Hey guys I'd like to here thoughts some you might have about this MOS video.

I never wanted Bale back. As much as I loved that Batman, I preferred it to exist in its own continuity with a self-contained story that had a definitive ending. It sets it apart and retains a level of integrity as a piece of triptych cinema. I wanted something different for the DCEU, and for the most part I got it. I liked Affleck in the role but without good writing and directing behind him he's yet to prove himself. He's the kind of actor that's only as good as the material he's working with.

Bale said he would be seeing BvS with his kid. I wonder if he'll like this Batman. It's possible since he said if it was up to him, he would do a version that was really twisted. I can't imagine him liking the movie overall, but who knows.

I believe in my heart that Christian would still be playing this character if Nolan and Warner Brothers were ok with it. He loves Batman. I'm super happy knowing that Nolan didn't give in. I wonder if it was because he was that stubborn, or did he just know it wouldn't work with Snyder?? I'm curious if he would have gave it a shot if MOS did better critically/commercially, and was directed by one of his first few choices. Like an Aronofsky, Reeves. A director like that.

Does it worry anyone, as Bat fans, that Afflecks movie might not be the hit everyone expects it to be? If it does average like MOS (surely it will do better than BvS), where does the franchise go? Reboot after a 5 year break? Young Batman, different cast, director? Do they ask Bale to come back, even for a Batman Beyond with JGL (not like the general audience knows who Terry McGinnis is anyway...the concept is already left-field)? Ben's film might be a straight up horror movie. Arkham Asylum maybe? Could be a recipe for success (great concept, full of rogues, good director, visuals, no Snyder) or a recipe for disaster (cramming characters left and right, Geoff Johns, no more excitement due to poor Justice League movie). If that fails, bye bye horror style Batman. Tone gets a bit lighter like B:TAS.

Too bad Jonah Nolan didn't write/direct a Catwoman prequel. Or a JGL/Bale sequel. It would have happened if WB weren't so determined to compete with Marvel.

I think Nolan was just being smart about it. It's a no-win situation for him. He went out of his way with Rises to make it clear that it was the end of his story, both with the way the movie itself was delivered and him telling the press as much repeatedly. If he suddenly did a 180 and gave his seal of approval for them to pull Bale/Bruce out of retirement and parade him out for more movies then he looks like a sellout and he's immediately compromised the integrity of his trilogy. On top of that, if the movie sucks then it also reflects badly on him for allowing it to happen. It just creates more problems for him than it's worth, especially considering he just wants to move on with his career and focus on his filmmaking.

However, all of that being said...if the DCEU implodes and down the line Nolan felt he had one more story to tell...I'd go into 2008-levels of hype. :yay:

Not sure if I can link it due to the language, but has anyone seen Gerry Conway's tweets to and about Snyder?

Gerry Conway said:
F*** you, Zack Snyder.

The real mystery is why Warners gave him their whole superhero franchise after "Watchmen" and "Sucker Punch" flopped

I love Gerry Conway even more now

WB's like

It is definitely a good thing that Nolan's and Bale's Batman movies ended. I don't want to think about what would have happened if Zack got his hands on them. The quality would have dropped down so much and the characters and world that they created would not be looked at in the same light or be held in as high regard as they are. That would have been so, so sad.

You know, I do find it discouraging that just 4 years after Nolan, Bats is back to a film with a rotten rating below 30%. Makes me shiver thinking what else is in store.

This is DC's posterboy, nevertheless. The character WB has faith in the most. Just what does that say about the rest?

To be fair, Bats still got good reviews and Superman was also in the title. At this point, WB proves to us over and over that they don't know squat (that ones for you Zack) about Superman. They don't care. Nobody should expect another Superman movie for at least a decade after Cavill ends his run.

Unfortunately Suicide Squad barely has anything to do with Justice League. So its success means nothing. Just means Ayer is good at what he does. We have to wait until Wonder Woman to see if the universe is a joke, with or without Sack Snyder.

It does crack me up, to think WB put all of their trust in the hands of Geoff Johns and Zack Snyder. And those two jabronies were baffled by the criticism?? Hilarious. DC is doomed at Warner Brothers. Batman is also doomed over there, without somebody who is passionate about the character enough to put their foot down. I am NOT convinced that Affleck knows what he's doing. Good director or not. We looked at Terrio like "he's a good writer right? Should be better than Goyer right?". Then we looked at Snyder like "this should be better than MOS right? Zack loves batman more, he's a comic book guy right?".

Wrong.

Yeah, I don't buy the Affleck hype either. At the end of the day he still seemed fine with Snyder's decisions and defended the film's poor critical reception. Not sure I can trust anything DCEU related at the moment, Suicide Squad being the only exception.

You know, now that I think of it, this is actually WB's second attempt to compete with Disney by going dark. Back in the 90's WB constantly tried to look for ways to compete with the Disney Animated Classics. At one point I believe they suggested to make more "mature films", which resulted in Mask of the Phantasm getting a last minute theatrical release. The same could be said about The Iron Giant to a certain extent since it had a lot of Cold War themes.

Thing is that in MOTP's case it actually worked, it was just marketed poorly (or rather not marketed at all).

Yeah Suicide Squad is the wildcard. The Guardians of this DCEU.

I hope Leto blows us away. I want to leave the cinema wanting another Joker-Batman confrontation. Not "once was enough".

Dumb video. Every voice in that video was annoying. Weak points all around. "People thought there was too much action? Well, Avengers and Cap had just as much action! So you should hate those movies too!" Give me a break. MOS was relentless and repetitive when it happened. How many times can a building fall down, or a ship falls into a building, a plane explodes, a superhero gets launched into a building or a gas station. It goes on forever.

And yes there was character development, just not enough of it, and it wasn't sold well enough by the two actors playing young Clark and adult Clark (Henry). Snyder never stayed on a character for too long. Way too anxious to get to the next action sequence. "The first half of the movie was all character development!". Umm really? I guess I watched a different film. It doesn't help when most of the characters are there to tell Kal-El or the audience what he's feeling, what he should do, how the world will react to him.

Jonathan is nothing more than a over-protective nut who wants his family to hide in a little bubble, be selfish don't save 20 kids cuz u might get caught, don't punch back no matter how much you get picked on cuz u might get caught. OK so good advice dad. Make your alien kid feel isolated. He'll want to grow up, hide in some farm area where nobody can bother him just like his father who just stays on the farm and keeps to himself. Some people want to experience more. Martha (why did you say that name!!?) and Jonathan (hero cake) Kent constantly tell their son that the world doesn't deserve him. That they never wanted the world to have him. That's a selfish attitude when they're aware of Clarks power and his potential to save lives. They found this baby and wanted him to live an isolated existence. Yes they care for him but it's over the top. No wonder he doesn't smile.

Wow. X-MEN: APOCALYPSE review embargo lifts next Monday. That's some confidence, Fox. Well-played.

I don't trust it. That movie looks like garbage. That cast and crew has potential though.

I'm not surprised. Singer has yet to direct a bad X-Men film, and the First Class trilogy has been great so far.

MCU fans and comic purists think the Cap trilogy is the one to surpass TDKT, but I think the first Class trilogy is the one franchise that could come even remotely close.

We're lucky Zack Snyder did not choose to have a Yeti have sex with a woman and impregnating her in this movie.
Wonder what Gerry Conway thinks of that story.

Good

Big fan of Singer's X-Men movies. I have high hopes for Apocalypse. In all honestly I think the only dud this year will be BvS. Even Suicide Squad is looking promising. Benefits of having a good director.

First Class was OK at best. Not really my thing. The first Singer X-Men was average, X2 was better but I wouldn't call it fantastic. DoFP is the best one for my money, but it lacked originality and I thought it was a cheap gimmick to use that movie to wipe the slate clean. It made every previous film worthless, especially 2013's Wolverine. If I was James Mangold I would have been pissed because only one year later there's a movie that makes his look like a waste of time/money.

Future Past had a great final scene. Well executed, emotional, with shades of Inception. I would say borderline rip-off but it did the trick. Problem is, I can't really revisit that scene or film because of the gimmick. "Ta-daa! Now we can erase the mistakes and do another 7 movies cuz u know..we're starting from scratch! Yay! More money!"

Love Oscar Isaac and I like Sophie Turner in Game of Thrones but sorry guys...they look as bad as anything in BvS in every trailer I've seen.

Speaking of Oscar Isaac, I finally just saw Ex Machina. I know I'm late to the party here, but maaan that was a great movie. Thoroughly thoroughly enjoyed it.

It made it into my top 10 last year.

Was good, but predictable. I called it from the beginning. Thing is, it was executed well so it didn't disappoint. Made my top 20 last year but not the top 10.

For me, I think both FC and Cap1 are mediocre to bad. The only thing I really like in them is their period settings, and Fassbender (and to a lesser extent, McAvoy) and Chris Evans.

TWS, DoFP and CW, though... great movies.

Same here. X:A doesn't look near as good as DoFP to me (Lawrence especially seems to be in "**** this" mode) but I'm yet to be let down by Singer's X-Men.

Just came out of Civil War. The Russos really delivered  definitely one of the better MCU films. Simply brilliant across the board.
