles. One take, for 2 hours. Bats groaning every once in a while. He packed a sandwich, so he eats that at one point. Gordon comes up to the roof and it's of course...you called it...J.K Simmons. But he's doing his J.J act, cussing that motherf***er out for a solid 5 minutes. Next is Bullock, played by Michael Madsen. He has a smoke and a drink but Bats kills him out of annoyance. Takes his booze though. Washes down that sandwich. Tasty beverage he says, in the robo-voice. More staring at the sky. Greatest movie ever.

To be fair Supes did threaten him with "next time they shine your light, don't go to it". That was I guess the logic of Batman lighting the signal to start the fight. I don't really know what Supes would've done had Luthor not forced his hand. That's an interesting point.

But then again Supes' apparent beef with Batman is one of the many things that felt very thin and tacked on in this movie.

I think a bigger question might be...how does Lex know that the Bat signal being lit= Batman is ready to face Superman???

I guess without Luthor influencing him, Superman would have gone to Batman and the fight would have gone approximately the same way (I can't think of a reason for it to differ drastically) and then... Batman would have stabbed Superman to death? Because Superman would have had no reason to call out "Martha!", and Lois likely wouldn't have known about the fight and shown up to do anything...

Yeah but he said next time the police throw on the bat signal, don't go to it. That's all. So if Superman sees the bat signal, he's just assuming Batman won't show up or maybe he will. He has no idea. So was Superman just like "Hmm ill go take a looksie, see if this bat-tard is gonna defy me."

^ I actually feel like he'd do exactly that, if he weren't busy with more pressing matters.

It's weird Superman even mentions the signal since it is never seen or referenced prior to that. The movie assumes the audiences already knows Batman has a signal that beckons him.

Superman was initially gonna reason with Bats even with Martha's life on the line. So I don't see him actually fighting Batman without it. Why would he?

He would probably scowl at him again and then fly away. Forcing Batman to shoot the K spear at him with his Batplane or something.

Oh ****. I think Luthor just saved Superman's life.

Supes' issues with some Bat-vigilante just seem kind of low on his list of priorities given everything he's going through with struggling to be the world's hero. It just didn't feel that connected to Superman's main story in the film.

Maybe some of the deleted material will help flesh that out a bit in the extended cut.

Oh yeah, I do think it's likely he would've tried to reason with him first. But the result would probably be the same, him getting drawn into a fight. The one thought I had would be if Supes actually did try to make good on his "consider this mercy" threat and go into the fight with the intent to injure, but not kill Batman.

While waiting, he pulls out his phone messaging Wonder Woman.
"IT IS YOU"
"WHO ARE YOU?"
"...ARE YOU WITH SUPERMAN, DID HE GET MY MESSAGE?"

He was gonna bring Luthor in without any injury after he personally threw Lois Lane off the building. We know he cares about Lois more than anybody in the world.

So why would he try to harm Batman who didn't do anything as insidious?

But then again, he turns the terrorist who had a gun on Lois into mush.

Man, this guy is so inconsistently written.

Man, Cavil is just awful in the Martha scene. I am getting flashes of Hayden Christinsen.

I agree with the inconsistent part (and the terrorist thing), but I definitely think the next meeting between them was always going to end in a fight. They're consistently both overly aggressive morons after all, and they both threatened the **** out of each other the first time.

Why I take issue with the whole "my parents taught me a different lesson" speech from Batman.

It doesn't reconcile with a hardened, past his prime Batman to still be festering nihilistic outrage about his parents "dying in the gutter for no reason at all" because he should've dealt with it and turned that emotion into a positive mission of justice in his growth period. Crying about how his parents taught him "...the world only makes sense when you force it to" in his middle ages seems to negate all mental development he's ever had and revert him to the child he was at their death.

A very bad wrong headed portrayal of the world's greatest detective.

Critics score drop for BvS suddenly made me think of this cover.

Batman: "Is she with you?"

Me: "I think she's with you Batman since you guys already met..."

Yeah Batfleck is a moron in the hands of Snyder.

Affleck delivers that line with those puppy dog eyes. That's why I keep saying he got lazy playing Batman. It's like Bruce Wayne in a cowl, just as much as Kilmer or Clooney. That jawline and suit really helps distract people from a very ordinary Bat-performance imo. Could also be the direction.

I think Affleck was fine as Batman. Not amazing, but overall pretty good. The big surprise for me was how much I actually enjoyed him as Bruce. He might be my second favorite Bruce behind Bale for me, which I never expected to say. With better writing I think he could be a great overall package.

The one thing I'll say is for people who praise Batfleck but throw Snyder's take on the character under the bus...I think Affleck is just as much to blame, in the sense that I think he's just as much of a hard-on for TDKR/Miller Batman as Snyder does and that's a big part of why he signed onto the project. People talk about how Affleck is such a big Batman fan and such, but just like Snyder I only ever really have ever heard him talk about TDKR when it comes to the comics. Pretty sure Kevin Smith has said that he was really into that book in the 90s, and one of the reasons he did Daredevil was because of Frank Miller's run and because he figured there wouldn't be another Batman movie. Notice also how Affleck said that he wouldn't have wanted to play the role if it was a more "up the middle" take on the character like Bale's.

So while I think Affleck is well cast in the role and I'm looking for to seeing him get to build on his portrayal in future movies, I'm not gonna say he just had the misfortune of having to play Snyder's extreme version of the character. I think that is very much what attracted him to the role in the first place.

Yep, those damn eyes were so inconsistent. One moment they'd look right, others I just saw Affleck eyes.

I don't think Batfleck will hold up over time (I don't think he holds up now). The novelty of a comic accurate suit isn't enough.

I'll need to see more movies with him before I can make that call. If BvS was a one and done outing as Batman, I'd agree, but as it stands he's still probably going to have the longest tenure in the cape and cowl. So he's still got a lot of opportunity to own the role and, hopefully, progress the character past this ugly stage we witnessed in BvS.
