Well, Theron has more mysteriouse looking eyes, plus she has an oscar. Beckinsale however has proven onscreen chemestry with Bale, and has done action before. Plus, she has more a more bountiful bust. I really need to put some seriouse thought into it before I can say wether I'd prefer one over the other though.

I'm not sure Beckinsale can really act Van Helsing anyone, sure she is pretty but all the actresses listed have far to much star presence and are to much in the public eye to be separated from the actual character. I'm not saying Emmanuelle Vaugier is the correct choice but she is far more of an unknown and therefore could pull off the character and make it more realistic. Anyway I think some of these women are being picked for wonder woman so here is another beauty to add to the list of candidates Morena Baccarin.

And Van Helsing was supposed to be campy fun. She's done pretty good performances in other movies though.

Another advantage for having Kate Beckinsale is that she played Christian Bale's fiance in "Laurel Canyon" so there is proven chemistry between the two.

She's a good choice actually.

Yeah, she was kinda thin in that movie, prolly cuz she was playing a vampire. But have you seen the Diet Coke commercial where she's in a bikini? Now that's a body I could see in tight leather.

I thought Julia Rose who played Catwoman in Return to the Batcave: The Misadventures of Adam and Burt , was pretty good and could possible do a very good (not campy) Catwoman.

Actually the mouth works against her IMO because it's so recognizeable.

So is Bale's and so was Keaton's. She could actually disguise it better by wearing extremely different shades of lipstick in and out of costume.

The truth is that everyone's lips are quite different, but Jolie's are alot more recognizeable than Bale's or Keaton's IMO.

For the umpteenth time, she's a CAT BURGLAR. They all share something in common, and that's stealth. You'll never see one in broad daylight, nor will you see one in a crowded area, nevertheless face people. So you can ramble on and on about Jolie's lips, but the same freakin' thing applies to any other actress cause no matter how big their lips are, the mask itself is revealing either way.

But Batman DOES see her close up and long enough to notice her lips, and he would also see Selina Kyle's lips from a close proximity as well.

Wouldn't it make more sense to just get a different actress with less recognizeable lips? I really can't understand why so many people are clinging to the idea of Jolie playing Catwoman.
