The Dark Knight Rises You Have My Permission To Lounge - Part 5

My friends and i got a little drunk the other night and pretty much went off on the new Bat-verse. Everyone came to the conclusion that everything now is...extremely forced. It's like Affleck is forcing the grumpy and comes off one-dimensional because of it. Yet he's not given much to work with. Leto doesn't have much to work with, and yet his acting and look screams "look at me i'm crazy!" in almost every scene. He's like the Dean Ambrose of the DCEU. And Ledger was like the Psycho Sid.

The darkness is forced. Serious scenes, feel forced. They're not earning it like Nolan's films. Now the lighter side comes into Justice League and The Flash, yet it feels....forced.

Wonder Woman. That's a solid trailer. But who else gets the feeling that this whole movie is going to beat us over the head with "well, where i'm from, that's called SLAAAVERY!".

It's like from one scene to the next, they're trying too hard to top Nolan in the dark/crazy department....then the next thing you know they're trying too hard to be so different that it doesn't feel natural when they present a character/scenario that is supposed to be fresh.

Whether it's real or people jumping on a bandwagon, i guess that's not for me to decide, but you never had actors/filmmakers coming out to say that one of the Nolan films was a piece of s**t.

You're correct. The entire DCEU can be distilled into one word: forced.

The slavery line was extremely stupid. Because she comes from a warrior society. She should be well aware of the fact that there are people that only exist to take orders from other people.

all we can hope for is that we somehow get a good movie or two out of this when its all said and done, and we've gotten to the point where that could be considered quite a feat.

I know I keep saying this and I have nothing to really base it off of, but Ben's solo film remains my sole source of hope in regards to any of these movies.

Please be good.

Affleck is a competent director, but his casting of Joe Manganiello as the lead villain doesn't instill me with confidence. Also there's nothing stopping WB from hacking Ben's movie to bits in the editing room like they did with SS, especially now that mess has turned a decent profit.

I think Affleck is in the same exalted position in WB as Eastwood and Nolan are. They won't dare tinker with his films. He has the final say. I hope.

Yeah hopefully the fact that he has done so well for them with The Town and Argo can keep him from that sort of treatment. Really like the trailer for his new film too. I just like him better as a director than as an actor. I actually think Casey is a better actor, but have loved all 3 of Ben's films as director.

And nobody directs Ben better than Ben. He has no allusions about his acting prowess. He understands his pros and cons. Hopefully we get a better performance from him than in BvS.

I completely agree with that. Though Fincher cast him very well in Gone Girl and I'm very curious to see what Gavin O'Connor gets out of him in "The Accountant"

They're called illusions, Michael.

As an actor Affleck is only as good as the director he's with.

Which is a reason to worry about Batman in JL.

I don't imagine he'll be better or worse than he was in BVS. Though hopefully there will be more shades to the character than just rage. And that his role in the story makes more sense. But I'm not holding my breath.

So we meet again puzzle suit...

What the hell is with the Night Owl goggles?

At least it's a more well-designed puzzle suit and not his primary Batsuit.

I've never minded the armored look so this is fine with me, but not digging the goggles or cowl. As far as the rest of the suit goes though, I honestly don't think it's any better or worse than the TDK/R suit in terms of design. Sure you don't get the puzzle legs here, but on the flip side it looks like he's wearing chaps.

I never really had a problem with the TDK suit so I definitely don't have a problem with this, especially since it doesn't seem to be a permanent fixture in these films (like the BVS armor suit).

It looks perfectly fine to me, except for the goggles maybe, but they are not awful.

After all that whining and complaining about busy batsuits and how DCEU was gonna get things right...they go right back to the busy batsuit. And only on the second film too. God knows what Affleck is gonna pull.
