Old vs. new

New is way too bright.

If those screencaps are indicative of the quality, I'll stick with the originals.
I agree with this. Although I don't watch the movies as dark as the screenshots of old look here.

Y'all are ignoring the conversation we've been having about why you can't go by these crappy iTunes stills...

Let's wait for the real McCoy before jumping to any conclusions here. Repeat, all this does is confirm that they are new transfers in existence now. We have not truly seen what they actually look like yet.

Completed 51% of Arkham Knight and I think it might end up being my favorite entry in the Arkham games, though I'm not a fan of the idea of needing to finish all sidequest, predator and combat rooms, and collecting all upgrades before ending the story to get the full ending.

This moment on the roof of Panacea studios is really :funny:

Harley thug 1: "He'll kill us like he killed Joker"
Harley thug 2: "He'll hold medicine from us?"
Harley thug 1: "No you idiot. You know what I mean"

I think this has the best progressive dialogue of enemies as far as the game progresses.

Using car detection to find some of Riddler's trophies can be a pain though, it's a bit annoying, and sometimes glitchy, so this game is not as polished as the previous 2 entries from the same studio are.

I like that Rocksteady's previous entries gave us the option to quit the game if we lose, I wish they didn't follow the Arkham Origins model with immediate continuation of gameplay after the game over screen.

Riddler here is far less annoying than he is in Arkham City when it comes to lines he delivers.

Yeah, thugs banter is so fun. Also, they add scope to the games.

I love doing Riddler trophies and side-quests. Exploring every corner is pretty fun. One thing I didn't like in Arkham Knight gameplay-wise - exhausting fights against Cobra units. Super-tank and Deathstroke. OMFG. It sucked.

The one time these fights REEEALLLY sucked is for one of the bombs in an enclosed space in Founder's Island, that one is a real pain with flying drones accompanying tanks, unavoidable lock on missiles that hit the batmobile if you're busy dodging other tanks on the other side and dodging other shots, and the occasional fight against the camera.

I don't really mind the shifting AR in the Nolan films. The only movie where it actively bothered me was Transformers: The Last Knight because it had three aspect ratios it kept switching between.

I don't know what Bay was thinking there. It was amateurish. You would have a scene where wahlberg and hopkins are talking, and one actor would have one aspect ratio, the other would have a different aspect ratio and the wide shot would have a different aspect ratio. All in one scene. He could have just shot the entire film in IMAX digital. At least Nolan has a reason for his aspect ratio changes with regular film vs imax film and the camera sound, but even when a scene would use both cameras it's not at an insane rate like Bay did on The Last Knight. That was ridiculous.

Plenty of unused shots in the trailers for TDK. Everything was sacrificed to make the film flow naturally.

Oh my goodness, does anyone here watch peaky blinders?

Because apparently Bane and CIA have been reunited. It’s almost like they are destined to do battle forever in the multiverse.

I would post the link to the video but there are potty mouth words (oh noes!)

So I checked out TDK on iTunes last night. While the brighter scenes definitely suffered in the downconversion to this iTunes stream, the darker and more contrasty shots give you a better approximation of what this is going to look like. You gotta realize that this is still a crappy version and NOT how this is intended to be seen, but if you're a geek for this stuff...it's incredible to finally see the actual 35mm scenes restored. When you can see an improvement even here, you know it's going to be something else with a proper 4k setup.

Here's a little TDKR Lounge exclusive: (right click if you want to enlarge)

Is this just itunes or will other streaming services have this new transfer?

Certainly looks like HDR to SDR conversion. Colors are muted and skewed towards magenta.

Yeah, I feel reasonably sure that's what it is. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the reds pop more in the actual version, but when converted to SDR it goes a bit far.

Even so, I have to say just watching bits of the movie on my computer was a trip. This is gonna be so insane on with a 4K setup.

I don't have a 4K player or TV at the moment, but wow am I itching for all of that right now.

Only iTunes so far. Apple has now switched to the 4k remaster as the version it streams for all 3 films.

After seeing all these screengrabs it's pretty clear the trailers is a good representation of the intended look of the film. With frequent teals and greens. Good to know the film will finally get back it's green-ish color identity, similar to BB (sepia) and TDKR (blue). Happy to see boosted contrast and black crush, as well as sharpening, are gone.

Can't wait for the trilogy to arrive, but it will happen somewhere in January, most likely, at the earliest.

I am very curious how this will play on my setup. I have a UHD player but it’s hooked up to an 1080p set, properly calibrated. I have enjoyed the downconversion to SDR on these discs, even if they are slightly muted. But make no mistake, the new transfers on these films are going to kill in two weeks.
