Uh oh, this is all making me realise, if this film is a big hit with, we could have a whole new wave of 'slash' fan fiction on our hands. Supernatural fans will know what I'm talking about :p

I've got a bad feeling they'll just turn this movie in a Batman movie and have Superman as the villian
Or the other way round. I wonder how much was meant by introducing the movie with the TDKR quote of Batman 'beating' Superman. I think Batman will definitely be introduced as xenophobic and equipped to fight Supes. And somewhere at the turn he will recognize Clark for what he is: 'just trying to help' like him, and they'll team-up and focus their efforts on Luthor.

I think the movie will revolve around retaliating to the Kryptonian invasion on Earth and the destruction that occurred. The US government (or all the powers) will develop a massive defense program to be able to take down Superman. (think Pacific Rim)

Bruce of course will do this privately. He will be just as xenophobic of Supes, and scared by what transpired in Metropolis. Already years into his war on crime he now knows that he has to equip himself even more after seeing how powerful Superman is. He'll probably have a tank-like Batmobile like TDKR, and be armed with heavy firepower and hypersonics.

Fighting Batman will be the big 2nd act 'physical' confrontation for Supes. Then they will team together to take down the governments weapons as they are being used for some other Lex agenda.

I so, want this movie to end with Batman and Superman duking it out.

Here's the ending.

Batman: A man's got to go his own way. A friend taught me that.

Superman: Not just a friend.
[extends his hand]

Batman: A partner.
[shakes it]

:awesome:

I hope we get a nice iconic shot of Batman and Superman standing on a rooftop together at the conclusion of the film.

it should end like this

Surprise surprise. :whatever:

I understand having Lois Lane in MoS of course. It's a new start for Superman, you kind of have to have her in the film, but Batman doesn't need yet another love interest.

I read the comics so I realize Bruce has been with many women, but this just feels forced. Not every superhero/comic film needs a love interest, it's why I was so happy Nolan had the balls to kill Dawes in TDK.

doubtful, some really poor speculation with that article. they're looking for a late 20's tall, physically fit woman, I find it much more likely that they're simply casting Mercy, but these sites that do the "reporting" do little more than assume any female in a movie like this is a love interest. when reporting stuff like this they shouldn't make assumptions and then title the articles after them.

Can't be any worse than the numerous "sistercest" Buffy fanfiction out there. :oldrazz:

I would love for ****ing once to not have a love interest for a hero. Just let them be badass all the time without having to worry about their feelings towards a significant other. This pisses me off so much.

it's not confirmed to be a love interest, read the article and take note of what the actual facts are in it, it's speculation on the article's part.

It's probably for one of Wayne's parties or something. One scene type deal.

Like Natascha in TDK.

They might make her really minor in this movie, then develop her more in a solo Bat film.

love interest is not the same as a one night stand.

How do you know it was a one night stand?

Besides, we see Bruce with the whole ballerina crew on his boat later in the movie.

I walked out of inception with a confused audience in tow... Not that Zack has done anything of that sort with his comments. The point is that the number of people understanding something when it comes to art isn't the same as with a science lecture. We all take different things away.

As for the my interpretation of what he's saying. I could try and share, just as I've tried to share my interpretation of MOS with folks here...seems like a fool me once scenario tbh

Still, why not:
I wanted the movie to have a mythological feeling
-Wanted to make a modern myth. From the various analogies in the picture to the scale and impact.

In ancient mythology, mass deaths are used to symbolize disasters. In other countries like Greece and Japan, myths were recounted through the generations, partly to answer unanswerable questions about death and violence.
Traditionally the events in myths, take on a metaphorical meaning as that helps explain history or science through generations. Demeter's story explaining the seasonal shifts, The japanese fujin stories explaining to the various winds etc. In this particular myth, disaster is being used to symbolize death and the myth of superman as told by Snyder is heavy on the death(without actually showing any), thus we are given "disaster".

In America, we don’t have that legacy of ancient mythology. Superman (who first appeared in ‘Action Comics’ in 1938) is probably the closest we get.
Unlike in Greece/Japan/Africa. America doesn't have much myths or rather the myth tradition(probably because America only a few centuries old). What we do have is Comic Books, Action Comics to be more specific.
*I should add, he's explaining American society to foreigners right now. Not giving rabid fanboys the answers they so violently deserve.

It’s a way of recounting the myth

Comic books are the closest thing to Western mythology(outside westerns), and along with mythology you have symbolism. The killing of his family by his own had. This symbolized the largely significant theme of the mythic rage in the Hercules mythology.
Applied to Superman and you have mythic levels of disaster symbolizing death.

Now if you want to argue that death has no place in the superman myth, that's fine. I'm just sharing my interp of what say is saying in this instance. Take it for what you will.

I'm sorry, but you can't act as if you're superior to everyone else on the board by claiming you understand what Snyder was saying and then back-peddle to explain that it's just your interpretation of what he was saying and that everyone is welcome to their own view.

The very specific context of this situation is that Snyder was asked directly about why he focused so much on death and destruction in a Superman movie and Snyder's answer was nonsensical.

Plus, I don't disagree that SOME myths do have mass deaths (i.e. the battle of Troy), but that's rarely the focus of any myth. Myth, as Joseph Campbell explains, is meant to be a metaphor for the human life journey. The struggles that our mythic heroes undergo are metaphors for the struggles we face as humans everyday. Atlas holding the weight of the world on his shoulders. Orpheus leading the ghost of his love from the underworld back to life but losing her because he disobeyed Hades and turned around to make sure she was there before getting out of Tartarus. Odysseus literally facing one challenge after another on his odyssey from Troy to get home. These are all metaphors for LIFE.

I also agree that comics are a modern mythology of America. The most popular characters endure because they are are built of the same fabric that mythic heroes were. The crux of Superman is the idea that someone with all the power in the world would choose to use that power to help and inspire mankind rather than dominate it. That's what makes the character interesting. When you watch him in a movie or read about him in a comic, that is what keeps you going through a story. The question of "how will he solve this." It's a foregone conclusion that Superman will save the day, just like it is for Batman or Green Lantern or Spider-Man or any other fictional hero. The interesting part, the part that keeps us coming back, is how?

I hope it's Cat Grant so they have the boob scene from the Brainiac comic.
