The Dark Knight Rises You Have My Permission To Lounge - Part 7

It obviously didn't have as much action as you'd expect for a film of the genre, but what little it did have served it's purpose.

The only real drawback for me with Logan was it could have used a stronger villain. Donald Pierce was actually fairly entertaining, but kind of took a back seat to Dr. Rice by the end of the film. He actually reminded me a lot of Kilmer's Doc Holiday from Tombstone.

Too depressing? Not enough action? There's tons of laugh out loud moments and brutal action..

Do they only watch action movies with wall to wall action and quips every minute ?

Just seems like a criticism you would hear from somebody who mainly watches one genre. I would find it more fair if they said they didn't like this and that about the details of the film rather something generic like "not enough action !"

It's probably the Bayformers/Fast and The Furious types that didn't "get" the film, lol.

That's what I'm thinking. I can't take people like that seriously lol.

Your issues with the villain or my small problem with X-23 in the third act. Those are fair criticisms even if someone disagrees. But I roll my eyes when it sounds like a person doesn't know anything about screenwriting, pacing, or how action should only serve the story. Not everyone has an interest in that but it does make me laugh when I hear a thoughtless statement like too much violence! Not enough action ! Too depressing ! It's like well, tell me more man! WHY do you think it's too violent and WHY would less violence make that scene more impactful?

Like for me, the violence never took me out of the film.

Totally agree, Shauner. I was very curious before seeing it; just how violent it was going to be. And yes, it was shocking at times, but in a good way. It served the purpose to the story perfectly and I felt it was 100% justified.

The Batman must be rated R. Gordon should drop F bombs liberally, just like professor X did in Logan. It would be appropriate for Batman to drop from bombs in tense situations too. Alfred should make more blatant sex jokes. More sexuality from Catwoman including nudity and explicit sex scenes between Bat and Cat.

Some people at work didn't like Logan. They said it was depressing and didn't enough action scenes.

I know it's anecdotal, but it seems my prediction may be true. It's not a film for everyone.

"Some people" sound like idiots.

Well, I'd be up for some cat and bat action though :)

I want to see Batman calling people dense and ******ed

what a dream it would be

Imagine R rated Joker? Amazing. I wanna see the Nazi chick from TDKR with the swastika nipples. You can also recreate the scene in TDKR where Joker gasses all the audience in the Letterman show without softening it up.

There are other benefits. A higher rating means a lower budget and a smaller scale. Giving us the down and dirty, intimate detective story that doesn't blow out into a blockbuster frenzy in the third act.

Apparently some BvS fanboys think that film is glorious and TDK has bad cinematography and pacing. Huh! The more you know!

Hey, when they have to prove their film/universe is great, they are willing to talk sh** about anything that was great in the past. Same thing happened with the TASM movies.

TDK does have some wonky pacing glitches. But they are nothing compared to the pacing swamp that is BvS.

So anyone think there's a chance Logan might get an Oscar nomination? Particularly Best Picture, Best Actor (Jackman), Best Supporting Actor (Stewart), and Actress (Keen). Honestly, I'm starting to come around on it.

I think the first two are possible. If you think about it, it has all the elements for an Oscar pick: an actor who disappears into the role (aesthetically and performance-wise), novelty (R rated, character drama), and cultural impact (Jackman's last role, the border wall metaphor). There might be a chance.

I know TDK never got nominated for Best Picture, but that was a decade ago. Plus they got so much backlash for that the Oscars changed their nominee numbers to 10 so that more commercialized films get nominated.

Zero chance. Especially this early in the year when films around this time get ignored by the Academy.

There are some world-class gymnasts in the DCEU sections, with all the cartwheeling and jumping through hoops they try to do in order rationalise terrible creative decisions.

Yesterday I read that Jimmy Olsen doesn't work as a character because, realistically, a young adult fanboy-ing over Superman wasn't relatable.

I think that's the biggest variable it has going against it. Even bigger than the fact it's a superhero film.

Yeah. The early release date is a big obstacle. I would love for it to happen though. Jackman and Stewart were superb. They were good performances period. Not just good for a superhero movie performance.

So, Iron Fist looks like Marvel's first critical flop. It had to happen eventually.

Honestly, the Netflix shows were slipping for a while now.

Daredevil Season 1 was amazing, then Season 2 got some of the Iron Man 2 treatment. Jessica Jones was off to a great start, but it didn't need to be 13 episodes. Same thing with Luke Cage.

"Some people" sound like idiots.

It is a very dark, sad film. But it earns it. It didn't feel tonally forced, it felt adult in a way few superhero films are. That being said, it is a very intense experience and I can't begrudge a person for not wanting go see it if they don't want to go through that. Some people are more sensitive, for whatever reason. A friend of mine just recently became a father and is going through some other life altering things. He said he wasn't in the mood for something so heavy, and I get that.
