It's not a given Doom will have powers. According to reports there will be Doombots he can control with a thought. Technology wise in the real world there is already tech that can be controlled with a thought. It's rudementry control right now in that can be used to control mechanical appendages.

"So it is about how really four — and in some ways five, you know, with Victor Von Doom — how five people go from being normal people in the world to being transformed into something, sort of, when it first happens, abnormal and then by the end superhuman.” - Simon Kinberg

Not sure if this one was posted, but from a slightly different interview from Kinberg:

Coupled with this:

So you're not calling them the Fantastic Four within the film, yet you won't mention mutants because that would make the foursome less 'fantastic'.

Seriously... what is the point of Fox making a Fantastic Four movie?

Dear God!..... This is definitely Catwoman level bad.

Now would be a good time to start that said Free the Mutants/Occupy Baxter Building campaign. The Fox side show must not continue

That still doesnt mean he will have superpowers. What I take from that is the Doom we meet in the beginning by the end will be transformed. Kate Mara was just in movie called trancendence about the line between man and machine becoming unrecognizable. Which is right up Dooms alley character wise.

So you're suggesting they implement ideas from that flop that couldn't keep up with a movie on its third week or that second week bird movie. Brilliant!

How is that different from any of the other decisions they're implementing for this movie? At least it will be in the spirit of everything else.

It's quite possible it will be better than Kinberg makes it sound, but Kinberg's comments make it sound an awful lot like Ultimate Fantastic Four Doom.

Combined with the cast and other comments we've heard, it sounds like they're going heavy UFF. I had hoped that there was at least a chance that we'd get real Doom, but I think that hope is dwindling fast.

It's one thing when moron executives make bad decisions. That's pretty much every creative project with studio involvement ever. When fans start suggesting implementing ideas from failed movies (that are very much not related to the property in question, no less) you begin to lose your faith in humanity that much more.

It's rather disheartening.

Maybe in this version, Reed takes his pet goat on a trip to the negative zone. The goat, named Doom, develops intelligence and delusions of grandeur and becomes Reed's mortal enemy.

Will Ashley Tisdale play the goat? :cwink:

Ultimate Doom isn't a real Doom? what's the major difference; keeping in mind that the hooves were cosmetic and not even present in many of his appearances? didn't this Doom consistently outsmart the FF? didn't he nobly wade into the Zombie-verse and survive?

The Golden Oldie is a real version of Aunt May. If Marvel ever gets the FF & Spidey rights back they probably shouldn't use that alternate universe as inspiration to make Aunt May a Herald of Galactus in a future Avengers movie.

being named the Fantastic Four isn't what makes them special.

Neither is being fantastic, or there being four of them. :o Even their powers, personalities or names aren't what make them special or are inherent to their characters. :o

I suppose if there were five of them, they gained their powers in lab (or maybe didn't have powers at all), and were named Jim James (the not-too-clever leader of the group who can run athletically fast), Tracy Tempest (a window cleaner and aspiring gymnast who hates children), Tom Tempest (a disabled guy in a wheelchair who knows a bit about electronics), Mike Sombre (an ex military dude with parkour training) and Billy G Gruff (a juggler and stage magician), you'd still think this is essentially the Fantastic Four.

I seriously can not wait to see Brother Jordan kick ass next year
And especially on Halloween when all the young black children fill up the party store for their brand new Torch costumes!

Change has come! Flame On!

 What? a) this is not the first black superhero on film and b) I'm fairly sure all the young black children probably want to do the same thing the other children want to do when this movie comes out: go to the new Pixar movie.

I never said he was the first. But now that I think of it he is the coolest black super hero and he will grow into A List from this film. We've watched this young man grow as Wallace on The Wire to his outstanding performance on Fruitvale Station. He is gonna to turn Human Torch (C-List Hero with the FF they even used that joke about him in the comics) into a even bigger more popular Hero. And during Halloween the young boys dont have a hero to dress up as thats not a side kick.

It's very painful thing even Korath from GoTG only did the movie because his own son said something similar to him. "I want to have Light Skin. Ironman has lightskin"

Thats the most painful thing to hear coming from a child

Okay, I know you're being less than serious and all, but I'm pretty sure this film would actually have to do well for it to make MBJ's take on the Torch as iconic as you think it will. Opening on the same day as a sure hit and sandwiched between two almost definitely hits is not the key to box office success.

Oh, and the Human Torch is hardly C-List. Dude's traditionally been the most popular character in the FF, to the point that his film rights were once sold separate from the rest.

Hopefully "all the young black children" will be happy with Falcon and Iron Patriot Halloween costumes. Marvel controls tie-in merchandise for all of their licensed properties, and they haven't allowed movie costumes for the properties FOX presently control since the Disney buy-out.

No thats ********. Secondary sidekicks knowone would be happy with that

I can see the argument for C-List, but it depends on how you define the tiers.

For me the A-List is your icons that everyone and their grandmothers know about. This would be Superman, Spider-Man, Batman, Wolverine, and recently added a fifth member in Iron Man.

The B-List would be the other popular well-known heroes that are a step below the Big Five. Your Caps, Thors, Wonder Womans, Hulks, and the like.

The Fantastic Four has traditionally been in that group, but their name value has taken such a hit in recent years that maybe they have slid down to the C-List.

Also, I would say that The Thing has traditionally been the most popular member of the Fantastic Four. He even had his own solo Hanna-Barbara cartoon.

Using those characters as a template, The Human Torch is a sidekick too since Mr. Fantastic is the unquestioned leader of the FF.

In Civil War #1 by Millar he wrote Johnny making a joke about The New Warriors being C-Lister's tops... and then he was reminded that without the FF he'd be one too.

Johnny never was that great outside the group thats my point is all. I dont just pull stuff out my ass. I know I have a rep or something as being a MCU basher but I'll try to defend any Marvel property from criticism. I like MARVEL regardless of the distributor.

Remember Milestone Comics? I remember a funny story about that. A young black kid walks into a comic store and the store owner points him to the Milestone Comics, Icon, Static, and all the rest. The black kid responds "@#$% that! Where's my Spider-Man?!?" Being the same skin color as you doesn't make a character automatically more appealing, as was the case with the Milestone characters for that kid. And plenty of black Fantastic Four fans would rather see the Fantastic Four they know and love rather than a cheap knockoff in a pathetic attempt to pander. Nevermind that, if you weren't already interested in seeing a Fantastic Four movie, then I doubt a black Human Torch will suddenly make that franchise more appealing to you, so it probably won't bring any box office benefit. It will, however, piss off a segment of the fan population who want to see their beloved characters on screen, not bastardized versions of them.

Would it be nice if there were more superhero movies with minority characters? Sure, but how about promoting characters who're already minorities instead of pissing off a segment of the fans right from the bat by messing with long standing and popular characters? War Machine, Falcon, Black Panther, Bishop, Prowler, Luke Cage, Blade, Rage, Night Thrasher, Cardiac, Blue Marvel, etc. How about promoting those characters? That's something which every fan would be glad to see.
