http://deadline.com/2017/08/the-joker-origin-movie-todd-phillips-martin-scorsese-scott-silver-batman-dc-universe-1202154053/amp/Warner Bros and DC are in the early stages of another Batman Universe spinoff movie, this one telling the origin story of the signature villain The Joker. The studio has set The Hangovers Todd Phillips to co-write a script with 8 Mile scribe Scott Silver. Phillips will direct the movie, and Martin Scorsese will produce it with Phillips. This will be the first film under a new banner that has yet to be named in which WB can expand the canon of DC properties and create unique storylines with different actors playing the iconic characters.
Im told that the intention is to make an origin story that isnt part of any other iteration. The Joker has memorably been part of two Batman movies in the form of Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger, and was most recently played by Jared Leto in the first Suicide Squad film. He will reprise in the Suicide Squad sequel and the Harley Quinn spinoff, but this new film will launch the character with a different actor, possibly younger.
An intriguing part is the setting. The intention is to make a gritty and grounded hard-boiled crime film set in early-80s Gotham City that isnt meant to feel like a DC movie as much as one of Scorseses films from that era, like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull or The King Of Comedy. Im told that Phillips and Silver are writing already, but there is nothing firm on where this will fit into the DC schedule.
Phillips most recently directed War Dogs with Jonah Hill and Miles Teller. Silvers recent script credits include The Fighter as well as Stronger, the David Gordon Green-directed Toronto-bound drama that stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Jeff Bauman, whose lower legs were blown off near the finish line of the Boston Marathon terror attack.
DC badly mangled Superman and failed to maximize his potential for three decades now. So, yeah.I have a question. Despite Superman being the world's archetypal superhero and DC's first superhero, Batman seems to be at the forefront at the literally everything DC-related. Heck, even the current event Metal is Batman-centred. Is it safe to say he's their golden boy?
I don't like Joker origin stories but I do find that premise interesting.I credit WB for still coming up with new ways to make me face palm. That Joker origin movie rumor is a new level of stupid.
Thanks to Christopher Nolan saving the character after 8 years of suffering due to the brilliantly entertaining fiasco that is Batman & Robin, the Arkham games, and -to my dismay- what Tacit Ronin said.I have a question. Despite Superman being the world's archetypal superhero and DC's first superhero, Batman seems to be at the forefront at the literally everything DC-related. Heck, even the current event Metal is Batman-centred. Is it safe to say he's their golden boy?
I think he's done after JL. Apparently Reeves' Batman is another standalone movie. Probably a backdoor pilot for a new and improved shared universe.
I suspect Affleck will say he is playing Batman in The Batman in the next few days![]()
If Affleck bails on the Batman, I wonder how many previous diehard defenders would suddenly shrug their shoulders and profess: it was totally part of the plan, no biggie. Lol at you making a mountain out of a molehill. Disney shill.
I'd like to see him do play the role.I suspect Affleck will say he is playing Batman in The Batman in the next few days![]()
