SIDENOTE: I'm one of the few who think that instantly infamous Martha moment could have really played with a stronger context/script/director.

I have my suspicions about that being the case too titan. It's an idea that I think is sitting right on that razor's edge between dumb and brilliant, and which way it falls depends entirely on the execution.

I'll say this though, I think Affleck did his best to sell the moment. I believed his performance there.

The idea behind it is solid. That in that moment Bruce would realize this unknowable alien is really a man with a family, not dissimilar to him. It could have been an emotionally resonant scene but it required delicate hands and it ended up being the most abrupt, contrived about face I may have ever seen in a film like this.

Part of the problem, I think, is Batman's lethality. Imagine if Batfleck wasn't so murderous but was still more brutal and cynical and that his arc was about him debating if he should finally cross the line and kill Superman, his justification being that he isn't a man at all. So he'd get down to the line with Superman at his mercy and then finally realizes he can't go through with it after recognizing the humanity in Clark. And Clark's humanity would be the thing that triggers Bruce into reclaiming his own. That's the kind of thing you hinge the fulcrum of a character arc on.

^ Exactly, BatLobster. Superman had a few moments like that, in which he could have simply talked to Batman.

"Bruce, you don't understand".
*Batman walks right up to Superman's face*
"I understa--"
*Superman SHOVES Batman away!*

Why?! It should have gone like...

"Bruce, you don't understand".
*Batman walks right up to Superman's face*
"I understa--"
*Superman grabs Batman, covers his mouth*
"Seriously, I don't want to fight you... right now. Luthor's behind all this and he's going to kill a woman named Martha Kent".
*muffled*
"M...Maaartha?"

:p

:lmao:

I enjoyed this post way more than I should have.

It's true. The fight makes NO FREAKING SENSE. It's a very contrived scenario that exists so that the movie can deliver on it's damn title. Superman is reduced to an idiot.

Batman and Superman were reduced to idiots in that movie.

I can't believe there is a quote on the internet of Chris Terrio calling it the smartest script he worked on. What script is it he spoke of?

More Snyder juicy bits:

Everyone says that about [Christopher Nolan’s] Batman Begins. ”Batman’s dark.” I’m like, okay, ”No, Batman’s cool.” He gets to go to a Tibetan monastery and be trained by ninjas. Okay? I want to do that. But he doesn’t, like, get raped in prison. That could happen in my movie. If you want to talk about dark, that’s how that would go.

:hehe:

When Superman gives that smug look, i hate Batman's reaction. He turns into the wuss. He gives the "oh nooo please don't!" look. Even his hands go up like "nooo man, wait, waaaaaait!!! don't be mad!!" It lasts like 3 seconds tops, but it doesn't feel like a thing Batman would do. Maybe it's just me. It's ABSOLUTELY a nitpick, but i had to say it.

You know, I see what you're saying but actually don't mind that part. Bruce/Batman is such a hulking brute in this movie that I kind of liked seeing him vulnerable and scared just for a second...reminded me that he's a human being under there.

Batlobster, what did you think the rest of the movie, this time? After the showdown.

Eh...lol. The warehouse fight is still pretty coo. I like the joke with Alfred where Bruce asks what's going on out there and Alfred's perfectly quips "How best to describe it..."

Basically from the "I'm a friend of your son's" moment on, the movie completely switches tones. The movie basically wants to throw itself a "DC Universe has arrived!" party at this point, get the Trinity together and have a big firework CG display.

I don't HATE it, it's entertaining enough to watch if you just turn off your brain. I enjoy the Trinity moment and Wonder Woman's theme. Like Man of Steel's climax though, it gets a bit numbing after a while because my emotional investment just isn't there. And to me, Supes' sacrifice feels so sudden and unearned.

There are some pretty visuals to look at here and there, but even then, as far as superhero action goes this was nothing too special.

If I'm being objective as I can, I really see no way I could've honestly recommended this film to anyone that isn't already a geek for this stuff. Even if I would've liked to, if only to have more people to talk about the movie with. It's no wonder this thing unperformed. A film this incoherent (both in terms of story and tone) had no chance of catching on with casual moviegoers.

from that same article:

I had a buddy who tried getting me into ”normal” comic books, but I was all like, ”No one is having sex or killing each other. This isn’t really doing it for me.” I was a little broken, that way. So when Watchmen came along, I was, ”This is more my scene.”

I want to post this in the JL board so badly just to see what would happen

So, is the JL board like another world where everyone's pretending everything's just fine and dandy? I'm afraid to go and look.

A real comic book guy that one is. :o

With this quote, he finally confirmed what Tacit Ronin repeatedly stated about him reading only some graphic novels and calls himself a "comic book guy".

So...no one on the internet said it yet? I think it needs to be said.

Justice League Part One: Electric Boogaloo

:oldrazz:

What he said about Batman Begins was unbelievable. Him and Michael Bay have to be related. Zack is the angsty brother.

First killing off Jimmy Olsen in a cameo was fun. Now Batman should get raped.

The guy is off the planet. This is the director heading up JL. Doesn't that notion just fill you with confidence.

To wipe the bad taste of Snyder's idiocy off our mouths, Winter Soldier vs Spider-man.

Rejoice.

"You have a metal arm? That's so cool, dude". Just wait til he meets Doc Ock.

Civil War looks glorious.

Isn't Bucky's metal arm portrayed as really powerful? Even Cap would steer clear of that arm. For Spidey to grab it so casually is a big deal.

Getting pretty f'n excited for Civil War. Watching interviews with the Russo Bros, the way they speak about this stuff. The fact that Spidey is their favorite of all-time. Or at least it is for one of them.

Versus a Zack Snyder interview where it's the equivalent of watching a high school jock trying to sound like the most intelligent student in the class.

The footage looks great.

he can lift over 10 tons in the comics so it's not all that surprising
