Dead Space 3 - Part 1

This is the one complaint I've never been able to understand. It's not like in DS1 you were completely defenseless, armed only with your legs and however much cardio Isaac crammed into his schedule. You had guns, armor, and vending machines that ably supplied and upgraded you. You blasted away at everything that moved and sometimes things that didn't. It was an action horror game. I guess with the implementation of human enemies in DS3 there's half a case to be made here, but people were carping about this back in DS2, where your protagonist is going insane for 10+ hours in sequences that weren't always jump scares right after the other. Nonsense.

Again, I think if you look at all the stories coming out about the game like the recent ones about the franchise being cancelled and EA denying it, people are trying to say, "Oh EA executives came along and ruined the franchise. They demanded micro-transactions and more action. They demanded singular ammo to do micro-transactions."

And I mean, I think the weapon crafting was a positive step. Isaac is an engineer. So what if there isn't specific ammo anymore. I didn't ever need to buy extra parts and stuff. I just spent more time farming for resources so I didn't buy any.

But the insanity and dementia is there in this game. It's more in the Co-op missions though for the regular game, but these are some of my favorite parts of the game.

To me this is about story progression. Isaac Clarke has become more aware on how to fight and deal with necromorphs and markers. Much like Ripley was in Aliens with the xenomorphs.

EA is a polarizing company now so I think reporters were trolling for headlines.

But I mean, why can't there be human enemies? Now the Unitologists are making there presence known and becoming a more active threat. Within the confines of the story, it makes sense.

And I believe the people trying to perpetuate that the game isn't scary are really full of it. The game had me on edge constantly. By the time I was done playing I wanted like a nightlight or an assault rifle to protect myself from Necromorphs.

Out of 10 I would give it 7.0. I lost the game about two weeks ago and I don't care. This game felt like an entirely different game. It really did feel more gears of war than dead space. Loved DS1 and really liked 2 but this one was just a shooter and will be the last I purchase in the series.

I know its an opinion but no. This is nothing like Gears or any other third person shooter. It may be more of a shooter than the other 2 even though those were both big time shooters whether you like it or not. This is still much slower than your average shooter and is still based around horror or tense situations

intense? lol. First off once multiplayer was involved with the story I knew it was over. It's impossible to have any type of horror game be scary with multiplayer and guns involved its just impossible. Once that feeling of being all alone on your own feeling was gone I already knew. But you all assured me this was still the same old dead space and me being the fan I was I got suckered in. I should have just trusted my gut. What is scary about walking with guns drawn, with a partner in a bright snow storm? Like I said I got halfway thru right when Issac and Ellie boyfriend got into it and I don't care how it ends and it's sad because in another thread I said Issac was the best video game hero I knew, and for me not to care how his story ends says something. I'm just going to act like I never played the game and him and Ellie lived happily ever after after 2. I mean then the whole love triangle was like ugh. I never got that vibe from the second one. What was fun about her in 2 was they were just two people not trying to get killed instead of trying to jump each others bones

Well this one wasn't multiplayer it was 2 player co-op.

And some of the co-op missions IMHO were some of the freakiest ones in the game. I just did the last co-op mission last night and I was spooked. The second one chapter 11 is also freaking creepy.

What in the blue are you talking about? The previous games had guns and LOTS of shooting and the co op in this game wasnt forced, meaning YOU DIDNT HAVE TO PLAY IT. So how can you b***h and whine about the co op if you didnt even have to play it?

I am absolutely convinced you didnt even play DS3. You played the demo or something and just wanted to be one of those whiney fanboys that pop up far too often.

I mean the last son is entitled to his opinion, but just in my opinion, I still thought the game was tense and scary on co-op.

I mean Carver's co-op missions freaked me out like when you saw the images of his family on the walls of an elevator.

I saw the video about the dead space movie. Just make it like the first game. Horror movie first and action second. I'm not feeling it too much from the comments from the potential writers. Hopefully they don't screw this up.

The writer they brought on board does NOT inspire confidence.

It doesn't matter tho, I think a DS movie is doomed from the start. Make it just like the game and movie fans claim it's too similar to Alien/Event Horizon/The Thing. Make it too little like the game and video game fans cry that it diverges to far from the source. I think the best thing to do is not make it a film. Keep it a game series only.

I mean the first thing I thought when I played the orig was "wow, it's like they took alien, event horizon and the thing and made a game out of it". I don't need to see that in film cuz iv already seen it.

Agreed. Not bad for a fan film, just need a few pointers in building true tension, which is what the actual movie needs. As far as the design and tone go, the film had it correct.

just beat DP3. Good game. I stand by my 7/10. Definitely a better second half to first.

Playing through this game again and a big complaint for me is they do too much talking. Let's just get to some shooting.

For some reason, I was compelled to buy and play the Awakened DLC today. Is there going to be a sequel or...?

THREAD! RIIIIISE FROM YOUR GRAVE!

Haha, I think they said they plan on making a Dead Space 4... Or D4AD SPACE

Hah yea I just played the DLC the other day.

It's a franchise that EA wants to continue, how important it is right now tho, we don't know.

I'd like the next DS to be less like 3 (I didn't hate it...but... eh) and more like 1 & 2.

I'm just tired of the jumpscares since they just don't work in the series anymore. They haven't since the second one where we expected them since they put vents everywhere. Keep the make your guns thing but stop making the scares so predictable.

I don't really care what they do. I care more about the lore and characters than i do the gameplay. I thought 3 was enough like the previous 2 that it didnt really bother me.

As long as they don't turn it into an FPS and still keep the grotesque creatures, im fine.

I would like less focus on the Unitology aspect and more on the necromorphs themselves.

Thats kind of what DS is. I mean the jump scares wore off after the first few hours of Dead Space because there were SO many of them. That was the first time in a horror game where by hour 3, when a monster popped up, i just rolled my eyes. It got better in DS2 but then worse again in DS3. Not sure Visceral can do much else. Altho the return to the Ishimura sure was a fantastic level in DS2.

Well, provided that they listen to player feedback, the fourth one, if it's being made, could be a substantial improvement over the third one. Not that the third one is bad by any means. I certainly enjoyed it (probably like an 8.5/10 from me compared to a 9.5 or so for the first two). The only times I got annoyed were when I was getting swarmed and swarmed and that was more irritating than tense or fun. Of course, I never actually played it co-op, so there's that, haha. If they keep the tone and atmosphere closer to Awakened, that'd be a start. Though I didn't understand the initial reviews that were saying the game was scary. The initial hours of this game are ****ing tense. And it doesn't stop being tense. I mean, yeah, the subsequent shooting galleries of necromorphs could get annoying and brought the game down a little for me, but, as I said, I still enjoyed it.
