6.15 Freak - Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

Did anyone realize this was the first episode where Clark used every ability at his disposal at one point or another.

We had: Super Breath, Hearing, Heat Vision, X-Ray vision, Strength, Speed, and his invulnerability.

I was just happy to see Super Breath again.

Like you said Rene, Clark and Lana actually talked about some of the things that went on. That is highly unusual. Plus Clark used his heat vision like never before. Clark was caring and understanding.

His hesitation on using his heat vision was not dumb in the least. Clark hadn't used it intentionally on a human before, and he didn't know what it would do. I would be afraid of killing my friend, and I understood his hesitation on it.

Lex is so turning evil. I think the reason he did swear on the child is because [blackout]there isn't one[/blackout]. That clears him from accusation.

I went into the episode hesitant and ended up loving what they did.

Michael Rosenbaum deserves a huge kudos for his first directing job.
You forgot one. He didn't fly. Isn't that considered a "ability"?

Well techincally it doesn't count because Clark doesn't know how to fly...unless he's in Kal kryptonian mode.

i think tbias just threw lana off clarks trail when he said hes the most normal person hes ever known.

Meaning, Clark's entire body seems to be affected i/o just his eyes (as in the director's cut previews of Freak), and so Tobias can actually see him as a whole person?

Or that everyone has a bit of a green tinge from exposure to K... OTHER than Clark, who is "the most normal person" because K isn't inside him at all?

Or that he really was telling the truth, but Lana assumed he wasn't (as we could see on her face), and THAT threw her off the trail?

I would've said that Lana was clear off the trail, but that ending sequence with the bullet and the conversation with Clark just went to show that despite Tobias' statements she still carries her suspicions about Clark.

And good god was that painful for Clark when she said she would still see him as the same guy even if he was a freak. All those years protecting his secret from her because he was afraid of how she'd react, and now he learns that she would've accepted him being different.

Ouchies. :csad:

Oh, I agree that she's still suspicious of Clark - it was more a question of whether Tobias was telling the truth as he saw it, or whether he was actively trying to deceive/redirect/distract Lana.

I didn't read Clark's reaction as painful as much as hopeful (hopeful, that is, IF she ends up not marrying Lex). Have to rewatch it to be sure.

Don't remember what I thought of this earlier on, but based on the last few eps I think she wouldn't really have accepted him as different (meteor freak or otherwise) until this season. She's only now witnessing (and remembering) some of what he can do as well as how he generally has it under control. She's only now starting to suspect Lex of being as bad as Clark & Chloe have been saying. She's only now thinking she might be sorry she's not with Clark.

6.16+ will tell...

I'm not hating Lana onscreen these days, though, which is a plus. She has gone from "weenie/whiny" back to the thoughtful, bright girl who got Clark's attention back in the beginning.

Why must it hurt Clark? He already knew she would. Reckoning anyone? She agreed to marry him knowing he was an alien.

Hence why I don't buy any scene anymore that deals with Clark thinking Lana won't accept him. It makes him look stupid and me slap my forehead.

"My meteors killed your parents."

That part hasn't been said.

Yeah it'll be very interesting to see how they handle that issue...

Still, doubt Lana would be bitter about it--after all Clark lost his parents too during the event and ultimately it brought both of them together. Two peas in a pod.

I doubt it too. I'm just saying Lex could say he donated for charity reasons, not nefarious, no matter what the notes say. It's not like we are ever going to have to worry about it.
We're not really understanding each other on this one.

Didn't we just go around about this recently? :)
But the response was in regards to cmill's comment about Lana accepting Clark for being different, not about the meteors squashing her parents. He *has* known since Reckoning that she would accept him for being an alien...which seems like a tougher hurdle than just being a meteor infected human.

Don't remember what I thought of this earlier on, but based on the last few eps I think she wouldn't really have accepted him as different (meteor freak or otherwise) until this season.

I must respectfully disagree.

I thought that's not the reason why he wont tell her...I mean sure, before it was because he thought she wouldn't except him but now its because of the classic Superhero complex: He's keeping his identity a secret to protect her.

OMG, the ONE night i miss an episode in season 6 is the one episode that redeems itself from last week's episode.

and now i have to wait a month. :(

I said that in regards to the poster above me about Lana not accepting Clark. Nothing else.

I thought this was one of the best episodes of the season. Clark getting to use all of his powers, the moment when he was getting the gps out of chloe, lex swearing on his childs soul, lana getting closer and closer to clarks secret....need i go on. this was a fantastic episode from start to finish!! Congratulations Mr Rosenbaum on your first episode as director. I hope you do more!!

Its to bad they could not get Justin to guest star in that end bit to greet Tobias. But the mention of him was good. He is helping out when he is not even in Smallville. I guess Clark called him.

Yeah, but he already knew that she'd accept him when he took her to the FOS and proposed.:cwink:

You forgot one. He didn't fly. Isn't that considered a "ability"?

I don't count flight since he hasn't learned to fully use it on his own. He can super jump, but not quite fly yet.

Tis, why I said at his disposal.:cwink:

So after sleeping on it, I've come to the conclusion that this was an excellent episode. And at the same time, it has completely screwed up my rankings for the season.

See, from top-to-bottom I think this episode was better than "Crimson". But by saying that, I'm also saying I thought it was the best episode of the season, according to how I've ranked them so far. And really, I'm not sure if I feel like "Freak" was superior to say "Zod" or "Labyrinth", though I felt like "Crimson" was. So.....

*heads to the Rank Em' thread to decide* ;)

Overall this was another great episode. Clark used all his abilities and gave a great example of how Superman should act.:super:

I liked the episode, but the kid's emo hair was annoying, almost like he should be killed for having that hair.
