Dead Space 3 - Part 1

Yes, it was a big hit with critics and fans so i dont see why not

It was a bit of a bummer that you need the damage upgrades to get the plasma cutter back to its full potential but yeah, I see it coming back. It works great.

Yea i agree, altho i didnt even wanna use the PC with all the bad ass weapon configs i was coming up with. I loved that system.

I used the plasma cutter on and off through my first playthrough, ended up adding the repeater to it and made a rapid firing plasma cutter. The PC had it's uses, but considering the increased mobs in DS3, other tools of destruction were required.

I ended up with a plasma cutter/repeater as my main weapon and then an awesomely vicious device that spat out explosive plasma in waves with one tip and then fired ripper blades off at high velocity on the other. Love that thing.

It has a meta score above 75, so the reviews weren't that negative

Did you guys have a DS2 save? I ended up with the planet cracker plasma cutter off the bat so I was immediately happy with it.

Yea I did.
Project, its just weird to me that IGN gave it a 7.8 and the review IMHO sounded nothing like a 7.8.

Like they complained the 20 hr campaign is too long. I say GOOD. I think single-player campaigns have gotten way too short and have become these cheap fast little sprints. I want bigger single-player campaigns.

Not to mention a lot of that length is from optional side missions anyway.

Reviewers just like to ***** about game length because it's more work for them.

But I mean all they complained about were the optional sidequests and they LOVED the gameplay. I don't get it, how do option side-quests drag the came down a C grade? Makes no sense to me.

If you want to ***** about long, that end stage for MGS Rising took way too damn long if you ask me. Its so anti-climactic because it basically ends three different times and its so damn repetitive.

I thought the majority of optional quests were in fact kind of bad. It was just a slog to get through: enter room in a re-used level, then wait for a ton of necromorphs to pop out. Doing the armory and the supply depot back to back left me in a bad mood and once I decided to skip the rest (until a later co-op game) I was able to more readily enjoy the material that actually felt crafted rather than manufactured without interruption. It wasn't so much that they were long but it was that they were boring. The side missions distilled the game into its most basic form and then stretched that out over and over. Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing after all.

The only sidequests that were really any good in my estimation was the Greely and the very last one. The rests, Conning Tower to a lesser extent, bogged down the game in unnecessary dungeon crawling.

Eh i couldnt disagree more. I loved every side mission because it was more Dead Space for me and my co op partner. I was afraid, especially playing in co op, that we'd run through the game in 8 hours, but our time was up over 20 and it was thanks to those side missions.

Yeah but does that make the game a 7.8? I don't think it does.

I think there were only 1 or 2 side missions that I thought were crappy. Otherwise, they were great, especially the co-op ones.

Well what was the score before they deducted points off for the sidequest design? You are making it sound like he was going to give it a 10/10 and then deducted all those points solely on that, but reading the review the reviewer clearly had other issues.

Personally my score for DS3 if I was going for a 10 point scale would be a 8.0/10 so I don't think a 7.8 is that outrageous and that is still a good score according to their own rating. Same goes for Metacritic, just because it is not getting 8 or 9's doesn't mean critics are saying the game is ****.

I like the game, I played through it three times and the DLC twice, the expanded work bench mechanics and bouncing around the flotilla were all great bits but it was to me pretty clearly the weakest DS.

Spideyfan, 7.8 is a C grade to me, meaning an average score :p .

Just got done playing through a couple of the co-op missions. More and more do I think that a lot of the hate and criticism against this game was colored by an anti-EA bias.

1. Not as scary as the previous games. Are you ****ing kidding me? I think the people who said that didn't play through the whole game and were listening to knee-jerk reactions about the game. The Co-op missions are ****ing freaky and creepy as hell. They are very much in line with the previous games. I was honestly scared ****less playing most of the game. Necromorphs attack you when you least expect it and aren't prepared for it. They can come at you from all sides. But the co-op missions are like stuff out of Silent Hill.

2. Micro-transactions. Now honestly I'm not a fan of micro-transactions, but what game doesn't have these at this point? And another thing, I never ONCE needed micro-transactions to play or beat this game. So why are people whining about this? If you want to buy stuff, you can earn ration packs or sell items to buy new stuff. You don't have to buy resources with micro-transactions. IMHO this is a stupid thing to complain about and critique. It's just a part of the industry like paying for apps, ringtones, songs etc. It's there if you want it. No big deal.

3. Too action-adventure, gets away from roots of previous games. Also bull. I think the game mixes everything well. Also the zero-g sequences were breathtaking. They were not like anything I've ever played before. I loved doing spacewalks, it was like I was in 2001 or an Arthur Clarke story. They were creepy but amazing to do at the same time.

I think the people complaining about the game mainly wanted to stick it to EA. Now I mean, I think the game has some story problems, but in terms of EA this is IMHO one of the better AAA titles they've released as of late.

Also, drop-in drop-out co-op works great.

Yea i agree, i jumped more in this game than i did in the previous games, but i still felt DS2 had the best atmosphere overall.

Yep, the micro transaction whining is nothing more than b****y gamers wanting to open their maws and yell. It changes NOTHING about the game.

Yep, agreed, thought it was in line with past games. Floating to the derelict ship at the beginning of the game was just breathtaking. One of my favorite scenes from a game this gen.

I still need to finish the DLC. My co op partner didnt get it, so iv kinda be left to find another teammate. Might try hoping on later and hopefully ill get paired up with someone who is worth a damn.

Yeah, I completely agree with you. This game was pretty flawless, in my opinion. Story was great and the game was massive. I never thought the side quests were bad, I thought they were cool and I always did them. It added to the story and you got great goodies for completing them.

I really hope they make another Dead Space. This is definitely one of my favorite series in videogames.

This is the one complaint I've never been able to understand. It's not like in DS1 you were completely defenseless, armed only with your legs and however much cardio Isaac crammed into his schedule. You had guns, armor, and vending machines that ably supplied and upgraded you. You blasted away at everything that moved and sometimes things that didn't. It was an action horror game. I guess with the implementation of human enemies in DS3 there's half a case to be made here, but people were carping about this back in DS2, where your protagonist is going insane for 10+ hours in sequences that weren't always jump scares right after the other. Nonsense.

So what's next for Dead Space 3? Are we getting anymore more DLC?
