The Dark Knight Rises Batman´s new vehicle in TDKR II

Well I'm not scouring Youtube to find a machine with rotors on the back flying 6 feet above the ground in a high speed pursuit.

If you think its nothing more than a helpless error then whatever.

If we're nitpicking the bobbling of the vehicle I can't wait till people gripe about the dummy Batman that flops around in the batwing

Nolan you fail!

Why couldn't you put Bale in that vehicle!

Your avvy is a trailer in itself :o

:funny:

Here you can see the blades clearly.

It's going to be awesome watching and hearing it! You know the noise an helicopter makes.

Now I see them! lol, God I love this machine. :O

It has 4 turbines: 2 front and 2 rear. And 2 blade rotors on the belly. It will sound like 1 million bats screaming in a cave. :woot:

Plus when it starts to fire to the tumblers and the explosions and the score! OMG!!!

Never seen this angle before, the details are amazing.

And another thing you should know is that the huge whining on the internet about Bane's voice (even Cameron Stewart, the acclaimed artist currently drawing batman comics joked about it) has put pressure on WB and they did the same to Nolan who will try and fix it. See our voice can be heard.

Is there a link to a credible source that says WB have put pressure on Nolan to alter Bane's voice?

I don't see any shaking in that gif, looks to me like it's just changing position. Just noticing the rotors in that shot as well, very cool.

And as well, it's a very short clip. We can't see the flight pattern, where it's been and where it's going.

i am not going to complain until the movie is out. but this shot makes it very obvious that the batwing is on a car rig. when a car is driving its shaking because of the road. a flying vehicle doesnt move or shake up and down like that.

huge respect for filming this in imax for real. but its an example where a CGI flyign vehicle would look 100% real in the shot. Double Negative and modern CGI studios can do this in 2011.

Are you sure? It's pretty close to the ground and surrounded by buildings. Seems like a tight fit. The air flow probably isn't very generous.

Yes Harriers are unrealistic. They dont exist in real life.
That's not what I meant. If he was going the Harrier route, the main fuselage might have needed a different design to fit larger internal turbines and venting than that flattened profile....so just adding the rotating vents could have been 'cheating' it too much.

Still...those rotors without much space for intake are iffy as well. Maybe he just likes the look of them better.

As for the rotor bases, they might be where the bat is bolted on the crane that makes it fly, and not rotors.
Nah...they're for rotors. In other pics, you can clearly see rotor 'heads' attached to them for other takes or what have you. The crane/rig attaches to the front only.

With such an expensive hydraulic rig no one can really think Nolan would allow the Batwing to shake. Everything is tested and filmed on pre-production to know how it will look later on screen. Just watch on Youtube the "making of" for BB and TDK and the months they spent building the tumbler and the batpod, filming them jumping, racing, crashing over cars, firing, etc.

I don't think it shakes because of the road. If flies and changes position quickly to target the tumblers and the truck. That makes it look more menacing. Probably it can do a 360 degrees rotation in seconds while firing and rising from the ground, etc.

That kind of equipment is controlled by computers and has stabilizers and gyroscopes.

Too me, it looks like it moves like a small helicopter...which isn't completely smooth and steady in tight-movement situations. Yeah, there's some wobbling here and there....it's still putting power into hovering at low air speeds, and not shooting by at 400mph. Maybe some people are expecting a winged fighter-jet type of thing, whereas I see this more of a hovercraft/helicopter hybrid with appropriate air performance....especially squeezing into streets and alleyways with not much room for airflow.

I also think that onscreen, with the way/angles they shot it, it'll add to the sense of immediacy and dynamism than having it just move smoothly and too linearly. Like the rest of the 'spy photos' and onlooker footage, we're mostly seeing it from the outside...it's very different through the actual camera/lens that the filmmakers are intending to look through.

There was some shaking due to the road at the end of the gif, the following collision was also unintentional :oldrazz:
I don't notice any in the trailer though, it dips forward like it should to accellerate. It's not like they have to use the footage of it driving over potholes, they were filming the chase scene for weeks.

Not sure if it was mentioned before but the car it drives around on has 3 occupants, presumably 1 driver and two 'puppeteers'.

Also, we've seen...what...three seconds of actual onscreen footage of it (which itself looked pretty good)? Watching the tumbler drive by from the outside probably didn't look that exciting, but when the footage from that low-mounted camera made it to the screen...bang! I'm sure that BNolan & crew knew what kind of results they were going for before they even started, and weren't thrown or forced to improvise because of some newfound bouncing or what have you. If that were going to be an issue, it probably would have surfaced while designing and testing the rig, as well as the camera angles.

I think you notice a bump/sloping area in the road too.

Look at the GMC car slightly go up and down.

I'm sure Nolan took into consideration that things wouldn't go as smooth when he filmed on the streets

As opposed to sticking the batwing prop in a studio and green screening the city

Real city landscape and real prop add to the atmosphere

He doesnt post the source but i found this article on numerous sites on the internet earlier when i was looking for more info. I dont know if its from a credible source or not. I would post a link but its literally everywhere and i dont know which link is the source of it.
Just google "tdkr audio problems".

Seriously, its a flying lobster. It's manageable from the front, but from the side its atrocious!

From that last GIF posted, and from the 1080p footage, it appears that the rotors work like this:

P8NIN.jpg

The blades alternate and spin like so. If you look closely at the GIF and 1080 trailer, you can see the tip of the rotor on the upper right corner of the Bat as well, and a flickering movement in the shadows of the upper left corner of the Bat where the opposing rotor is. The main section that everyone is seeing is the "bottom" of the rotor (shown here in red). This layout of large diameter rotor sweep explains why you can't see it real clearly in the trailer. It is also a little more realistic that two large rotors would be needed to provide lift for that machine.

Well I'll be, Raganork was right, the thing does have rotors. Now I see em.

Yep...it's a rather strange setup, but it looks like that's what it is. Still interesting.

It's kinda' like a flying mower-tractor from Hell.....shaped like a lobster...and....piloted by Batman. :D

You can't judge something like this without sound fx. Tie Fighters would be nothing without their sound.

You know what else had rotors? The batwing in Arkham City. I am not too crazy about it, but i'd take it over a flying lobster any day of the week. I think that if they redesigned it a tiny bit so that its surfaces were more angular like those of the tumbler, it would match Nolan's style for Batman vehicles and it would look great.

He was always right.

And so the Batwingcopterharrierlobster was created.

Ok, now that we know 100% how it flies is time to bring back the topic...

Does the Batwing transform into something else?

A) Yes, it can transform into a jet airplane, ejecting the blades and modifying the shape and vector of all wings to take an airplane shape for high speeds.

B) No way.

C) Don't know.

D) Other.

Kind of A) I think it will have an alternative function once it is damaged, like the tumbler had the batpod. don't know exactly what it could turn into though, although I'm pretty sure it would have to lose the lobster claws to complete the transformation

even if it crashes, technically it could be used as a battering ram/suicide style (possibly ejecting Batman at the last minute), as long as the jets are still functional on the back.

Yes, right! They are long blades that criss-cross.

But what do you all think about the lack of blades on the left? I keep asking. :woot:

from that angle we r basically looking dead on at the side of the blade on the left, and also it could be hidden in the upper left lobster tail section at that angle

Just google "tdkr audio problems".

It's The Hollywood Reporter that is making the claims but also stating Nolan is refusing to budge.
