My feelings right now over anyone hating and bitcing about Affleck:

[YT]bBPrdX-cqF0[/YT]

Seriously, these are quite literally some of the most ignorant comments I've ever seen over a casting. If not THE most ignorant.

I love this move. They wanted an older Batman and Affleck is 41. I feel this is also a power move by WB to ensure that JLA is a huge hit. WB needs this in order to keep up with the amazing cast Marvel puts together for its movies. Also I have heard that Affleck might be the director for the next Batman franchise and this would set up his character for that. I mean they pretty much have to go with Affleck for JLA and the new franchise or this just looks dumb. I only hope that he doesnt overshadow Cavill. This should still be Superman first and foremost and I would hate for Cavill to lose steam to Affleck.

Agreed; honestly, I'm not as worried as much towards Affleck being chosen for the role. While I can't tell exactly on how well he'll portray it, I don't see his selection for Batman's character being a negative thing either.

I'm more concerned about how this will affect on how Cavil's Superman is portrayed in the film.

Only Bale playing Nolan Batman would have been bigger than this.

Absolute slam dunk. Tremendous work by Nelson, Tsujihara, Snyder, and everyone else over at WB. I seriously cannot believe they were able to get Affleck.

Imagine the rest of the actors WB lure back into the DCCU with Affleck on their side. Hell, Clooney may return to comic book movies at this point. Anything is possible.

Wow, I can't believe the backlash this is getting, on here and other sites. This is fantastic casting, Affleck is a tremendous actor, sure he's been in some stinker, but really, who hasn't. Besides , its a whole of a hell lot better than the other choices that were being thrown around by fanboys and the media.

Love this choice.

Oh and Affleck was the bomb in Phantoms yo!

The Heath Ledger comparison has a glarring flaw. Heath Ledger was a good actor who most of us just didn't think was right for the part. Ben Affleck is a *TERRIBLE* actor who isn't right for any part.

Ben Affleck has not just "done a bad film". As an Actor he has an entire Career's worth of awful performances, and while he has become a great director and writer he has *not* grown as an actor one bit. At his absolute best he can be passable in roles like Argo, but that's about it.
Lets not re-write history. Ledger was not exactly considered a good actor before TDK, outside of one film, Brokeback Mountain.

I'm late to the party. Just found out the casting news. It's quickly growing on me. Negative reaction doesn't surprise me.

This is the biggest casting backlash I would say since Ledger was announced as Joker, people really are pulling their hair out over this.

Agreed

Wow, I knew it would be a nuthouse in here but this is even worse than I expected, never underestimate the hype.

My reaction when Bale was cast was elation, never thought it would happen when so many of us wanted him for the role. Bale Dammit!:cmad:

My reaction when I read the news this morning was one of almost apathy. I don't think the sky is falling, but I'm not immediately excied either. Plenty of potential concerns, plenty of potential positives. Wait and see, I'll reserve judgement.

Absolutely asinine. Totally over reacting. Then it's going to be that complete 180 and all these same people will have Ben in their Avi's.

One of the biggest problems with Daredevil, other than the "Director" and I use that term loosely, was the horrible fetish leather suit. So here's hoping they nail it on a new batsuit.

The hate around the web is astounding!

Thankfully few of us here are raging lunatics who'll end up eating their words.

I don't understand it at all. Affleck isn't even cast against type, like a Keaton or a Ledger. There's really no excuse not to give him a chance.

Many of these ennui-engorged fanboys are going to be the first to see the bloody film come opening day. So, for the time being, they should all just pipe down and suck on their thumbs. The world hasn't ended.

No offense, but your assertion is slightly sycophantic. Ledger did well in Brokeback and I'm Not There before TDK. The rest of his filmography was also "passable", and some might say he was just a teen heartthrob in a lot of his earlier stuff. Writing Affleck off for a couple of bad roles in a fairly extensive career seems quite premature.

No. He was great in both films. Also great in Candy, Monster's Ball, Ned Kelly, Lords of Dogtown ...

Now, people need to understand that this is a film by Zack Snyder. Zack is all about visual effects and less on performances.
Never hope more than ok performances in a film directed by Zack Snyder.

I don't understand the Affleck hate either. He's a great choice.

I think they have chosen Affleck for his age and because nobody talked about him for the role. Affleck can surprise us, he's a fade actor, but who knows he can surprise us.

The news media and blog sites are loving the web hits they get making a controversy out of this.

Spot on, and it will never change.

Grace Randolph in that video above must be on drugs she's saying that Marvel's films are getting darker and DC is starting to go lighter?! Did this chick not watch MOS?

I kind of agree. As much as Watchmen had some pretty interesting visuals, it had some great performances by JDM and JEH. That's what I'm expecting to see.

Not to be that guy, but I don't want to automatically think "oh, this is going to be just like Heath, and he will be amazing" because that's just being naive. Personally I think people should be cautiously optimistic. Don't think this is going to be another Heath Ledger situation because that is just setting yourself up to be let down. But also, don't think it's going to be a train wreck just because he did some bad movies 10 years ago. The man has been pretty good as of late, so at least give yourself some hope that it could be good. /rant

I'm nervous and excited at the same time, and I'm reserving my judgement until I actually see the film.

I have no problem with this, hate would have come to almost anyone they chose. I'm sure Ben will do fine, in fact I'm sure he'll surpass many people's expectations.

Now lets get some Villains info!

Not gonna lie, I'm rather underwhelmed by this casting news. I'd have been far more intrigued had Affleck been behind the camera for this. I'll echo Saint, who posted the following:
Saint said:
I'm more curious than optimistic.

So yeah, I'll be on the wait-and-see bandwaggon. Oh, and thank God we didn't actually get Gosling or Joe M as Batman.

I love this casting choice because of how nuts it seems on the surface. The question that needs to be asked is why Affleck, at this point in his career, would do this?

WB was going to front every movie he wanted to do after The Town and Argo and he does this?!

That says something more about what Snyder has planned more than anything else.

What the hell convinced the Affleck to play the goddamn Batman? This is just intriguing stuff.

Also, this to the bolded part.

Hi Guys

my brother in law knows a executive in WB in the US , he told
me about Ben Affleck two weeks ago. I was going to post it
on here but thought I would be shot down big time as I thought
he was stupid for even mentioning him.

I was told this was sorted out last year and it has been all planned
for a long time but they wanted to see the reaction from man of steel
before they announced it.

From what he said the plan is that Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor are friends
but lex is head of a multinational crime organization. Bruce does not know
this, but as lex is helping rebuild metropolis he is also trying to turn public against superman. superman uncovers the conspiracy about lex and tries
to take on Lex this is where the conflict between superman and batman starts. Lex has got hold of krypton tech from the debris and uses it against
superman evening up the fight.

I would not normally post this for fear of getting shot down but he was right
about affleck so i thought i would put it on here.

Might all be B/S
