I'm not a big MOS fan by any means, but I don't hate the film like some do or feel that it's a truly bad film at its core. All the pieces of the "MOS puzzle" didn't quite come together in the way that I feel they could (and should) have. I've realized there are actually a bunch of things I like about the movie individually, but the overall film lacks the proper synergy and connective tissue to properly bring those things together in a satisfying way.

Aside from the typical criticisms of MOS and Snyder we read on the Hype every day ad nauseam, the film is just missing something. If it had been stronger and more emotionally fulfilling in some places, I think some of those other shaky elements/decisions could have been forgiven (or at least ragged on less).

I concur with all of this. There are a lot of things I like about Man of Steel, but it didn't all come together for me. Is it a horrible movie? No, not at all. There's enough good things about it to prevent me from ever saying that. But it just left me really cold, I've given the movie a few chances because I really did want to like it, but whenever I watch it the impact isn't there.

Dude, we are knee deep in the middle of a comic book movie boom. And WB no longer has Harry Potter's teets to milk. They were gonna connect the dots sooner or later. With or without Goyer.

Well, the thing was WB needed to act fast with Superman because of the lawsuit with the rights. So Goyer came in with the pitch at the right time. With WB's past ineptitude with getting Superman projects off the ground, it's tough to say what would've happened.

Differeht circumstances there though, he had different people pushing him in a different direction (rumour has it he was told to make it like Star Wars) and this wouldn't be an origin story like Flyby was. Also there was some great stuff in that script let's not forget and none of us ever read the final draft. Also I doubt he'd be on full writing duties anyway and his skills as a filmmaker are fantastic. He's probably my number one choice for Man of Steel 2 director.
