There is really no comparison between Marvel and DC in the present. The former has an incredible shared cinematic universe with some of the best superhero films ever made. The latter has... Man of Steel.

Emphasis mine.

Of course, that kinda makes it an uninteresting point as it's like comparing the Empire State Building to the concrete foundation of Sears Tower.

Personally I'd love to see a Wonder Woman film directed by Del Toro if they base it on Azzarello's glorious run or by Doug Liman if it's more "grounded".

I LOVE Azzarello's work on WW and would love to see him on Hypothetical DC Film Committee, but I don't think his take on the setting would work in the movie medium. What made it cool was that by taking Greek mythology and getting Gaimanesque with it he was able to pull off both foreign and familiar at the same time. But it also rendered Wonder Woman a mere player on a stage full of gods. A Wonder Woman movie has to be about Wonder Woman, not the really cool interpretation of Hades.

Watching yesterday's episode of Arrow, and Brandon Routh is awesome in that episode. He has a charm he didn't show as Superman (or maybe that was the writing).

Blame DC lack of (good) work, not me.

Contex? Do you mean since the TDK Triliogy, Superman II, Burton Triliogy? If you are talking since the creation of the MCU then fine, I agree. If you are talking since the creation of movies and television then DC's output far outstrips Marvel's on TV and movies. Possibly also in quality. Including imprints owned by the companies and it is not even a close contest on quality films by each company. I get frustrated when it seems like fans believe the world was created when the MCU began. Everyone acts like DC has never been successful with films or tv and that assumption is just plain wrong. Instead iof the building reference I saw it is more like DC is New York City (an old eastablished city with problems, needs rejuvenation) and Marvel is Dubai (New, innovative city but one who's obvious problems are overlooked due to freshness and the innovations that it has contributed.)
Last point as far as quality- DC films have been nominated for 27 Oscars and won 5. Marvel Films have been nominated for 10 and won 1.

Maybe it's cause Routh likes acting, and has done a ton of roles in tv as well as independent movies and some other small movies in order to get better?

Routh was fine in SR to me. As was most of the cast and given it's 2006 peidgree I even don't mind the SFX, yes even CGI man at the end. It's plot/story, character interactions, tone, pacing, and playing to audience expectations that's SR's problem (and a truly miscast and uncharming Lois in Kate B.). It's hard to judge any actor, especially in that kind of role if the people behind the cameras decide, "Hey, ya know what? I bet a Superman movie where he barely speaks and creepily stalks Lois Lane, who has had his child unbeknownst to him after he leaves Earth for no good reason is what the audience and the franchise really need."

Well, he's only 35. That's... That's not ancient in the least. If he's still looking like this at 55, then we'll talk.

(We'll talk about harvesting his blood for my home made immortality formula... BWA-HA-HA-HAHA!!!)

Lol I know 35 isn't old, it's just that he looks pretty much exactly the same as he did at 25.

Like I said in a previous post, I meant the present. Pretty much MCU x Man of Steel which in the first film in a possible bigger universe. The point being how unreasonable this comparison is.

Great post!

WB will never give DC $4 billion (or any amount really) and say "go create your own DCCU". WB wants credit for DC's success.

maybe not, but wb has dc entertainment, and diane nelson is it's feige. whether she has the foresight and/or the money to do have a long term plan is another matter. it appears that she may though, given the rumored plan of an expanded universe.

She did help get Harry Potter to the big screen and is really pushing the Vertigo line.
