It’s weird to realize that your company is playing propaganda over the radio. The Walmart radio channel has a call in show where customers and employees say how much they love their store or crew.

I’m pretty sure that obedience and the profit margin are my messiahs.

So, I have a quandary. I finally found an affordable apartment that I like and was even going to sign the agreement tomorrow. The problem is that my work situation may be in trouble. My ADD wrecks havoc with my quality of work and yesterday the boss said she was done with verbal warnings. Next time it’s a write up.

Try as well as I can, I know screw ups will still happen. It’s happened in every job I’ve had. But I can’t live with my dad or brother forever.

I know you can't stay with your brother or father forever, but you should at least save up 3-4 months of money prior to making a commitment to any place to live. Especially since you may be on thin ice where you are now.

Then you could hold be okay in case your job doesn't work out however, have you spoke to your therapist/psychologist to help you with your ADD?

can you talk to your boss about your issues and express that you are trying and will continue to work on it.

if it's like most places, one write up is not the end of the world, it's like a memo for record in your folder. too many of those can be detrimental though

Yeah, we had that talk last month after she said I'd been doing a "half ***ed job." I explained myself and said it wasn't an excuse for bad work but it was a factor. In fact, she reminded me that I had said that a few days ago. I've had this problem for a long time, we've been bothering each other for a while. I've heard that she's been talking behind my back to other coworkers and managers. That doesn't really matter, but it doesn't inspire trust.

Walmart policy is that three coachings in six months is termination.

i wouldn't focus on what people say in that she's been talking behind your back. that's just idle gossip and unless you heard it from one of the people she specifically spoke to, i'd live as though it never happened. and in the work environment like that, it very likely hasn't happened. people are always gossiping to get attention off of themselves or just to talk. just this week, i heard i'm leaving (i'm not), and that our store director is taking an area promotion (he isn't).

getting caught up in he said/she said is just a path to unwanted stress and anxiety.

Do you feel that they work? Do you think having your psychiatrist adjust them may help?

By and large yes. I did add a new one over the summer but it was strange.

I guess what I'm asking is if your ADD is creating havoc where you are working right now, what else can be done? That's why I asked about adjusting your medication. Or do you think that there is a job out there that doesn't cause your ADD to be a hindrance?

I doubt that there are better jobs for my ADD. I've had trouble in every job I've had. I did like writing research papers in college but I don't known what job would require that. A paralegal, maybe. I would need to carefully think about going back to school.

How good is your psychiatrist addressing your ADHD other than medication? Are there ways of managing the behavior like creating systems and staying organized? Or maybe having some sort of ADHD teacher help you out?

She gives some advice and asks about how work is going. Haven't talked to her in a while. Next appointment is in February. I do look up tips and advice on dealing with ADD but the advice seems geared towards office jobs. It wouldnt really work in a fast paced, on your feet job. Taking a break to collect myself is called laziness.

I would definitely, as @ComicChick has recommended, talk to your supervisor about your issues and let her/him know you are working on getting things right. At this point, I doubt it could hurt. Generally, written warnings come after verbal ones. There might be other positions that would be more suitable for you?

It’s not laziness within reason. im not saying you’re taking excessive breaks or anything, it just seems to be the way big retail wants us to think.

I’ve got 19 years in retail and my individual store has made 3.76 million in sales this month. We have a chance to break 4 million for the month; we are that busy. Just selling groceries.

Now this doesn’t happen without people working their butts off. I am a supervisor to 7 people and I make sure they take their breaks or even encourage them to grab some fresh air. I’ve on multiple occasions when I felt the need, extended their breaks, given them longer or sometimes just told them to clock out early. The last thing I want is my team worn out, disgruntled, etc and as a result, of all the departments, I have the smallest call out rate. I’m very fortunate to have the people I do.

Unfortunately it’s not always the case in most jobs, and a suggestion I might give you is that if you’re taking a break to collect yourself, do it somewhere out of sight if you can. Not everyone knows what you’re doing, and it’s not their business, but if it looks like you’re just not doing anything, people will run with that narrative.

I've considered going to another department. I'd have to look into it, we've lost a lot of people lately. I'm not sure what the pay rate is in other departments. Supposedly the deli gets paid more than others because of the dangerous nature of the job.

Not to sound whiny or petty, but you sound very different from my boss. Just today she muttered if I had gone on break and when I asked her to repeat herself, she yelled it almost in my face. I calmly said "no," and she yelled again to go. I again calmly said "fine." Calmly in a FU way. After I got back she was much quieter.

I feel better washing dishes or taking a moment in the cooler. She does yell for me if she doesn't see me.
