The Human Torch is Captain America..

Daredevil is Batman...

Last time I checked, there wasn't a shortage of male actors in Hollywood! C'mon guys! Weak... :o

The reaction on a radio show I am listening to - laughing. Spencer Hughes said "Worst choice ever. Worse choice ever".

Not that Hughes is the be all and end all but just as the impression has built that MOS was a financial disappointment the Affleck choice may be taking on a general negative perception and thus hurt WF.

THi hurts the BO potential of WF and wasn't that was what this was supposed to be about. Superman can't do a billion but throw in Batman and he can. This makes that not a given now.

Don't know if it's been mentioned but......Affleck is taller than Cavill and debending on the Bat-suit's details....Batman may be significantly larger than Superman.....does that make sense?

Like Angry Joe on youtube, my biggest concern is that I will never see Batman or Bruce Wayne in this film, my eyes will only ever see Ben Afflek when hes playing Bruce or Bat's. He's just so damn famous and recognisable. It's one of the reasons they didn't go with a Robert Redford type actor for the original Superman, people would have just seen Robert Redford dressed up as Superman, so they went with an unknown.

Though like Angry Joe says, Afflek could probably give Goyer and Synder a hand with writing and directing this thing :cwink:

I think only the casting of Tom Cruise could have disappointed me more. After about my third Affleck film, I realized I'd seen his entire acting range: Playing himself. I have ZERO interest in seeing this film now. So disappointed because I enjoyed MOS so much.

I'm actually fine with the choice. He wasn't in my top five or anything, but I can see him fitting into more of a real world setting.

Someone mentioned earlier that he can do Bruce in his sleep. I'm also very confident that playing Batman won't be an issue either. People are going to ridicule me for comparing the two, but he has a similar smugness in some previous roles as Bale had in TDK series. I don't think that it'll be a shockingly new take, but a mesh between Bale's and TAS.

/Affleck was the bomb in Phantoms.

Hmm...I don't even know what to say to this. Affick isn't a BAD actor but he's certaintly better behind the camera than in front of it. But even so, it seems like very poor casting to place him as Batman. It's an ok choice, but there are far better actors out there that could have fit the role. Ones with a face that would look better in the cowl too.
Who?

Not that I think it's particularly important, but Affleck is one actor who clearly does have the superhero jaw.

It's possible there are parallels between himself and Bruce/Batman.

But... but... but... he was in 2 movies 10 years ago that some people hated! (Even though one was financial successful and Affleck's performance was praised by the great Roger Ebert.) But still, AFFLECK IS AWFUL! MY WORLD IS DEAD! CHILDHOOD RAPED! OFFICIALLY ON SUICIDE WATCH! :cwink:

Correcting: he had a weak performance as a superhero very similar to Batman which shouldn't be ignored since he's playing...wait for it...BATMAN.

and the only ones using the term ”raped childhood” are the Affleck supporters, not the skeptics.

When I first read this news, I experienced complete shock/disbelief....and not in a good way. Ben ****ing Affeck as Batman? This was not what I was expected at all. But the more I think about it, the more I'm getting behind it and excited about it.

1. Affleck's come a long way since his Daredevil days when he was working off of ****** scripts. He's learned a lot about filmmaking and has made some great films. However, he's stayed away from these type of big budget blockbusters in recent years. So think about it -- For him to even come close to this project, it means that Snyder and his team really sold Affleck on this concept. They must have pitched this new film to him in a way that made it so he couldn't pass it up.

2. To build on my first point, Affleck doesn't seem like the type of guy to sign up for something like this just to cash a paycheck. He doesn't need the money. He's not only an established (and extremely wealthy) actor, but he is now a Hollywood director with some serious clout. The dude just won a Best Picture Oscar for Argo...and now he's signed on to play Batman. That alone has me seriously intrigued as to what attracted him to the role.

3. I can see Affleck portraying an older, more seasoned Batman compared to Cavill's newbie. I really liked what Snyder said about that in the press release. Definitely helped me come around to this casting.

4. Affleck's always had a decent physique, so it'll be interesting to see how he bulks up for this. This isn't 2003 and he's not playing someone unknown superhero in a crappy cash-grab movie. The superhero subgenre of film has been elevated in recent years, thanks in part to Nolan's Batman films. Affleck knows that this isn't going to just be a silly romp that he can take lightly. Not only will he have to take the role seriously to deliver a meaty performance, but I'm sure he knows he's going to have to transform his body for this part.

It's too early to really pass total judgment on this, to dismiss it or embrace it. But I'm open to it and I cannot wait to see how this turns out!

This.

Famous people have played Batman before its nothing new. Its not the same as casting Superman. Tell you something aswell when I watched Hollywoodland I didn't think oh look its Ben Affleck, he was so good in that and that's why.

That's what I'm thinking

I have no idea how this guy can be criticised so much without even people seeing his portrayal of the character. The stupidity of people crying out Daredevil and Gigli....guess what people, Daredevil had a director and a writer....and yes Gigli was **** but I am sure nearly every actor has done a bad film.

His last few movies have been great and he has really grown as an actor and a screenwriter/director. I hope too he has a hint in editing the script or even a deal where he can pen his own Batman films.

He has the physique for Batman, he is a big guy and will get more buffed up for this role. He has the jaw lol. He has the look for Bruce Wayne.

The only thing that concerns me is that they are going for a more wiser Batman with lots of experience, which is very cool but how is that going to affect his fighting style in the upcoming movies. I really want to see Batman fight acrobatically and be very agile, true to his character.

Anyways the point of this is that people need to wait until they actually see a trailer or watch the movie before judging. Anything else is just stupid misconceptions. Haven't we learnt our lesson from Heath Ledger, Keaton etc
The Heath Ledger comparison has a glarring flaw. Heath Ledger was a good actor who most of us just didn't think was right for the part. Ben Affleck is a *TERRIBLE* actor who isn't right for any part.

Ben Affleck has not just "done a bad film". As an Actor he has an entire Career's worth of awful performances, and while he has become a great director and writer he has *not* grown as an actor one bit. At his absolute best he can be passable in roles like Argo, but that's about it.

The only potential downside to this is that Ben's fame could lead to this film becoming more of a Batman film featuring Superman if Warner Bros. and Snyder feel that Ben's fame and batman's popularity will make the film even better.

I love this move. They wanted an older Batman and Affleck is 41. I feel this is also a power move by WB to ensure that JLA is a huge hit. WB needs this in order to keep up with the amazing cast Marvel puts together for its movies. Also I have heard that Affleck might be the director for the next Batman franchise and this would set up his character for that. I mean they pretty much have to go with Affleck for JLA and the new franchise or this just looks dumb. I only hope that he doesnt overshadow Cavill. This should still be Superman first and foremost and I would hate for Cavill to lose steam to Affleck.

No offense, but your assertion is slightly sycophantic. Ledger did well in Brokeback and I'm Not There before TDK. The rest of his filmography was also "passable", and some might say he was just a teen heartthrob in a lot of his earlier stuff. Writing Affleck off for a couple of bad roles in a fairly extensive career seems quite premature.

The reactions from people is hilarious.....sad and hilarious.......
